Let us talk about table top games.

Also this important message from Stilts:
Hey, Melding, I've finally decided on the winners, so you can put the results in your OP.

It's you, you won both spots with one character.

You are the greatest ever.

The other team I was considering included Dubh's Kenku Bard and Pony's Warforged.

Either way, one of Dubh's characters would get in, because I adored both of them.

But choosing between Dich and Pony's characters was agonizing.

ah dang. i wasn't sure if that was going to be a problem, i assumed it would act like most punctuation and separate.

Minor minotaur tangent: I was still in the process of creating a minotaur with a muskox head, as my bother wanted a slightly individual minotaur. I liked the idea of his character, whose name is Icelandic for Þór's Ox (Þórnautgripur), to be a bovine of an arctic/nordic cow, and muskoxen are indeed of that region. Eventually the intent became to have his whole tribe be muskoxen type minotaurs, and to have ties to the minotaurs from Thunderspire, being a sect that broke off and worshiping Thor (which is my placeholder of sorts for Kord).

All of which is really just a way to say that I love drawing traditional monsters of traditional ideas in slightly different ways that I have commonly seen.

And then I came across the designs for the Muskox Minotaurs from the Narnia films. :|

you can use quotation marks around names to preserve them
@Antimatter's folly would be to notify themselves for someone to quote them

Also @Pony your character sounds like it might make a good Berserker (they're a Barbarian essentials sub-class).

It's a really fun class to play, and they're not like most e-classes. They get full power selection, and even have a class feature to choose from! They're in Heroes of the Feywild, if you're interested.

    Kobold Monk (me)
    Dwarf Battlemind (Caulk Bite)
Maybe a Rogue? (Platypus; he's new to 4E so it'll probably take a bit for him to figure out his character)
    Minotaur Rogue (Dubh)
    Hengeyokai Cleric (Dich)

I came up with my minotaur's name by hitting the random button a few times until I noticed a pattern

    then I worked from there

her nickname, of course, was inspired by x-com

what does a D&DI subscription get you exactly by way of the tools?

it's not a replacement for the books is it?

Hey, is it a good idea to plan out your character's build up to the max-level? My Half-Orc Gunslinger from the Pathfinder AP I'm playing in is still just Lv2 but I keep wondering/worrying if I should make some sort of road-map on how I want her to grow with her future feats and such. The only thing I've planned so far is to make this when possible.

Supplement, not replacement. Character Builder, I know, as well as the magazines. Also, the virtual tabletop, though I have no feedback on how good that is.

It depends. Some people like to plan out the "build" while others prefer a more organic approach, making decisions as they go according to what best represents the direction the character has grown.

The worst part is I'll have manage ~three weeks per level, all through epic. One of my players wants to get a character to 30th level before she turns 30, and she turns 30 like the beginning of December. That, combined with me taking a two-level break around the end of the semester, I need to allow two full months (nine weeks) for the other DM, so I need to go a bit faster just to be sure.

Also I would totally play a 4e game but would not offer to run it. I have my hands full running a different game that's about to start

    roll20 actually looks pretty dope

the one thing that always sorta scared me away from maptools was how clunky it looked and felt, but this thing looks slick as hell

  • Options

Maptools is exactly what it sounds like, with it and the token maker you basically create the grid map for your game while players and the DM chat over the ventrilo system. Dice rolls are done using macros in the program.

Roll20 is essentially the same thing, but it's all centralised and incorporates video chat and use of sounds and music as well
