Besides the fact that iPhones are not the only kind of smart phone, a smart pad?

No, I'm using a stupid pad. Does that make a difference?

    Horror story.

Working for TSA and being called into the "closet" to witness a more thorough pat down.

The worst part is when the passenger looks me in the eyes while his private area is being felt up.

    Slightly embarrassing.

I've started applying for other jobs. I'd sort of forgotten what a giant pain in the ass that is. I've just reached the point of realizing I was staying put for the sake of dumb loyalty to the product I support and out of comfort in the people I work with. I'm going to look around now while studying for attempt two at the actuarial exams.

    Whoooops

I guess I was too harsh with the idiot who had potentially screwed up all of the pricing in our ERP system for all of our customers.

Thankfully, the damage he did was quickly fixed, but that was a scary fifteen minutes with every CSR guy coming to me going 'Dan no matter what item I put on an order it comes to the exact same price.'

Apparently I was a little too snappy at him when he fucked it up.

Which really, he should not be doing work that involves being careful, considering that he's on Vicodin post-dental work.

As I was going to one of our back offices the owner passed me and asked "Hey Dan, why's everything $337?"

I was a bit brusque with him cause I was on my way out the door when I said "You should ask X"

Which makes me think X pulled a whole 'A duuuur I dunno what I did but Dan sure seems mad a duuur'

But if he had fucked it up, guess who they would have gone to to fix it?

I was pretty short and rude with him when I was asking around, since there's one a couple people who have access to making those changes, and he was the only one in it when the thing happened.

He used to be a 'salesman' really, a glorified delivery guy who did weekly deliveries across Florida and did a lousy job of it, so now we're bringing him back in the office to do 'marketing'

He's the motherfucker who made those Excel catalogs.

When I found out he was the one who made the change, he's not familiar enough with the tools he used to make the change, so he didn't even know what he did, so I was in a panic because I wasn't sure if he'd actually overwritten all the customer's special pricing or not.

Which would mean restoring a snapshot backup of our database from whenever it was last accurate, which would mean any orders or actions taken in the system since the snapshot, like printed orders, picking tickets for the warehouse, manufacturing orders linked to sales orders, purchase orders written by the purchasing dept, etc, would all have to be re-done.

I mostly just don't like the guy so I probably sounded pretty harsh when I told him to immediately log out of the system and not touch it until he knows what he's doing.

I can definitely understand how you would react that way when his mistakes essentially become Your Problem. Especially with something as critical as making every single item register as the same price.

If I were you I wouldn't beat myself up too much over the angry reaction.

as long as you didn't have a fullblown meltdown

Well, the owner emailed me this evening

"Have you cooled down a little? If it was easy everyone would do it"

Which aggravates me for two reasons

One, he should fucking give a damn if someone fucks up something like that that effects his business. At minimum we had about 15-20 minutes of downtime from the CSR department entering in orders while I figured out what the hell the guy did and fixed it. It could have been a hell of a lot worse if we'd had to have restored a backup instead, or even worse, had to re-enter these special customer pricing records by hand (which we wouldn't have done because I would have found a means to import them, but I digress)

Two, he's right, it's not an easy job, so why the hell would you give it to an idiot like that guy. And it means my job is difficult, but I can almost bet the guy makes more than me due to his 'promotion' to this new position, which pisses me off because I've yet to get a raise my boss keeps telling I'll get, when I know my predecessor made $20k more than I did, and didn't do half as much around there to improve operations (not entirely his fault)

You know I probably shouldn't complain too much, not yet anyway. I keep all my cover letters and I've got a folder for the ones for which I've received rejections. There's only four in there at the moment, not counting the one where the funding for the job suddenly dried up so they didn't hire anyone. It just feels like more.

In any case, I've locked down security on the tool he uses so he at least can't make that same mistake again, and he'll have limited access to some of the more advanced functions until I'm comfortable with his ability to use it correctly.

I'll also be putting together some documentation tomorrow, I suppose to show them how to do it.

I was the only person in the office today. Working on my own, its surprisingly stress free and i got a lot done. Still no word on if im driving Hank Scorpio's car across the country or not though, oh well. Maybe next week.

They told me they supplied everything bar safety boots.

Honestly, tell your boss that it was a big fuckup and the guy should have happened and that it was actually really lucky that there only was fifteen minutes if downtime.

He is probably only seeing this as "only" fifteen minutes of downtime. Whereas you are seeing it as a collosal fuckup in all respects.
