i feel like most of my friends who do what i want to do enjoy their jobs- some of them hate corporate culture (if that's where they work), or incompetent coworkers or whatever. but they almost all enjoy high pay, rarely are asked to work insane hours (if ever), don't have to do physically trying labor, and they're often intellectually challenged by their work. and the ones who went with startups or high end firms often have very smart employees they enjoy.
i am p sure i will like my career, even if it takes me a move or two to end up somewhere with non-shitty coworkers.
That's always been the kind of job I want to, based on what I gather from my dad's career.
One where your colleagues are cool, the boss bitch-aboutable but not too bad, interesting work, good pay, and not awful hours.
...Why would someone want a job without any of these qualifications?

If there are prostitutes in Dwarf Fortress, I'd make everyone in [chat] a prostitute.
that would be the military
if you don't change the .ini setting to have a maximum number of children in the fortress then you absolutely need to make sure to only conscript males in that game. Cause the crazy dorfs will carry their babbies into battle then go psycho bughouse and start killing your people when their kids get killed.

That...actually sounds like a plan I can get behind.
I don't hate achewood, but I gotta admit I rarely understand it. There's either tons of context I'm missing having never actually sat down and read it, or it's very surreal. I suspect it's a little of both, to be honest.

During a goblin attack once one of my dorf soldiers got her arm broken and her baby went flying into the moat. I quickly drained the moat, and the baby was still alive! (always have a lever to drain your moat) The mother began the long path around through the now unlocked tunnels to access the moat to retrieve her baby.
Just before going through the last door she decided that she better get a drink first, and went to the posh dwarf bar I had set up with expensive statues and had a pint. Then she went to go take a nap and eat some food. Then she went crazy because she realized that her baby was dead because someone left it in a moat. Somehow her arm had healed during this process and she managed to effectively cut up a half dozen dwarfs on her murder spree

from what I understand it's an odd side effect of the way the game handles psychology. the dorfs are more likely to couple up when they spend time socializing with each other. And the ones in the military spend a lot more time in groups than all the others off working on their individual tasks. So they are waaaay more likely to end up reproducing and getting married.
That's the deal with army bases - they stimulate demand for low and mid commercial zones, but bring in crime and pollution. I usually accept them and build around them because tanks are cool.
I wonder what it is that makes a person predisposed to conspiracy theories
I know a few guys who literally buy any conspiracy theory they hear- 9/11, voter fraud, Obama planning government takeover, antenioplaston therapy- basically if you can frame it as some lone wolf maverck guy with THE TRUTH going against some big entity, they eat it up
I wonder why that is
or did I just answer my own question
someone give me things to read about psychology of conspiracy theorists @Ferallllllllllllll

Religion and conspiracy operate on similar if not identical vectors.

I think it's just paranoid tendencies, compulsively distrusting the most likely / accepted explanation for a given event.
What's a good way for someone to get into Dwarf Fortress? And what's a good way to make me not want to gouge out my eyeballs trying to decipher ASCII?
LazyNewbPack + a tutorial of the dorf wiki.
Alternatively, try out Towns which is much like DF but not quite as hardcore. Or if you want a rogue-y experience, try Don't Starve (You're just one dude there though).
the increasingly puzzled looks on faces have made this lecturer say that students should just give up on trying to intuit the strategic forms and just treat them as mathematical abstractions
wouldn't have needed that dodge if he hadn't fouled it up from the start

I would've really liked this if it was actually Lana Del Ray.
I'm not even particularly fond of her music, but me and Amanda Palmer's voice do not get on well at all.
Like, really, really awful IMO. I'll turn my hipster card in.

the context here is that that day it was "Fuck You Friday"

Also, I disagree with a lot of Cruz's positions but he is a remarkable speaker.

Strangely no.
Though, licking possums or hedgehogs does increase your chances of getting TB.
Edit: In case you're wondering, you have to turn the hedgehog upside down.
