Picking a TV to buy is hard work. I hate being someone who knows about Audio/Video shit.
You can spend less on a TV if you are getting a good receiver.
Since I assuming you like the video games, I would not get one that requires up scaling or does any mandatory "image enhancements" as those tend to cause latency.
There are only a few companies making panels out there. It is possible that the 42" Westinghouse with 2 HDMI inputs is every bit as good as the Sony 42" with 5 HDMI ports because they are the same television inside where it counts.
And if you send that 800 you save on not buying a name brand on a really decent receiver with zero latency pass through of composite and component connections to HDMI, you have a fantastic, easy to manage setup that can handle modern and legacy consoles.

It's so awful. Playing "wait, why are these two the same size but that one is $800 cheaper" is the worst game.
I was just in the FutureShop across the street from where I work lookingat them I was infront of 2 Samsung Series 5 LED TV's one was 39' and the other 40' $150 difference the clerk couldn't tell me why 1 inch was worth that much.

Ideally we should have specific tanks for different areas. In Asia, for example, the tanks will convert poors into rice. In Latin America, they get ground up into beans.
Canada is easiest because poor people can be readily converted into the same consistency as poutine.
