Maybe I'm just old, but one thing I've never really understood is how you can be bullied online.

I mean, at school yeah. You have to be there.

But online, ignoring people is just a click away. Just... don't read that shit. Problem solved.

You're not THAT old. Just because you're ingnoring someone doesn't mean everyone else is and they'll thake that online bullshit into the real world pretty fucking fast.

Part of me agrees, but social media has become so ingrained in kids lives that its impossible for them to click away.

Look at me talking about kids like I'm an old man.

    I'm 25.

I'M NOT OLD. I'M DOWN WITH THE COOL KIDS. I KNOW ABOUT 1 DIRECTION

Okay well what we can do is take an embarrassing picture of you plaster it everywhere so nobody in your life hasn't seen it and call you a skank or whatever to anyone who will listen.

Ignoring doesn't quit work in that scenario.

Well, in the case of an embarrassing picture I can see what you're talkin' about, but how often is that the case?

I'm reminded of that story from a while back where that dude's college dorm mate secretly video taped him having sex with another man and then put it online and the guy killed himself. That was some straight up heinous shit, but it seems like something that'd be pretty rare.

I think 90% of the reason bullies bully is to get a rise out of the victim. If the victim is oblivious it kinda takes the thrill out of it.

Often enough, but this story alone shows that once is one times too many

A lot of the online bullying going on takes place with people the victim knows personally. It could be a kid whose classmates are connected by facebook, and they use that as a means of launching somewhat-anonymously insults, or talking behind someone's back, or dredging up personal information and makint it public.

Sometimes it's not even an embarrassing photo or video. Sometimes it's something as simple as taking someone's picture, even one they like, and turning it against them online with anything from a meme generator to a fake profile or some horrible rumours with names attached. Cyber-bullying is all about taking a person's trust in their own ability and judgement to post things publicly and exploiting it in any fashion necessary.

To paraphrase Gabe, "I will burn down everything I have to ensure a bully doesn't go without punishment."

I find the act of bullying in any way so utterly reprehensible that I will go out of my way to see it punished. This could stem from being bullied a bunch as a kid and that's fine. There was a girl we caught wind of at work who was being bullied at school because "girls can't like star wars!". Seriously. This is the shit that is out there.

What did we do? Hooked her up with so much Star Wars swag she didn't know what to do with it all. Why? Cause fuck that noise. Be who you want to be, kid.

Apparently when it was initially investigated by authorities, they couldn't accurately track him down but now it's gotten to the point where anonymous is claiming they've found him. I'm not holding my breath until it's been confirmed and made official though.

It's funny when I think about what it was that made it so difficult to deal with teasing and shit back in the early days.

Sure, I've always been sensitive, but that hasn't been as much of a problem as an adult. I know I've grown up, but I can still get pissed pretty easily with enough pressure put on me.

I think, really, things just got better as I got older mostly because fewer and fewer of my peers were fucking idiots trying to stir up shit.

I still think the whole idea of "Just ignore them" is, to an extent, a load of garbage, because most of the people who say that are at a point in their life where people their own age don't act like that anymore. I am terrible at ignoring things, I admit, and I did have to develop a thicker skin, but eventually I mostly lost the need for it.

If there was some guy wherever you worked who was constantly poking his head into your space and going "Hey, FAGGOT, I BET YOU LIKE TO SUCK DICKS" you would find that very difficult to ignore for long.

The difference being that, in school, the people in charge don't do shit about it if you complain.

I was bullied in the fourth grade.

It was typical shit; being called a fag, being called queer, getting shoved around. I liked reading more than I liked monkey bars, so sitting around discussing Watership Down made me a pretty big target.

One day, in the fifth grade, our guidance counselor brought in the four most bullied students to her office, and then she brought in the four biggest bullies. I was aghast; the guidance counselor wanted us to talk about how tormented we were to our tormentors, and I seemed like the only person in the room to recognize how this wouldn't solve anything. Because sitting there, crying about how hurt we were to the kids that hurt us would only give them fuel.

I did something terrible; I was the last to speak. My contemporaries in victimhood all shared their stories about how they were pantsed and punched, how they were browbeaten and shouted down.

When it came to me, I said that the bullies had done nothing. That I always interpreted what they were doing as fun and games. The look on my side of the table was one of incredulous derision, and the look on the other side of the table was one incredulous appreciation.

I got invited to hang out with the bullies after that. They offered an olive branch, and I accepted. My other fellows felt betrayed, and with good reason. I ditched them.

In the fifth grade, I rose to a modicum of popularity, standing outside, talking about South Park. I was still the biggest loser in the popular crowd, and I saw the way they'd forumlate new ways to fuck with those they considered beneath them.

And one day, I just said, "Wouldn't it be better to not do that? What's the point? I mean, really, what have they done."

For whatever reason, that worked. We spent the rest of the year playing mafia on the fifth grade equipment. I was still on the lowest rung of the high social ladder, by my old friends were never messed with again. When one of them started dating a 'weird' girl in middle school, one of the guys I was hanging with started talking shit about them. Thinking about slipping a note into his locker. It was bad enough that the two of them endured whispers every day.

I said to my friend, "Why? Because he likes someone? The fuck is wrong with you."

I did what I could to mitigate actual bullying from where I was, and in high school, my acerbic wit came to good use; I was actually popular-popular, as much as one could be as a theater geek, and whenever I saw someone picked on, I'd step in and give verbal dressing-downs. It not only worked to diffuse situations, but it brought some people together. Met one of my best friends that way.

So, this signifies nothing other than I was a remorseful turncoat, but I like to think that I helped in my own, weird, not really helpful way.

"A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."

Actually no I haven't seen that picture.

Though bullying someone because they're "ugly" is also fucking terrible. And someone should care if it drove a child to kill themselves.

My comment was in regards to her MOVING away to get rid of the bullying. And the bullying spending the time to work out where she went to continue the bullying.

    I mean, that requires effort.

I'm just at a loss to see the reasoning behind putting in that effort.

There are so many fucking assholes on the internet who think they`re pretending to play the devil`s advocate by saying "To be fair, she started it"

    Fuck you.

I did many thing that I got made fun of. You know how long those incidents were made fun of?

One, two weeks, a month at best. Kids and teens have very short attention spans. Now, everyso often, the old shame would pop up but it'd be quickly forgotten again "Hey, remember the time Muzzmuzz's hand-me-down jeans ripped in the crotch area? It was hilarious"

This was a deliberate attempt by the perpetrator to keep the incident fresh in the limelight by sending the pic to everyone in school. Not just one school, two, then three schools.

There is a an sociopath (albeit one of many) who went out of his way to purposely torment a teenage girl repeatedly. The schoolkids took it and ran with it. And what did she do, she and her parents did what they could to mitigate the situation, to no avail. And people have the audacity to keep pointing out that it was her fault, in some way, somehow. Hell, there are people saying she was 'selfish' for killing herself.

    Fuck you all.

*"Fuck you all" refers to the douchebags who keep blaming her for flashing, and not the fine posters on this board.
