I really think The Simpsons was the best when Conan O'Brien was still on staff. He wrote the episode "Marge vs. The Monorail," for instance.

The man should just start up his own cartoon.

It can be a cartoon that's mostly reruns.

instead they went for the other extreme where virtually every character in the Simpsons universe got a least one or two lines.

They were each in the movie just long enough to do their schtick, as if going down a checklist.

Anyway, Spiderpig > sum of rest of movie. And they clearly knew it.

They had more with the side characters.

    A lot more.

Apparently they have enough deleted scenes alone to make another movie.

If they're all on the DVD then consider it bought.

I was really surprised we didn't see more of that pig.

Saw this last night. I liked it and it made laugh, but I honestly wasn't expecting too much from the movie. It wasn't perfect by a longshot, and I hope there is not a Simpsons Movie #2 (but I know they'll whore it out again due to the fact this one made over $100 million easy), but it wasn't a 2-hour waste of life.

    Best throwaway lines:
Mr. Burns: Smithers... I've never believed in suicide, but... it might cheer me up to watch you do it.
Stand back! I've got a chain saw!
Homer to Pig: Maybe WE should kiss, just to break the tension.

They should make a whole movie starring just the pig.

I wasn't expecting anything good from the movie but was pleasantly surprised. It was nice to see the family acting as more than 1-dimensional joke vehicles for a change. The best parts of the series were always when the Simpsons themselves were shown as a family, rather than a group of individuals, each with their own joke vectors (Homer = Jerk, Marge = Nag, Lisa = Preachy, Bart = Criminal). The secondary characters are just that, secondary, so having them supporting the story rather than being the focus of it makes perfect sense.

The Simpsons falls apart when the writers forget that the show is about a family of people, rather than a cast of hundreds with 1 joke each.

I had no expectations, but all I can say is I really enjoyed it.

I'm very sad that Sideshow Bob's stuff didn't make it in, but thats what the DVD is for I guess.

It also feels like i've bookended my Simpsons watching, I feel like I don't have to watch anything past Season 12 again.

It gets a big "meh" from me.

Probably the least-good film I've seen in theaters this year.

I hope if they make a Simpsons II: Simpsons Harder, they spend a good four years on it like they did for this one.

They can quit making the show, too. Just make movies. That'd be fine by me.

Pretty average movie all round, really. Depressing to see how far the series has fallen.

The weird thing is that in the UK the Simpsons is just as treasured as it is in the US, yet barely any new episodes have been shown since the late 1990s. A mercy, I suppose.
