[Reminisce On] Nox

Nox is an isometric PC game developed by Westwood and released back in 2000. It's a lot like D2, except the PVP doesn't eat goat ass.

Nox can largely be described as an isometric pvp game. You have your choice of 3 classes and a variety of skills for each. The usual suspects are available for multiplayer maps, deathmatch, capture the flag, uh...more deathmatch.

The PVE storyline has something to do with an errant lad being flung into an alternate deminsion of somesort and having to do battle with an evil necromancer woman who's into bondage gear. None of this is actually important but it's a good excuse to post up some titays.

glf_work2.jpg

EA no longer supports Nox's online servers, the only MP available is through Hamachi.

Many Nox players suffer from missing CD-Key syndrome. It's been reported that if you own any of Westwoods more recent CnC games, you can input those keys for Nox and it'll work.

nox004.jpg

I fondly recall playing the Warrior and using the grapple/charge combo to gib hapless fools. I believe we've tried to get a GAME ON going before.

****

Since Westwood has disbanded and Nox is no longer officially supported by any of it's corporate associates, the game is considered abandonware! The laws of man need not apply!

Nox was a thing of beauty back in the day. Picked it up for $5 and it was worth every penny.

I remember when I played a demo of that. It was good. Reminds of the days when it felt like Blizzard & Westwood were sparring, and had some good friendly competition going. Command & Conquer V WarCraft, Diablo V Nox, Blade Runner V WarCraft Adventures. Ok, so that last one never actually happened.

Feels like a golden age of gaming has passed forever :( Westwood is just a C&C assembly line whore, and Blizzard is forever beholden to WoW.

okay, confirmed for myself, the official servers are all down. Trying to register a new account just times out, and when you try to connect to patch it gives you an error.

Looks like the only play available is through Hamachi.

Man, I just wanted to lend my considerable (Read: complete lack of) Gamer Cred to this thread. Nox was so awesome. I played it back when it was new, and recently (1 year, maybe 1.5?) played through it again. Turns out, yes, it's still awesome.

I loved the expansion pack they released later for free. Played it with my brother.

It was basically Westwood's tribute to Gauntlet.

I remember buying this on a whim when it came out because it was made by Westwood Studios. The single player was pretty good, but the multiplayer, wow, very fun stuff. It pulled off deathmatch and CTF in a hack 'n slash game very well. It was a ton of fun.

Oh man, I lost my NOX cds somewhere in one of my moves. I'm still sad about it. Thanks for reminding me :(

Seriously, I remember playing through the game a couple times, some fun stuff, and multiplayer? YES, PLEASE.

Except I never wanted to be a warrior since I wanted to discover new and exciting ways to get out of their grapple charge combo. Cause seriously, warrior grapple/charge + mage = dead mage. I also liked how mages could get a spell that would kill everything around them, including themselves. Damn it. I just liked mages!

I lent my single player and install disc to someone else, and kept the multiplayer disc, and never got those two back.

Man, I loved that game so much.
    It was so good.

Force of Nature. Fist of Vengeance. Shit, how young was I when this came out?

hahah, the two main spells I used since I always played conjurer in multiplayer. It was fun (and cheap) to spam force of nature down hallways to kill people. Also in deathmatch, stun+fist of vengeance, haha loved that combo. Also, I liked either summoning a mechnical golem to wreck people randomly around the map, or summon four of those fireball throwing demons since they did decent damage and when they died, they exploded and caused even more damage. Man...I miss Nox multiplayer.

The MP. So many fond memories.

One time I shot a crossbow right into some warriors face, killed him and the bolt burst right through him to hit a mage standing nearby killing him too!

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

haha nice one. Warriors were annoying, seeing how as a conjurer you couldn't stun them, only slow them down with the spell. That and they could follow you through your teleport. Yet it was always hilarious when i was carrying a staff of Force of Nature and when a warrior, thinking he is all cool and bad ass war crying me so I can't cast....surprise bitch!

I was actually thinking about Nox last week after playing some Titan Quest, but I've lost the game discs. I guess I'll have to go bargain bin hunting for this.

Man, wouldn't it be great to see all of Westwood's games on Gametap or Steam sometime? Nox with some Lands of Lore would be epic.

I remember playing both the single player and multiplayer demos quite a bit though I never got around to buying the full game. It's probably still on my Amazon wishlist in fact. :) Multiplayer was surprisingly fun!

Me and my brother also figured out that when you installed the game, sometimes it'd give you the Staff of Oblivion for multiplayer (as a debug option to spawn), other times it wouldn't be there.
