if there's one thing we've known for a very very long time is that introducing species to isolated islands is never a good idea

guamians are now reaping the spider-and-snake harvest they've sown.

Boss: The exhaust fan for the donut fryer sounds like it just exploded.
Me: *checks fan* The exhaust fan for the donut fryer did explode. *checks Grainger* The soonest we can get one that doesn't cost $1400 is Tuesday.
Boss: We have to have one now, frying donuts for 3 days without an exhaust fan will be hell.

well yeah but if guam had been a place of much spiders before, killing off the bird-eating species there to get more birds and less spiders would also be a bad idea.

    that is fucking terrifying

next it'll be scientists have noted spiders growing larger in response to the brown tree snakes

    and then

spiders have acquired a taste for brown tree snake flesh

    and then

tree snakes eradicated, island children mysteriously disappear

    alright that's it

this 4th of july, obama should invite the russians to not just go around guam, but fly straight over it, preferrably dropping bombs as they go

Diversity in general is like that. Like you are much more likely to solve problems with a diverse team just because they can approach any problem from a variety of angles, and it's obvious that specialization and being identical breeds extinction, but it's hard to concretely form that thought or explain.

how many nuclear weapons do you think it'd take to sterilize guam

Birds usually do ok population wise even without predation.

Basically none of those tiny island ecosystems naturally included predators that ate the birds.

    Lots of bunker busting bombs.

    And napalm.

Just rip up the island and set it on fire.

Russia's doing some good old chestbeating. Everybody likes to do a bit of banging on their chest every once in a while, but Putin seems to like doing it a bit too much.

Because of said chestbeating affinity, my international security professor recommended to us students that Finland ought to seek NATO membership, or barring such, a separate defensive pact with the USA.

    So, uh, guys.

I've got Berserk, Trigun and Gungrave on DVD, I'd be delighted to share if you'd lend us a nuke or two.

Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.

I got a little excited when I saw your ship.

I know, but life is tenacious. I'd fully expect some kind of pregnant subterranean spider to live.

I'm sure all spiders dying would have some negative effect on ecology but.

Think how much we would learn by studying the aftereffects of a spider-free Earth. It will totally be worth the downside.

Russia's chest beating is on the level with North Korea's chest beating though. Their military is so hilariously under-funded and outdated at this point.
