I too have a question that might be ignorant, but I'm curious about what folks think:

There's a person who was born a man but would like to be identified as a female. This person is into weightlifting and is constantly going "ha, bet you didn't think a girl could do x" whenever she does something that she feels is significant (and she's pretty strong, so that's often). Is it wrong of me to think "yo you're working with a man's genetics, even if you self-identify as female, so maybe tone that back some?"

Excessive bragging isn't fun, no matter what gender or sex the braggart is. Don't let their condition stop you from telling them that it's starting to get irritating. And then find someone else to hang out with if they don't want to stop

It's a person online so yeah, I can ignore her no prob. But it's weird for me because if you didn't know the person was trans and just saw her numbers you'd go "holy shit, that lady's elite level strong" but no actually, she's genetically a man and whelp.

@Dubh I get that you don't want to be looked at differently, that's totally fair. But there's a measurable difference between men and women athletically it's gonna be hard for people not to get hung up on it.

So here you go, new thread, sate past-me's curiosity!

Nah totally but coming at it from the other side I can understand it. Anybody who would actually say anything to you or complain about it can shut right the hell up, that wouldn't be ok.

I'm still immensely hung up on my gender identity and it sucks. I'd been mostly comfortable with living the same as usual for the last few weeks but then over the weekend it came back in force.
Like, if I had confidence that society weren't going to brutally beat my ambitions into the ground the first chance it could, I'd hit up an HRT specialist first chance I got. But the fact is, I'm not sure if I want to calculate that risk where I am in life. And the only place I'm very comfortable with venting has been here, so great timing for the thread @metalbourne <3

Well when it comes to gender identity and transitioning, don't do anything more than you're comfortable with. There's no reason to transition too fast and make yourself miserable or trade in a part of yourself that you're uncomfortable with for another part that you're equally uncomfortable about.

You can express your identity however you feel comfortable. There's no "right way" to do it.

Yeah, but also be careful not to let society totally dictate everything just because it's society. I finally hit the point where I was like "fuck this, I've spent four years being terrified of what society and everyone will think, and I'm so fucking sick of it that I can't stand it anymore. If I have to bind my chest and go out as male for the rest of my life I don't care anymore, I just want a body where I can go home and take off whatever is hiding the new parts of me and feel at home."

And it has been awesome for the admittedly short amount of time since I made that decision. I mean I fully intend to start going out entirely en femme, but that's really secondary to how much I want to change, and how strong the feelings started to be as soon as I changed in the slightest bit (because I was already on antiandrogens and when my chest started growing it was amazing in ways I never expected and it kind of snowballed.)

So I guess I'm saying that you should absolutely not do more than you're comfortable with or transition to fast or anything else, but don't let fear of society entirely dictate how you live.

Part of it is that I'm still effectively dependent on my parents for medical costs and I have yet to formally bring up the subject with them. I really have no idea how that conversation could go.

One piece of advice I can offer is to go after the low hanging fruit first. Fix those things about yourself that are easiest to fix. It will go a long way toward making you feel better about yourself.

To be fair, the given reason is he retired due to poor health, so him dropping dead shouldn't be that far away.

I kinda was annoyed but then everyone focused on how this is the first time in 600 years that the Pope resigned instead of being forcibly retired by his boss, and how it's mostly because of how amazingly hard the dude dropped the ball on pretty much every divisive issue in the Church. So now instead of the polite eulogizing, we're getting "wow, duder sucked harder at his job than anyone in the past 6 centuries. That's mad sucking."

    Which is kinda neat.

And to drag this vaguely back on topic, this video made me a little happy but mostly sad for the guy.

    On a serious note though

my best friend is bisexual and it really bothers me how badly treated bisexuality is by people who identify as straight or gay. Especially when it's coming from the 'gay community' (dumb term), I don't get why people aren't trying to promote accepting people as they are.

Edit: And of course trans* folk are in a similar place here, too.

When I was back in high school dealing with my sexuality and everything, I tried really, really, really hard to convince myself that I was bisexual, because then I could just only like girls and ignore the liking of dudes and WHAM. Problem solved. So after I realized that I was just entirely into dudes, I resented bisexuals a bit because they got to just like the opposite sex and thus "had it easy."

I was very young at 20.

Happily(?) I dealt with my sexuality by never ever speaking about it ever, so I never engaged anyone who was bisexual so, even though I may not have been supportive, at least I wasn't a shitbrain to them. Now I'm all about you liking or not liking whatever gender you like or don't, and that's cool.

While shooting the shit with my co-workers, who are incredibly casual about this stuff, I mentioned how I experimented before in my late teens with another dude. I don't know why but many of them assumed that experimenting to the degree I did automatically invalidated what I identified as and immediately labelled me as "gay????" Like, okay, majority of them were curious about the mindset I had about it all and were very accepting. The few others, though, just kept asking "How are you not gay?"

Maybe because I think preferring boobs and vaginas kind of rules that out and broad generalisations are fucking ridiculous
