Yeah the thing for me is Architecture students do tend to have about half a metric ton of various papers and sketchbooks and models lying around at any one time.
So realistically I would like a small crazy sliding flipping lego house that is attached to a slightly smaller house (or ball-pit analogue) I could fill with sketches and technical drawings and pencil shavings and just kind of wade around in.
trust me that my phonecam is washing it out and not picking up the different shades of red, especially in the center medallions/guls, but they are there.
rummaging through my books, and guessing: wool 2'x3', Turkoman style, probably from Pakistan, since the Chinese-motif but very similar one had a tag with that provenance. interior design/decorating business is going the way of the dodo [ : ( ]. but marking almost everything 30% off [ : D ], so this rug cost me $18.99. plus, i was apparently clearly in love with Oriental rugs, because one of the guys said they had this huge rug that they've tried to redeem and may've thrown out, but if not, he'd contact me, "since [I'd] really appreciate it."
i will probably cave at some point and go get the other rug -- and, since i don't think i'll get paid in time to cover other wants after needs -- waste that $20 credit for Modcloth that Viv arranged, whoops!
like a zombie, the thread will not stay dead.... even if it ought. :,(
garage sale'in!
apparently i'm now collecting apothecary jars, since i found two a couple weeks ago, and now this:
shelter magazine set dressing goooooo
look at that classy as fuck server; formica and silver.
got this lovely pencil print of Paris, purchased p-in Prance.
also got some Frankoma bowls, a shoecase and a little bookshelf for above the toilet, and a mini faux-drop leaf table to set my monitor on, but they're not as photogenic. i am tired.
I need a large kitchen/dining table, and was browsing this evening and found out that eBay actuall have quite a lot I like, comparatively. Problem is, I don't know how to winnow it down!
What I would like: farmhouse style, rustic or French, non waxed top, in pale wood, non painted top but ok with painted legs (pref in white). Have up to two metres space easily, but would prefer something a bit under. This will be a working table, not a fancy sitting table. I'm not gonna chop directly onto it (well, not much probably) but I don't want to have to care too much about the finish.
Shonky photo of the kitchen to give you an idea of the color scheme I'm working with (excuse the mess I'm not moved in properly yet)
I go both ways on the legs. On the one hand I think turned legs can look too fussy and grandma ish, but then squared legs can just look cheap and unfinished. It's a fine line.
The earliest bid is ending tomorrow night so I can probably wait and see what things look like tomorrow. Hope they'll let me ship here since I'm registered with a German account ... Or I can look on Craigslist or something similar but then I probably wouldn't be able to get it delivered.
Maybe this is a better question for the design/art thread (or is there an interior design/furniture/home thread?) but is there such a thing as a papasan/bowl chair that doesn't belong in a dorm and isn't made out of wicker? Like a modern bowl/scooped chair?
I really really like sitting in them but I think they are really ugly/in need of a visual update.
Ok! So there is a interior design thread! Awesome.
Hrmm. Of those I like the concept one not in production and the modern pod the most. Although I'm not sure that one would match the comfiness of a bowl chair. And I like the cocoon chair as more of a 'high fashion' sort of thing. I don't have the money or house to support that aesthetic
The one that I found that I like the most is this one (and bonus, its a rocking chair as well!)

Rocking chairs are wonderful. I really love them.
Also keep this thread alive for a few months so I can narrate the decoration of my own place oh please oh please let me find a job and a place quickly.
I really want a hangari - the traditional pots that kimchi, doenjang and so forth are stored in - but I can't be sure I'll have the money to buy and ship one, so instead today I spent 40,000 won on a woodblock printed replica of a 17th century city gate map of Seoul.
Looks a bit like this, although it's a complete map and it's not identical:
Gonna have such a stupidly Korean apartment.
"Sandra has a good solid anti-murderer vibe. My skin felt very secure and sufficiently attached to my body when I met her. Also my organs." HAIL SATAN
yes!
I also need to keep this thread alive, I have a kitchen table being delivered this evening, and I will be slowly putting my house in order. But I'm being superstitious because don't want to do too much before I have to leave ... hopefully come february/march I'm going into decorating overdrive..
Oh man that table is really lovely! I'd like something similar for our dining room but unless we find something salvation army cheap we will probably just end up making do with a white metal table for quite some time.
Oh, cool thread.
We've just bought a flat and finished designing it, should be ready before Christmas (two weeks of working on it ahead!). I'll post photos!
Fff great thread. I really love modern design, but I have trouble implementing them myself without the overall space looking too cold or neutral, so I flip-flop back and forth between modern and contemporary because I think a little color and accessories can go a long way with giving a room personality? I've been on a reclaimed wood kick lately, and if you have the time (which I don't) building something out of reclaimed wood is hell of affordable for something that would otherwise cost like 3x as much.
Someone mentioned West Elm earlier... I really love most of their furniture...
This is a picture of our living room now. We're thinking above moving out of our small apartment and into an actual home within the next year or so, which is exciting, except the actual moving part of it, because nobody actually likes that.
I want these so much I think I'm going to have to buy them even though they won't get here before I leave for Australia
Because what if they stop selling them while I'm away???

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
Seriously I would wake up screaming every morning.
i had a dorm room about that size and i couldn't stand it
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better

Vivienne and I had to relearn. Like, it was great having a big house. But really, we didn't need it.
Satans..... hints.....

Right now I'm looking forward to being able to get a place on my own, and I want one big enough that i can have a dedicated study/workroom/art room.

What I have found:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shabby-Chic-Vintage-farmhouse-Kitchen-dining-table-/330827489149?pt=UK_Shelving&hash=item4d06dadf7d
Really like this one but probably have to pick it up, and I don't have a car. But I could rent one.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shabby-Chic-Indian-Sheesham-Dining-Kitchen-table-Painted-base-Wooden-Top-SALE-/121026962682?pt=UK_Shelving&hash=item1c2dc4e4fa
Definitely like this one but not sure of the size. But doesn't look too enormous.

LOVE this and I'm happy to sand back and refurbish it myself, but again, not sure of the size.

This one is just about perfect, but if I can find something similar for much less money then that's probably a better way to go.

And this one is totally wrong looks-wise but just seems like kind of a bargain. Also it's huge.
GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS!!!

This one can be customized so I could make sure of the length and the wood. Also, I really like the design.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-pine-dinning-room-table-/330832004229?pt=UK_Antiques_AntiqueFurniture_SM&hash=item4d071fc485

Ditto
These two are my favs, but admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of fancy turned legs and obviously went to the straight legged options
e: of the two, I like the Sheesham table best
is my fav
but $$$
is there nothing on craigslist??

And I think this one is my favorite. There's potential under the mess!

that last one is concept, but the idea of a roundish lounging chair seems to have some interest.

But again, not made of the money I suspect that chair costs considering I can't even FIND a price.
A chair that I like that is more within reach is this one, although it loses the 'bowl' aspect. But on the otherhand... rocking chair.
