How can you even accept the death penalty if just ONE innocent man or woman is sentenced to death by mistake? And we all know it happens.

And regarding the costs: Death penalty is expensive.

"On direct appeal, the cost of appellate defense averages $100,000 more in death penalty cases, than in non-death penalty murder cases."

    taken from http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.php?did=108&scid=7

    or

"Elimination of the death penalty would result in a net savings to the state of at least several tens of millions of dollars annually, and a net savings to local governments in the millions to tens of millions of dollars on a statewide basis."

-- Joint Legislative Budget Committee of the California Legislature, Sept. 9, 1999

I think we are talking about something a little different than regular old capital punishment.

they should just execute anyone who commits a felony

with a bullet. So it's not expensive.

Huh? I'm not talking about capital punishment in America. I'm talking about this specific case. I already know that the American court system is messed up.

    "deserving" is pretty arbitrary

whoever has the power of execution makes that decision

Saddam killed 300,000 over 24 years, while American occupation killed 600,000 in 3.

Saying Saddam is more deserving of execution than an American leader is kind of pointless

I've got the feeling that the death toll in Iraq being 600,000 has been made by insane hippies with little scientific backing.

    600,000? that's a fuck lot of bombing.

Congratulations American Airforce, you are the single most awesome thing in the world.

then again, deaths in iraq are probably blamed on the US for the most far fetched things.

like that one kid who hung himself, and they said it was parent neglect. some guy in iraq probably slipped in the shower because some terrorist was blowing up a bomb.

IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE WAR!

Well unless I'm mistaken, costs in America were largely due to how the American court system is run. The Iraqi courts are more than likely run differently.

First off, Im not even convinced that Iraq has or ever had 600,000 people.

Second, its VERY different, and you darn well know it.

I shall now invoke Godwin's Law.

How many people did Hitler kill?
How many people died in WW2?

My guess is Hitlers K:D ratio < The rest of the Wars.

The numbers weren't ignored at all by anyone. They were disputed by the media and governments of the US, Iraqis, and the Brits. That 600,000 number is complete and utter bullshit.
BRITAIN’S premier medical journal is endangering public health by publishing unfounded scare stories, 30 of the country’s leading scientists say today. Poor editorial judgment at The Lancet has fuelled panic over issues such as the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, hormone replacement therapy and genetically modified (GM) crops, the eminent medical researchers charge in a letter that the journal has refused to publish. The signatories, thirty fellows of the Royal Society, two of whom are Nobel laureates, accuse it of favouring “desperate headline-seeking” over sound science, to the detriment of public health. “Under the editorship of Richard Horton, the publication of badly conducted and poorly refereed scare stories has had devastating consequences for individual and public health, in the UK and abroad, and carried a high economic cost,” they say.

As you can see, the Lancet is criticized pretty often.
