It's not a redesign in general, he was specifically aiming to reverse Link and Zelda's roles

Zelda is Blue is Triforce of Wisdom
Ganon is Red is Triforce of Power
Ganon is a fucking wild beast. Gannondorf showed that even in his brief human form, he was a wild man from the wastelands. When granted his heart's desire by the golden kingdom, he became a fucking beastlord. He is the embodiment of wild-rage and power, and his aesthetic always emphasizes such. It's part of his Gat Damn motif.
Zelda is not a master sword user. She is wisdom. Note how her warrior persona was Sheik, a ninja who used subterfuge, wit, and quick thinking to hide everything about her (including her gender) to protect her triforce. She is about magic, about thinking things through. When she was a pirate queen, she was using fucking wisdom and not great courage or power to make her empire known.
Link is who he is because he's about courage. He always comes from humble backgrounds to emphasize the epic undertaking that he is about to embark on. He's often a child to hammer the point home that he is fighting demons, monsters, and all sorts of scary shit but bravely moves forward. The Master Sword only gives itself to those truly worthy, and he is worthy because of his bravery.
But nope! 'Empower' the woman, steampunk it up to shit, and post it on Kotaku. That's the bees knees.
And aside from being horrible 'redesigns' based on a fundamental lack of caring about the series, they are the blandest, bland, bland shit you could imagine. It is boring, standard, victorian 'steampunk' shit. It is hilariously appropriate the kotaku picked up on this with a raging boner and announced that Nintendo is 'lacks the balls' to have a poor gender reversal that has nothing to do with the series but the names.
If nothing else, the absolute irony of making Zelda the empowered woman blah blah with the sword and having the headline "Lacks the Balls" tells you all you need to know about Kotaku's reporting. They should bronze, frame, and display it at their corporate headquarters at the center of their motivational posters.

He also specifically mentions her primary ability is magic, and of that barely any is aggressive/offensive. As far as the Sheik stealth aspect goes he describes a Sheikah robe designed to facilitate that kind of gameplay. I think you're violently reacting this because of a nostalgic investment in the series and preconceptions about the intention of the design.
One thing I really liked about Spirit Tracks is it's probably the most honest deconstruction of Link and Zelda's relationship in the series
It's the one game in the whole thing where Zelda never, ever, ever loses her personal agency, and she's just as important as Link, and the only time you have to "protect" her is when she's winding up to blow the bad guy all to Hell. You are a tank drawing aggro away from her.
Nintendo's been moving in good directions in terms of making Zelda more than just a damsel. They're not entirely there yet, but by God they're going in the right direction.

I kind of like hte redesigns. They feel a beet safe, a bit too steampunk for my liking, but they're neat conceptually! I'd sooner have Link be an ignorant prince with real courage rather than a sheltered fop, but overall I actually liked it. Bit too much focus on the transformation mechanic for Zelda, but I think Diaz's heart is in the right place.

I don't like the redesigns for the reasons I put up and then I attacked Kotaku as well because why not.
It's a genderswap with a boring as balls aesthetic with no concern over the series itself and why the characters are who they are.
