Also: just don't attack crashed UFOs. Problem solved!

My colonel sniper being injured before a mission turned out to be a good thing in the end, as it convinced me to use my squaddie sniper who has earned his place among my team. His battle scanner proved invaluable in the landed ufo mission I'm doing because there were 2 Beserkers and a Muton hugging the cliff face directly below me that I didn't have LoS to.
Although the grenade appearing out of thin air should have been my first clue.

but I'm willing to give them a shot
maybe after I raise my monthly funding
Hover Plasma SHIVs with Improved Flight are great, like, really good. and any SHIV with Suppression is better than a rookie by a wide margin.
Yeah. Only get the later SHIV that can use plasma. You either want the one that can fly or the one you can use as portable cover, both have their uses.
It's extremely useful to have one in the endgame because A: you can use it to scout and draw fire and B: Immune to Mind Control.

There was a sniping position that ran almost the full length of the large UFO (with squadsight)

You guys use colors and shit to differentiate between classes?
Pshaw!
I use armor subtypes.
I use the secondary carapace armor for my Heavies. Because, for some reason, that armor model will stay if you switch armors.
I use the basic whatever for snipers.
For assaults, I use the secondary skeleton armor.
Medics, it varies.

Hover gets mad accuracy and has the highest def of anything in XCOM. It is also lightning quick like whoah.
The portable cover isn't as good because it's literally a grenade magnet for Mutons/Elite Mutons/Heavy Floaters/Sectoid Commanders and anything you have taking cover behind them will die.
Supports go in white, with type 2 armors
Sniper are in black, type 1
Heavies are green, and go with type 1 because they rock it
Assaults are in red, and their armor types depend on their primary (type 1 for rifle, 2 for shotty)
Psionic troops get the same colors, but with yellow highlights
Rookies are defaults

I was so close to capturing a sectoid commander, there were two of them on low health but I had to pick between eliminating them or risking mind control, ah well.

What's a good will level for Psi testing? All of my Colonels have at most 70, the bonus will from promotions upgrade is something I've had to sacrifice.
Yeah. On my last game I built some SHIVs to cover shifts and took one of my main squad out at a time and tossed two rooks in along with them. It worked pretty well!

In classic, you want to do base assault by the end of the 2nd month, 3rd month if you can afford losing one or two countries in exchange for really good tech.
Never stop building sats. Always have sats on lock. You can build sats even if you are full capacity.
Once you get all your sats up, UFOs should stop abducting your peeps.

On my classic run where I finally managed to do well in the meta game I did it by immediately blitzing for 4 satellites and an uplink. It meant postponing getting better gear and choosing money missions at the start, so it definitely makes the first couple months but you end up with so much more money/countries later

My Alien base team:
Squaddie Winston Smith is mostly coming along for the experience, as I'm needing to train up a second sniper and I suspect the Alien Base to have a number of tight corners and limited corridors that will favour Heavies and Assaults over Snipers.

You have to have the cutomisable soldier pack, which you got if you pre-ordered the game. If you didn't pre-order you can buy it for a few quid in the steam store.

That's neat.
Maybe not good enough for ironman.
I really need to figure out base management crap I think, I feel that is my main problem right now.
build satellites
do base assault asap
I should probably take my Support out and baby up some squaddies because triple medkits is essential for me.
Wow is it really that small?
That makes it pretty fucked then that 5 out of 6 of my team ended up being psionics.

Reaaaaly now? Maybe I should schedule the B-Team for a bit of "R&R".
