They really like the idea of cheerleaders as heroes for some reason.

Hurray for appealing to mainstream stereotypes of attractiveness.

Yeah, let's have programs full of fat ugly chicks instead.

I thought the illusionist chick was awesome hot, actually, rather than the illegal cheerleader.

Although, if you were paying attention, the illusionist chick was actually really fat.

Yes, but the illusion of her hot self was not stereotypically cheerleader hot.

I always wondered why she didnt revert back to being fat when she died.

Maybe all that stuff she said about being fat or ugly was just her messing with us? Cause that's what she does? I dunno, I'm just throwin' stuff out here.

They actually showed her 'real' self in the comic.

Wait, what comic was that? I thought I read all of them, unless they continued after the season finale.

They did. I think it's on issue like 35 by now. I think the illusionist arc was 29-34 or something.

Turns out she was a fat goth.

I am a fan of George Takei, so I hope that his part continues to grow in importance.
He gave many hints about the new season on the Stern Show.
Other than his hint that he will *glow*, is there any more information about his powers?

I prefer to take the approach that the show can be a self-contained continuity. Therefore in my book she just had really low self-esteem, the fact that she still has the same appearance when she got smacked out proves it.

If you take the comics into account, sure it gets murky, but my way is more fun. And hotter.

I dunno, I like the comics-- they really add to and explain (terrible near-plothole) things on the show, like how Sylar nearly broke free of the cell, but then was shown still stuck in there in the next episode. I wish they made each chapter chunk longer, though.

And... Candice was a fat goth. She could've lost the weight along the way, but still had relatively poor self-confidence and was lapsing into her poor eating habits. Or, she's forced that illusion on herself for so long that it stays even when she's unconscious.

I like to think that even if she had been a fat goth, she just had bad self esteem and her powers use a lot of energy, leading to her being awesome hot over the time since the comic.

Just don't read the comic. Problem solved.

But baseball can't be on every channel. I mean they split BSG in half, and I'm sure the Sci-Fi Channel doesn't show baseball.
    Spaceball!

    ...

Actually, I think I'd watch that. Just an hour of CGI enhanced futuristic ball-throwing with sportscasters commenting.

No plot or anything. Just sports. In space.

Oh, also in regards to why they split shows. It generally takes 8-9 days to produce an episode. When you have a weekly broadcast schedule, you run into an issue.

They could always just wait until they can air the show continuously, but the way the ratings/seasons work, etc it doesn't happen.

I would pay money for someone to turn one of the sports from a decent Sci-fi series into a professional sport

Not a huge spoiler, but still pretty cool that it's confirmed. I really liked their style and the feel that they had.

    Artist Offers Heroes Spoilers?

Tim Sale, who creates the art pieces for fictional painter Isaac Mendez on NBC's Heroes, told SCI FI Wire that Isaac is dead on the show, but that Sale will continue to produce pieces—possibly on behalf of a character who appeared to have died. "If only there had been someone else in season one that did some art work," Sale hinted in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Calif. "Somebody who absorbs powers, maybe."

On Heroes, Isaac, played by Santiago Cabrera, had the ability to paint the future, but he was killed at the end of the first season by the villain known as Sylar (Zachary Quinto). Although Sylar absorbed Isaac's power, he is not the only character with that ability.

"Actually there were two people," Sale said. "There was the bad guy who had a very different style, and we didn't see much of the other's art work. But all I know is they tell me I have a job."

The "other" could be Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia), who was last seen about to explode in mid-air at the end of the season finale. Sale's continued involvement with the show could be an indication that Peter survives. Sale wouldn't confirm whether that's the case, but did reveal that he has already created some paintings and pencil drawings featuring new characters from season two.

"I want to know as little as I need to know, because I like to watch the show when it comes out," he said. "And most of the time it's very, very easy, because I work mostly with the prop department. And I asked not to be sent the scripts, but even when I was getting the scripts, I don't read them." Heroes returns for its second season on Sept. 24 and will air in the same timeslot, Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

    After reading this:
The episode will also introduce Kane, a recurring character that may become a possible regular. This man in his late 20s is referred, in the info we were given, as an ageless American with an European feel. He is said to be a charming womanizer who as a soul that seems to be older than he appears to be.

    Did anyone else think of:

Don't know why that came into my head.

Kane. As in Cain and Abel. The brother who was forever cursed to walk the face of the earth, marked by God for his sins.

That's generally where the ageless Kaine/Kain/Kane/Caine/Cane/etc character (from a literary point of view) has its origins.

We knew Peter was going to survive anyway, I'm still not sure Nathan will. It seemed he was looking to sacrifice himself in the finale, so it'd be odd if he were still alive. Candice acting as Nathan I think's a possibility, though - Angela Petrelli seems the sort to do stuff like that

Also, kind of spoilers (casting stuff I heard everyone's heard about before probably)
They did say some main cast were going, not necessarily dying. Sounds like Matt and DL might be gone, but I'd heard Matt had filmed some stuff already. It's hard to figure out who's coming back permanently and who's temporary, sounds like they're writing out at least a couple of main cast members and bringing in at least a couple, Sylar and possibly Ando (heard that somewhere)

I never really thought the comics were really *Heroes* comics, just comics using the same setting and character - they don't add much to the story, they lack the interest, style and drama of the series. It'd be much better if they let them be more than a few pages long and tried to write them like Heroes. The whole Wireless thing (introducing a character in the comics, using her twice in the series then killing her off in the comics) was bizarre, don't know what they were thinking with that one. Especially for people not reading the comics, some woman appearing then vanishing and used purely to advance the plot.

...she was integrated with the WWW in the end and was able to talk to Micah, so i'd imagine she'll turn up in series 2 at some point again.

And as far as killing off characters goes, i'm hoping Nikki/Jessica goes (worst character ever). Which kinda makes sense if Wireless was still around to help Micah.

I always thought that Peter would use Claires healing powers to counteract the exploding powers.

The flying away and exploding in the air bit was pretty predictable from the moment we found out Peter could absorb people's powers.

I think it's just how the descriptions were written, and that generally you can't write a very good summary when you want to only hint at superpowers. Imagine first season introduction spiels: "Claire Bennet is a high school cheerleader who desperately wants to fit in, but has an amazing power that makes her different from everyone else. And what's the secret to New York nurse Peter's abilities...?" D: Ugh.

Not to sound snide, but since you can ready watch them on the internets, why don't you? Even from NBC, there is only about 6 30 second commercials in each episode.

    But anyways, the ending was:
Peter goes haywire from absorbing too many abilities and is about to go nuclear. Nathan shows up, flies him away from the show down with Sylar, and there goes nuclear in the sky. And Sylar, though left for dead, crawls down a manhole to escape into the sewers. Also in the battle, Hiro transports himself back into the middle of a battlefield in 1600s Japan.

Personally I can't wait to see Uluru expanded on more... I think it was his image that Sylar drew in blood before entering the sewer. And I don't think he did it of his own accord, I want to believe something dragged him in... perhaps the very image he was painting.

I doubt she'll turn up as anything more than a plot device, though. Like last time. Really, what the hell was that about? She could've been an interesting character, they could've just let her vanish in case they wanted to use her

    About Niki:
I heard she was coming back, and saw an interview with her where she seemed more enthusiastic than she would've been if she weren't coming back. Shame

I heard on the radio this morning (Ralph's Showbiz Beat on KROQ in Los Angeles) that Hayden Panettiere is 18 today -- illegal no longer. Apparently she was on Letterman last night, and is looking forward to buying cigarettes, porn, and registering to vote.

    Internet nerds rejoice!

And regarding weird hiatuses in American TV programming, because broadcast television is based on ad-revenue, everything is geared toward the biggest spending time of the year: Fall/Winter and the Christmas shopping season. Networks have and will do some funky stuff in order to be able to have high ratings during Sweeps week, when their rates are set, as well as dominant numbers during Christmas time so that they will have all the eyeballs on their advertisers. Everything regarding scheduling has been geared toward that.

With cable, satellite, 300+ channel availability, and so many other entertainment options, this paradigm seems to be changing, but nobody is really quite sure to what yet. Thus endeth your media lecture for the day.
