Seriously, is the 300km all on a bike, and all in the one day?
Because, like, that's longer than most Monument Classics. Closest I could find is the 2012/13 Milan-San Remo, which is 298km. It is serious distance. In the offroad world TransProvence is about 250km and it takes place over five days.
Yeah that's the one. It's pretty scary. I just picked up biking again the past summer, logged maybe 150km during the whole summer in total...
The rest of the events involve vasaloppet, skiing for 90km which they told me you have enough time that you can at least do it before the track is closed.
The second is 3km of swimming which should be fine.
There's also a 30km running event, which I should be fine in considering I will run some months earlier and also am a runner.
And then there is this 300km bike race, which stands out and seems totally insane. If I manage it I will be proud, but I am worried partly because of my lack of experience and also because I have almost zero biking gear.
My "ride all day" pace on my road bike is about 30km/h, but I've only ever tackled about half that distance in one go.
Best advice I can give you is that you should be familiar with the bike you ride, and the gear you wear. Endurance (12/24 hour) MTB guys go by "never use anything new on race day". In principle there isn't any reason why you wouldn't be able to ride the course on an MTB, but it is going to be slower than a road bike, which may be an issue depending on how much time pressure you reckon you'll be under and whether or not you care about your placing. Another racer's maxim is that any bike you can ride for four or five hours you can ride for twenty-four. So it might be worth getting on the bike, going for a long ride, and seeing what kind of average speed you can maintain. Anything that gets uncomfortable you can change and then try again.
If you're using an MTB get slick tyres and run them hard. If it has suspension lock it out (if possible) and/or replace the fork with a rigid one. Anything that can be done to reduce weight can only help as well.

So, Bitsy is now up to approx $2500 in emergency vet care over her 6 years alive (almost all of it from her getting into stuff we have locked away by virtue of surprising persistence and/or creativity)
Leroy has been alive for 8 years and he'd still at $0
I love both my dogs, but right now I'm loving Leroy a little more

And now that I cleared the draft to respond to this I've forgotten the punchline.
So let's just say I'm reporting you for violence.
