Hey all. Questions on buying stuff from the gem store.

    1. If I buy something like the aviator sunglasses, do I have to buy one per character, or do I get one for all my characters? (And will new ones I make get them too?)

    2. The armor skins. I'm confused if it means I have to buy one to transmute just one piece of armor for the looks. Is it that way, or one purchase will let me transmute my entire armor set?

    Thanks!

    1. You need to buy one per character.

    2. Each piece is separate; if you transmute you helm (for example) it will not change your shoulders, chest, gloves, pants or boots.

After all the portal talk last thread, I figured I'd do some more testing on the range, mostly using Ride the Lightning as my ballpark range indicator. This led to two results. The first was that the 4,000 range number I've seen thrown around for portal seems pretty close (if not dead on). The second was the rather unrelated revelation that my max targeting range seemed to be somewhere around 3,000 range. I suppose I should do some tests to see how elevation factors in, but that's a bit more involved (and means longer runs back to the starting point).

For a more visual indicator, here's a map image of Portal's maximum range, with the waypoint and character marker being the endpoints.

ug, I'd hoped it was farther. But it could still work. Might be easiest to just learn the spots on a certain route (say, supply camp to gate) that each portal can reach. So if portal can reach point A to point B, just learn where point B is and have mesmer 2 go there while the golem(s) are being built.

If you were on tonight, the thing we did with the catapults on hills - I think that could work if we just were a little sharper with it. It's worth trying again IMO.

Nah, I didn't partake of the wubwub fun tonight. 'The thing we did with the catapults' certainly sounds intriguing, though!

But yeah, as long as you've got the points set up in advance, a multiple-portal point-to-point 'road' is certainly possible, to extend the range. It is just that coordinating such a thing on the fly would be very hard, as time has to be taken to work out the locations (and to either show all the mesmers involved where they are, or find a way to describe the spot), and you need to send folks out far enough ahead of time for all of them to get into position. And the longer the roads, the more mesmers and positioning setup time you need.

On another note, in regards to handy portal spots, you can place a portal behind the supply depot in Sunnyhill / Longview / Woodhaven tower, jump down that cliffside (it's tricky, easy to splat yourself), restock on supply at the supply camp, run back towards the cliff, and then portal back up. Shaves quite a bit of time off the supply run, and allows you to somewhat safely restock on supply for repairs and siege equipment even while that tower is under siege, so long as your faction owns the camp. I say somewhat safely, because you're falling to near-death right next to the path that zerg stranglers and johnny-come-latelies will be taking to get to the tower (unless they have the garrison, anyway), and that's no always a great position in which to put yourself.

Oh man, I just had a trio of three of the most awesome missions in Guild Wars history.
Sinking an undead battleship with Ascalon ghostfire, wearing a Golem powersuit powerful enough to obliterate an army, and using a freaking Cauldron of Searing on Zhaitan's army.

I'm sort of sad you can't replay personal story missions, because damn those were cool.

Sylvari sniper unit that helps with the Vigil tank line. Leads to a pretty huge  for sylvari players that chose the "Act with wisdom, but act" character creation choice.

    No more problem.

My Engineer has developed a fondness for lovely apples, however.

I might be a weird one, but after playing a Norn for a while I felt genuinely sad that Dragon devoured Owl. But I'm wondering what happened to Wolverine and, uh, the other spirit which escapes me? Are they just in limbo or did they not quite rate lodges of their own?

Might be that the lodges too them were further north, in the area taken over by Jormag. There is a set of shrines to the lost spirits in one spot. Owl's is much bigger, though.

Wuvwuv was fun last night. The only real hitch was that we ran into the portal too early, while it was still resetting, and about 7-8 of us wound up getting stuck outside the FA borderlands post flip and had to sit through a 3 hour queue :p

I have no idea how you all are getting so many badges. I pick up all the bags I see and tag people quite easily with the staff in big zerg fights ( I get exp for tons and tons of people) but I hardly ever wind up getting the loot from them, somehow.

You can think of it almost like different 'chapters' of the same guild. It's possible to be in the guild, but be on a different server. BUT they don't get access to everything that has been unlocked or the influence from the rest of the guild, however they do accumulate influence for their own 'chapter'.

Is guild chat shared across all 'chapters'?

Yes, guild membership and guild chat is global. So is the trading post, in-game mail, whispers, parties and competitive PvP.

Invites also work cross-server. If you are invited to the guild, you will be effectively in a separate "chapter" based on server. The "chapters" aren't created, that is just the closest analogy for thinking about how the guild system works across multiple servers.

So what's generally the cheapest/easiest way to get level 80 exotics? I think there's crafting, dungeons, WvW, and karma?

I heard Berserker's as a set is generally most expensive crafted, so maybe that's a prime candidate for being obtained via other methods?

You can get them with badges, dungeon tokens, and karma if you're really scrapped for revenue.

Being that gold is actually turning out to be the rate limiting step in legendaries (not karma), that's probably the preferred method nowadays, which explains why there's not much trading post profitability these days

And then there's also Soldier's (Power/Vitality/Toughness), which can't be crafted at all

Ectoplasm is cheap enough at this point that it might be worth crafting exotics for everything else

I would disagree with that. A lot. I have just a shade over 300 kills with just a bit under 100 badges. I did the jumping puzzles in wuvwuv during pre-release, but haven't hit them at all since. I'd estimate one badge for every three kills, and in a large fight they add up super fast.

The game reserves names for, I believe, twenty four hours after deleting a character. So it is possible someone deleted a placeholder alt and are going to re-creating it. Give it a day and see if it still comes up as reserved.

So I got about 1/6 of the way to crafting Infinite Light and decided that I just didn't want to put myself through the grind to get the lodestones since I was already starting to burn out chasing those pixels.

Long story short I liquidated all of my orichalcum sword blades (I had 150) for 35 G and my lodestones for another 25 G, went from having 0 disposable income to full exotics for everything, even my "i want to change up how I play so I'm going to play with completely different stats" armour is now exotic.

Honestly never been happier with a decision I've made in a video game. Completely reinvigorated me.

Oh haha... I guess he didn't put it in this thread or anything.

I actually transferred down a tier for a few days for WvW. The matchup against TC is just boring. I don't care about the score, I care about the battles... and they outnumber at least 5:1 in most all fights, with 3 orbs. So its boring as hell, I'll pick one person off and 10 more show up after I kill them.

Last night though, I spent about 3 hours on maguuma. Fucking glorious fun. I picked them because they are in second place, the orbs seem to stay spread out and arent stuck on one server for long in their tier. The individual fights have had rather even numbers as well.

Another thing that has really caught me off guard is the friendly people on Maguuma. Constantly I've recieved whispers from people thanking me for bailing them out in a fight, or people will ask for me to tag along. I've never seen this on FA, so its weird. They also constantly have people saying in chat, "starting group to do OBJECTIVE, x up in chat" and then you see a bunch of "x" in chat from people. Do people even party with randoms in our FA wvw zones? I dunno... or I just haven't seen it.

From my viewpoint, WvW is the endgame for me. If I'm not having fun while they STILL have free transfers, I'm going to use the transfers to have fun. NOT TO WIN... thats retarded, since stream rolling is just as terrible as being steamrolled. But ya, friday night was a blast... rest of the weekend on FA was just, wtf zerg. I'd never transfer upward in tiers though, seems lower is where the real fun is at and people aren't going apeshit to have night cappers carry them to higher tiers.
