Something about art students getting good grades for hurting people and trashing public spaces reminds of that old Onion article: ACLU sues to defend the right of the the KKK to burn down ACLU headquarters.

Isn't this basically what the original Joker in the Batman movies was?

"I am the world's first fully functional homicidal artist".

I'm fine with letting freaky performance art be called art, but when it comes to the dangerous, inconsiderate, or basically anything done in public

    you can stage that shit

if you think you might end up biting an EMT during your performance, hire an actor to be that EMT

you can stage the whole bloody thing and make it as real as your time, planning, and wallet allow, and it will be just as good.

    yeah, you could

    and should

or I dunno, an art student could probably write an essay about why the message is different blah blah blah but they're weirdos

but calling something art isn't an endorsement.

You could and should, but what is transmitted would be different

I've actually written papers about this and it's a fairly important distinction between what is real and what is not

for certain values of "fairly important" :P

See, it's easy enough to classify absolutely anything as art.

And the nice thing about that is you don't feel like a bad person when you choose to ignore certain types of art, because you can't possibly take EVERYTHING in.

And that is how I justify being a philistine. :rotate:

Well, it certainly could just be someone having a psychotic break. But it's a rather pointless line of inquiry since she didn't actually do this.

There is a long history of artists being severely mentally ill, too. See: Van Gogh, more relevantly, Antonin Artaud (look up the theatre if cruelty)

The point is, Jeep is not having an honest conversation. He has been pressed to define art. He has opted instead to use personal attacks and (failed attempts) at negation instead.

I could do 15 years fixed and have the mortgage on a small 2/2 be half of the rent on a similarly sized apartment, hell, just a bit more than half of what a studio runs around here, although they're uncommon. Property taxes aren't that bad either, although homeowners insurance rates suck.
