    ANX 3 is hilarious.
Did the wittle phoenix give you a boo boo Scoot?

    Heh.

That's the thing that's bugging me about that Avengers assignment layout Hickman did (he was a graphic designer before he wrote comics). That's not a falcon or any kind of real-life bird that comes to mind, but it is a symbol immediately recognizable to one creature:

Honestly, I'd start spending so much money on comics if they just skipped single issues and put out a trade every six months. It's actually probably better that they don't do that.

I think we could argue some books work better like that. 2-3 60 page defender books with a small or digital print run for example might have been a better way to handle that series.

Oh who are all the guys in the last page of avengers? I only recognized a few.

    left to right:
    Smasher
    Captain Universe
    Hyperion
    Captain America
    Manifold
    Falcon
    Wolverine
    Shang-Chi
    Sunspot

    in the air:
    Spider-Woman
    Captain Marvel
    Spider-Man
    Cannonball

Hmm that's a pretty cool lineup.

Deadpool three seems to be hinting at a larger shield plot. Dr. Strange was written kind of weird like they needed to use him but he really doesn't fit in Wades world so everything seemed kind of stilted

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Sunspot. Cap, you went to the New Mutants and took Sunspot instead of X-Man?

    Damn.

It's too bad Magma and Mephisto broke up, woulda been funny to watch her pussywhip him into being an Avenger or something.

I will accept this as I didn't think about it.

Perhaps Hickman will make me like Sunspot.

Just read the Hickman article about New Avengers - http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=42504 I'm pretty sure this is why we read comics. This is going to be an awesome ride.
The scope and scale of the stories in "New Avengers" will range from the epic to the intimate. "We want the stories to have rhythm so that the book remains dynamic. The first issue is very wide and very action packed. The second issue is not at all. It's basically a bunch of dudes sitting around a room trying to figure out what happened in issue #1, until the floor drops out, and then issue #3 is probably one of the biggest things I've ever written," Hickman explained. "That's kind of the structure the book will have, moving back-and-forth between 'oh my god adventures' and then 'what does it all mean?'"

Captain Marvel #9 sure has some distinctive art going on there.

  • CrimsondudeCrimsondude Registered User regular
    That's one word for it.

  • Centipede DamascusCentipede Damascus Registered User regular
Well I don't think it's necessarily bad art.

But it's not my favorite art either.

I might like it more than Dexter Soy's art, though.

I don't know how I am going to respond to Superior Spider-Man

nobody wants to be the guy that poo poos the new ideas

but I cannot say that I am looking forward to someone else in the suit

Well I want to be excited about this but

I can't help but be all "just leave Peter Parker alone. Stop trying too hard."

it feels like a gimmick and I think that fans will respond poorly

I'm reserving judgment on Superior Spider-Man until I know what exactly is going on.

  • SolarSolar Registered User regular
Yeah I should probably do that as well

I reserve the right to not be massively enthusiastic about what we have heard so far, though

They killed off Ultimate Parker right as was at issue 15 of the trades. Didn't even bother buying the rest

Then you're missing some of the best Spider-Man. You can tell Bendis was tired of writing Peter in the current run.

Agree totes. I didn't think I'd enjoy someone so young being Spidey, but it works better then having yet another teenager/20 something.

Superior Spider-Man has me very optimistic for some reason. I haven't followed a spidey book (venom doesn't count) in over a decade (wait, when was the 90's?) but that might change.

Miles is fuckin' great and USM is still one of the best books out there

if you stopped reading you are a dummy

it just wasn't interesting to me

  • nightmarennynightmarenny Registered User regular
Yeah I don't think anyone should be called a dummy if they didn't like the Miles story.

However I can't understand seeing all the super positive reviews, and getting to the DoSM storyarc(a highlight of the entire run) and deciding not to even try the next one.

Miles is a fun character, but the book had a marked change in tone and pacing after Peter died and I won't fault a dude for dropping the book as a result.

Ultimate Spider-Man is amazing and if you don't like it because it's not Peter you're dumb. If you genuinely don't like the story, yeah okay I guess that would make sense (except it doesn't because it's still amazing and you're still dumb)

  • Garlic BreadGarlic Bread i'm a bitch i'm a bitch i'm a bitch i'm a Registered User, Disagreeable regular
    Actually I will correct that

The story isn't amazing, but the character work is. I don't think it's a fair comparison with Superior Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man, because USM is basically the world Bendis built and controls, whereas Superior is going to have inconsistencies with him appearing in other titles.

Kind of like Captain Marvel's haircut

  • SolarSolar Registered User regular
I'm not saying it's badly written

just that I read the first issue and didn't really like it

    didn't grab me or anything

    so I stopped reading

how is that in any way weird

Because it's a Bendis comic so it's pretty decompressed so you should read at least the first arc
