I was going with the whole everytime there's a change in the past it makes a different future timeline and we're just seeing one of them (the one with the story they want to tell) so in my head each cut would mean there was a different version of seth that lived his life missing x amount of body parts.
Also thought when they first mentioned the rainmaker that it was someone who figured out how to go back and forth in time, that's why he could work on his own to take over the syndicates. Was picturing a scene with basically one of the big mobsters being heavily guarded then "poof" he just disapears because the rainmaker went back in time and killed him when he was a little kid or something.
The real story in the movie was great though, and that whole money laundering theory earlier in the thread is great too

i was a bit disturbed by how they made jospeh gordon levit look like bruce willis, but the awesomeness of the movie made the weirdness moot. though i do think its funny that based on how much screen time JGL got compaired to bruce willis, why they didnt just make bruce willis look like JGL

You could say that Chronicle is a western, live-action, found footage version of Akira I guess
they don't explore exactly the same themes and Akira is better, to my mind (the film is superior, the manga is even more so)
but there are similarities
and I agree Chronicle was a great movie. Max Landis seems to be a bit of an idiot but he writes a good screenplay.
