And how about the recently deceased Gert, which hit loyal readers hard?
“I cried a single man-tear at the lunch table in the middle of Comic-Con,†declared Whedon. “I wish I were kidding. I curse Brian K Vulture and everything he stands for. If I did have the chance to write that indelible, brilliantly conceived character, I'd kill her.â€
I think I man-love Whedon now. His Xmen is one of the few mainstream Marvel books I read (and the only version of the team that got me into comics that doesn't embarass me (damn you 90s cartoon!)) and now he's doing Runaways.
I hope he's not serious about killing off Nico and Xavin.
I'm about ninety percent sure those are jokes, but that doesn't guarantee they won't die.
It also doesn't guarantee they won't be dead by the time he takes over.
Well, thanks to continuity fuck-ups, we know nobody dies in the current Runaways arc (because the YA/Runaways miniseries takes place after it, and everybody's accounted for).
this is fabulous news if he can keep the book on schedule.
I was led to believe via insinuation and cryptic silences that Peter David would in fact be the writer, but Whedon is definitely on the 'like' list for me, so i don't feel too betrayed.
Because the covers look nice but oftentimes the inside art is lacking.
both. I think his covers are great, and I think his interiors are nice and clean, though nothing standout. After Alphona, I'm not sure I can picture his style on this book, but I do like him. It seems a bit like have Eaglesham or Benes drawing Hellblazer, though.
I love Whedon's stuff, for all its flaws ("that dragon thingy behind me?" or the entire dangerous arch) ... it still got me back into comics. I hope the next team on that book does a better, more consistant job. (Is cassady jumping ship with wheadon?)

Goddamnit, Lockheed was the best part of that arc.
man, these are the same people who are upset that Thor won't be saying thou and thee every five seconds in his new ongoing.
the same people who go "DC sucks! superman is so overpowered! WHAT ARE YOU, CRAZY?!!!! SUPERMAN CAN'T BEAT THOR!!!!"

Best possible outcome as far as writers. I don't read New Excalibur so I can't really say about the art. It looks decent though, I can see Ryan's style on Runaways.

Ryan's art in New Excalibur is usually damaged by shoddy coloring. Other than that it's rather nice.
Whedon's the second or third best choice for Runaways, so it's not too bad. He's behind BKV, of course.

It's Joe's job to think that everything Marvel puts out is a "hit."
Michael Ryan is doing the art.
I mean, come on, they're fucking perfect for the book.
The Hopper (or whatever it's called) will try to kill them.

At least it isn't the artist from YA/Runaways.
Or the free comic book day comic.
Scottie Young rocks.
Skottie Young might be a good artist, but his art doesn't suit Runaways, and we all have the evidence.
