Is Dragon Age essentially a fantasy Mass Effect? I'm mostly thinking in terms of character interaction and plot.
It occurs to me that there aren't a lot of games around that tread that middle ground of having a character you can influence but isn't a totally blank slate.
Sort of. Sheppard doesn't talk though. That took a lot of getting used to.

They're similar, but Mass Effect was a lot better than Dragon Age in that regard.

Ehhhhhhh kind of? Dragon Age 1 has you play a male or a female from three different races, and then the races have two individual origin points. So unlike Shepard there's a ton of variety, which means no voice work. This means you can have more options in a conversation, and THAT in turn means that you can be anything from a for profit merc to an outright sociopath to a paragon of justice to someone caught in a bad situation with the prejudices and whatever of their origin but still trying to do good. As opposed to Paragon/Renegade. Otherwise, yeah, you have a party you travel with and you go to three dungeons and then fight a boss, Bioware style.
Dragon Age 2 has Hawke, who is basically a lot closer to Shepard. The difference is instead of Paragon/Renegade it's Aggressive/Snarky/Good Guy (those aren't the official names). The plot is shaken up from Bioware's usual formula though, it's more like a TV series with multiple villains and time skips and stuff. Dragon Age 2 was rushed out the door from executive meddling and it shows.

Oh, and in DA1 each origin is its own hour long or so sequence that is kind of a big deal to the character, so there is that aspect to work off of but you can go your own way after that - pretty good for roleplaying
Shivahn get it we can be newbies together and solve mysteries?????(????)
Well, I do basically have extra money now that I don't need to spend money for Valentine's day :P
Alright well this is a weird position to be in \o/ yay you can get the game
:I boo you can get the game because of circumstances
I explained it last night, but it's not really actually terrible. It's sad in the same way a good movie ending is sad. Something good is over but you're really happy you had it while you did. So don't be too frowny!
The real problem is my home internet sucks so this download is going to take a fucking eternity.

They ripped off Coulton's cover of baby got back without asking him. They don't technically need to ask permission because he did a non commercial cover of Mix-a-lot's song, but they took his arrangements and amended lyrics as well. Played side by side they are identical, lyrics, arrangements, everything.
They had it on the itunes store and tried to pull it, but they couldn't get it off the swedish store fast enough so people got screenshots of it, and likely, since Glee releases the tracks to itunes on Friday before tuesday's episodes, it's part of Tuesday's episode too
are YOU on the beer list?

Microsoft again not focusing on beating sony in horsepower is a good decision I think
Sony focusing first and foremost on number of polygons they can push is a bizarre decision
Sony is in a really shitty financial position right now. They cannot affort to go with a loss-leader strategy on their console. So I think they need to have at least some higher numbers on paper to justify what I expect to be a much higher sticker price for the console.

This sounds an awful lot like something no one's going to care about in a week.
Allegedly a voice of reason.

I think it's interesting that both the PS2/Xbox and PS3/360 launches somewhat coincided with the launch of a new media format (DVD and blu-ray/hd-dvd) which also helped drive sales of the consoles. They won't have that bump to rely on this next generation.

agreed. which is why I said I'd hate to be their PR person, and not Fox attorneys
Riemann, I'm kind of drawing a blank as to making a map with clickable states. That would be a lot more impressive than a simple menu, right?
I would think so yeah since I would assume a drop down menu would just involve populating an existing UI control with data wheras the map would need custom rendering code.

I dunno that it's so much interesting as it was completely intentional.
Didn't PS3 going Blu-Ray help seal the coffin on HD-DVD? I think I remember that being a thing.

If you guys are playing let me know. I need to get a guild invite still but I am new-ish. I played maybe 11 hours?

Well I mean they have my money and there's no monthly subscription so
I still like STO for instance, I just burned out by doing nothing but playing it to a Vice Admiral for two weeks-ish. I would totally come back to it periodically.
I doubt I will ever pick up GW2 or whatever though.

that too yeah. There are a lot of things working against Sony releasing a console this year.

Eh, I'm not sure how important that was, really. Maybe more for the PS2, but the 360 sold plenty well with just a plain DVD drive.

Porn sided with Blu-Ray, just like they did with VHS back in the day.

Why?
They probably didn't think the Glee::video game music crowds overlapped enough to notice.
