I guess Border Break Union came out in 2012... technically.

It's definitely the game I've put the most time into this year.

NONE OF YOUR FILTHY ARCADE GAMES, CASUAL

    (was it an arcade game?)

It is indeed an arcade game. 10v10 game that blends Battlefield and Armored Core, basically.

I was just rereading Oglaf's archive and goddamn but for a comic that set out to be porn, it is fucking hilarious.

The bit where the apprentice is kidnapped and keeps sending cumsprites to his queen had me nearly falling off the couch I was laughing so hard. And I've read the entirety of the comic almost 3 times now.

The artist is fucking prolific too. I remember thinking 'oh man it's been like a year since I've read Oglaf, I bet I could kill thirty minutes catching up'. And then it's like two hours later.

@Solo oh yeah? It seemed fun enough from a gameplay perspective when I was playing it...in so far as I find any horror games 'fun'. Does it get too stingy with food/supplies later on?

I didn't beat it, so I don't know what it's like later on. But the whole thing was just super unfun.

Most popular games, even if I personally dislike it, I can at least see what the appeal is. Lone Survivor, not so much.

FTL I grew to dislike, after an initial enthusiasm

Binding of Issac never really drew me in

Haven't gotten to play any of this year's "big publisher" games like XCOM or Dishonoured

I enjoyed everything about Hotline Miami, except the lackluster ending, so I guess that's my game of the year?

Borderlands 2 had ∞ times more bonerfarts and midget boners than every other game released in 2012. The choice for GOTY was clear.

oh yeah, i missed that one. i played a ton of it but never beat it. was too long and repetetive. but my roommate is back on the train now and has been missing our RE6 nights to play Borderlands 2 again. Dammit.
BL2 is all about the multiplayer.

This playthrough does not feature chatters. I have lost one rookie so far, so the casualty count is low. I am playing Classic mode, but not Ironman, because after three attempts I was sick to fucking death of the bullshit chance to hit bullshit bullshittery.

    It was bullshit.

Fucking all five of my guys miss a reaction shot, then all five miss the followup shot and then two of them die on the next turn.

I was this close to flipping a table.

You know what else is bullshit? The train mission that is the second part of the missions in Slingshot. You have to fucking race to beat the timer and you get Mutons warping in. This is before you have time to develop any kind of tech yet. You're fighting mutons with fucking machine guns.

On a 10 turn time limit.

On a mission with a shitton of Thin Men.

I fucking love XCom. But it enrages me like few games can.

I dunno. They come up as council missions. I don't want to skip them because I want to know what it's all about.

The missions are always the same, though. Not random maps, but set pieces. With the same enemy placement. So the next time I try it I'm going to try to save as many turns as I can by hauling ass when I can.

PS. I pre-bought XCOM and stayed up late to play it the moment it unlocked.

So at best, OTLC played it at the same time as a bunch of chatters, not before. :P

Mmm, still has duels but much shorter, yes. It is so satisfying. Especially hacking dudes equipment and murdering them with it.

Halo 4 ruined dueling anyway by adding +10 one hit kill weapons and mostly by having ordinance drops which contain them. You never know who will have one.

Previous halos were all about map control so you always knew if you or the enemy team had power weapons.

I don't know who started doing this, but when the revolution comes, they will be first against the wall.

"A historic event." Unless you have the thickest cockney accent ever, in which case it would be "an 'istoric event."

yeah, he's right. this came up in an audiobook i was listening to the other day. the rule is actually that it's based on the sound of the word

    http://www.betterwritingskills.com/tip-w005.html

their example is 'an hour' rather than a hour. due to it being pronounced with an O sound.

so yeah, thanatos ain't no grammarian.

Really? By what rule? "Historic." It isn't even vaguely close to a vowel sound. Like, not even a little. You don't even have the British/American argument you'd have with "herb" ("an herb" in the American dialect, "a herb" in most of the British dialects). Would you also say "an holiday?" "An hamburger?" "An habit?" "An hobo?" "An horse?"

  • TarranonTarranon Registered User regular
i'm pretty sure thanatos knows the rule and his point is that the proper pronunciation of history is with a pronounced 'h' phoneme which would make 'a' more appropriate

it's a pretty edge case though. i'm comfortable going either way

Please, enlighten me as to when a hard "h" became a vowel sound.

In fact, in your cited example, it even says "a hotel."

Weirdly, since is based on the sound following, you say "an RPG," or "an FTL drive," but "a URL" (since the letter "u" is pronounced "yoo," with a consonant sound, even though it's a vowel).
