    I bit. Approved instantly FWIW.

Should come out to $431 after discount because I added a controller.

Good catch on the free shipping. Thanks!

No word on the card for me yet.

Hopefully I get it by thursday. I'd be bummed if I miss out on the shipping deal.

I just bit the bullet for the glorified PS3. Approved instantly for $1500.

I justified it because of the free movies and because my little brother will benefit from his very own PS2 come Christmas. Saves me some money on his present(s). That boy is spoiled though... given him a PS1 and Game Cube already.

At least I get three pay checks this month.

I have one of these cards (since 1999! whoo-hoo?), and it's been fine.

Switched hands a few times, as banks have been sucked up by others.

Had no problems with the points program. Just be sure if you keep the card and buy more Sony junk, you send in the form for the extra points. It's like 3x or more if you buy something in a sony store, which I guess is what this deal is about. Just make sure you send in the form.

if I didn't have a PS3 as of now I'd be all over this. I can honestly say I've been getting great use of my system. It really does have games that are worth getting, but obviously not nearly as much as say, ps2 or 360. it will absolutely have some stunning games of which there is no doubt. I don't need to list the ones that look outstanding because we all know em, but I'd figure getting a PS3 at about $350, knowing some of those AAA (well, hopefully AAA if they end up being as good as previews lead us to believe), are comming out this year then you'd be able to get the system for much cheaper in order to play those titles than if you got them when they came out with the system, past this deals' deadline.

yeah, that's right you fear my run on sentence of fucking doom. FEAR IT.

I just caved and ordered this. I realized I'd probably be spending $600 for one when Rock Band comes out anyway, and that wouldn't even have the Emotion Engine hardware in it. So I guess I've got a couple of questions...

    1) How does the "point" system work with the Sonystyle store? Apparently I got 8x points on this purchase, which worked out to about 4800 points altogether... does anyone that already uses the card know what this translates into?

    2) What are some good titles to get on Blu-Ray? In particular, has anyone seen the Planet Earth series in high-def? I'm thinking about ordering it from Amazon.

I have Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. If you like the Pirates movies, I recommend it. It's very purdy and has like 11 hours of bonus features. I don't have Planet Earth, but I've heard good things about it. Same with 300, The Departed and The Prestige.

Here in the UK, if you register a PS3 on the PSN Network, they send you Casino Royale on Blu-Ray, so thats a good start.

Also, I have Planet Earth on Blu-Ray. It is truly awesome. Some clips are not in high def, but that's apparantly because the environments filmed in precluded the use of high-definition filming, other than that I think there's a version in America that replaced David Attenboroughs voiceovers with Sigourney Weaver, a true crime against humanity if ever I heard one, although the one you linked has his narration, so it's ok.

I read that they used the same codec for the Blu-ray version as they did for the HD-DVD version and it's resulted in a lot of noise. It's not too noticeable, but it's also not as good as what you'd see on their HD channel.

That's the sort of surprise I wouldn't be happy about after ordering the set... I'll be checking on that. 300 is definitely on my list, I'm glad I didn't get around to picking that up last week on DVD. Casino Royale seems like a good title to own in high-def, though since it isn't free over here in America I probably won't buy it again just to see every freckle on Eva Green's face... as awesome as that must be.

Yeah, when I first saw that you got a Blu-Ray free for registering a PS3, they were giving away X-Men 3. I kinda never checked up on that, so on the day I bought my PS3 I picked up Casino Royale on Blu-Ray as well.

Felt pretty retarded when another copy of Casino Royale turned up in the post a week later...

Wonder if it'll be delivered today or tomorrow.

(For what it's worth, I ordered it late last Friday, and it shipped from California by ground, so it made pretty good time. Of course, I paid the cheapest ($15) shipping, as I had no idea there would be a free shipping deal this week)

So the credit card I've had for the past few years doesn't earn "points" (not to my knowledge, anyway) so I'm a bit clueless: how do you spend/view points accumulated on your account? Because the almost free controller that comes with this deal is most excellent icing on the cake.

You can view and redeem points from the Sony Rewards website, once your account is linked to the Sony Card.

Also, don't forget that you can get 5 free blu-ray movies with the PS3 if you buy it by Sept 30th. Just print this form out and send it in by Oct 30th.

Very informative. The site states explicitly on the Redeem page that 1 Sony Rewards Point = $0.01, so using the Sony Credit Card is basically giving you back 8% of your purchase (until Sept 30th according the application, then it goes down to 5 points per dollar, or 5%).

The awesome thing about this is that you are given credit on the PS3 purchase amount, $500, instead of the amount you're going actually going to pay after the $150 refund. So if you only buy the PS3, you're really getting 11.4% of your purchase back in store credit.

Plus the five Blu-Ray movies and free shipping*. Yow. Sony is really hot to unload these things.

*free shipping ends today. If your credit card hasn't been approved yet, hurry up and get on the phone with JP Morgan/Chase at 1-888-868-8618 and say in your best pimp voice: "bitch, where my money? I wants me a PS3!"

I think in order to have taken advantage of this I would have had to have created the rewards account 1st, applied for card, got card, tied card to rewards account and then made my purchase.

My account shows 50 points and you get that for opening the account.

OTOH maybe points are tallied up when they send your statement. I dunno.

When I ordererd mine, there was a little checkbox that said "use credit card reward program" or something similar. I hope it worked. They haven't emailed me anything about the rewards or the exact state of my card.

The purchase must have worked, though, because Fedex assures me I'm getting a PS3 on Monday.

I have to admit, this deal is extremely tempting. $350 is damn cheap, considering how much it usually is. Just listening to the latest 360 Arcadians podcast made me think, "HmmmMMmmm".

However, the reason I probably won't be getting one is because I'd literally have no time to play it. There's plenty of 360, PC, and DS games I'm anticipating already, and none of the PS3 titles are "omg!nownownownow". (Now, if MGS4 weren't delayed, that'd be a different story altogether ...)

    Quick!

I want to get one actual PS3 game for my new PS3 console (it arrived today!). I don't particularly want to get either Resistance or Motorstorm though, since FPSes and Driving games, while occasionally fun, aren't really my thing.

What's the least crap of the rest (that isn't also available for the 360) that I can use to justify my purchase to myself?

I just got mine and it included standard AV cables and that's it so you'll need to grab component. On that note, is there a way I can connect the PS3 to a computer monitor? Some googling has lead me to believe it's a tricky process but someone suggested that something like this would work. Anyone have any insight into this?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but all you'll need is an HDMI to DVI connecter which seem to be fairly cheap on eBay. I was thinking of using one since my TV only has a DVI port left available.

A quick google search led me to this page (I'm pretty sure that's the one you would need anyways), but if you want to remain HDCP compliant, you'd probably have to find a more expensive one.

I thought about that but some googling lead me to a lot of message board posts saying stuff like this:

"If you look very carefully at your onilne users manuel it says that any monitor that is not HDCP compliant will not take the signal from an HDMI to DVi cable. This is because HDMI is high-bandwidth and most computer monitors today will only accept 31.5Khz of the bandwidth in question. But by all means, if you have an HDCP monitor, do the damn thing."

Which is why I'm skeptical. I suppose I could try it -- at only three bucks or so, it's not like I'm losing much.
