Any characters as search options?

redfenixredfenix Aka'd as rfixRegistered User regular
Would it be possible to add characters such as [ ] ( ) etc to the minimum character count on a thread search?

If so, the MMO sub forum would be easily and elegantly searchable for threads regarding a particular game.

As it stands now, searches such as [WOW], [EVE] or [EQ2] aren't usable.

If there's an alternative search solution, I'd love to hear it, of course.

So is this just and unreasonable request, or just stupid, or what?

Or maybe Ramius and Co. spend most of their day in proper jobs and haven't seen your thread yet.

It's a good idea, people only shoot down stupid ideas because that's fun. Hence the lack of posts.

If you come into a thread half a fucking hour after you post it demanding an answer you won't get one at all.

It was 12 hours Tube. Still not a shitload of time, but not completely unreasonable either.

Posting at 1 am then coming back at 2pm wondering why hard working people are not at his beck and call is not reasonable at all.

Well, I'll certainly await a response, but I thought half a day was perhaps enough time for it to be seen.

As it were, I'll be patient.

Good thing I didn't ask after half an hour, apparently.

Half a day if they were being paid to do this and were at the PA office (if there is one) waiting on people to ask them things. I'm pretty sure all the staff work real jobs during the day.

We are currently in the process of evaluating a search solution which will (hopefully) completely replace the one built-in to vBulletin. If that goes through, I can see about allowing square brackets and parenthesis to be searched.

In the mean time you can just use context. Things like "sourpuss", "power abuse", and "favoritism" should make for a suitable replacement for CT when egosearching. :)
In case it's not clear, I'm just being silly. Don't want to get banned. :(

    Teefs, you can already egosearch.

    TFS*

Doesn't work with two character words, though.

If you happen to use Firefox just hit CTRL-F to bring up the find dialog box, once there type [WoW], [EvE] etc. into the search box, make sure Highlight all is selected.

This'll be great. It keeps me from Ego searching because a three letter name(The, Man) isn't allowed.
