I just got two sprues of 2mm letters and numbers for my bases. So tomorrow is going to be busy. Painting my endzones, painting my gravel pits, adding numbers on my bases, and hopefully getting all my beards painted. I might try to actually get a game in too if anyone has there team with them.

I used to have fumbbl set up, but it has been quite some time. I still have a full BB set from an edition around 2005 and a half-painted Skaven team. Lovely game.

I've actually used Khemri to some effect in the video game incarnation of Blood Bowl. The trick is basically to play like dwarfs or Chaos if it wanted to score points with the Warriors.

I doubt if I have the time for league participation but if you guys get one going I'd love to see writeups.

So can anyone who uses fumbbl tell me how to get a game started? I click to activate my team, it says pending next to my team, and that's it. 15 minutes later, I'm back at needing to activate my team.

Still waiting on fumbbl confirmation email.

For raw effectiveness I always preferred dwarves, elves, or skaven. For most fun it's impossible to beat Goblins.

I could never ever get Chaos to work.

Hey, I think your problem is that you have constructed your team as a Blackbox division team; here's the info about how to get into a Blackbox game. I haven't played in this division at all, so I'm unfamiliar with the process. I could certainly help if you want to play in Ranked.

From what I understand, Blackbox is a far more unforgiving and competitive environment than Ranked; with the latter you get to choose your opponents, so you can try and play people of a similar level to you (not just with regards to your team ranking, but also your own experience). I think it's mainly the hardcore that play Blackbox.

    No pictures today, just updates.
I should have all the paint on my players by Saturday. Hopefully by Saturday night I'l have them sealed too. Then I can start on painting the second group (coutners, coach, spare runner, apothocary, etc).

The pitch construction is waiting on me buying sheets of insulation foam. It's been raining too much for me to throw them in the back of my pickup. Hopefully those will be soon. At least I can use d the pitch, it doesn't need detailed dugouts or a mountain/scoreboard to be usable.

@Ken O Bring it to GamesDay. All of it.

    I kid.

So let's address these rumors that GW's mystery box game this year is going to be Blood Bowl. Don't they still sell Blood Bowl as a boxed game?

If I was close enough to drive, I'd consider bringing the Mountain. The only Specialist game I saw being played at Games Day last year was Gothic. If I knew Blood Bowl was being played there I'd for sure bring the team.

They still sell the boxed game. The rules are a free download. The metal teams are still direct order from GW. They could do a new box set or even a limited edition set, but I've heard that rumor so many times now I'll believe it when I see it.

I would seriously love a Dwarf team that looked like they do in the video game.

And my starting players are done! My second round of painting is primed and ready to start painting now. The second round will be my second Runner, Coach, Apothecary, reroll and turn counters, and my pony and beer cart.

My photography skills are as bad as my painting skills, but I honestly think the team is my best painting work yet.

No new pitch progress. I need to buy the insulation foam boards. So of course it's been raining almost nonstop since Sunday. On top of that I had some truck issues that needed fixed.

I broke down and ordered the Dwarf referee.

Sunday is "Open Try Outs" at the store. I'm going to be helping people get a game in before the Spring Training league starts. Beasically I'm going to help those who haven't played a game yet before the League starts.

I haven't played it, the teams it added weren't worth it the additional cost to me. Since the Khorne team isn't an offical one they even put the team rules on their website.

I've seen Norse teams made using a box of Chaos Marauders. The werewolves and yhetee are the only things you really need to hunt for.

I thought the boxed set of Bloodbowl was out of production. But having looked on the website I guess not. But that box definitely needs an upgrade, I think, and new plastic teams would be welcome.

The Khorne team is weird. As far as i know, the same guys that made slaan, chaos pact, and underworld made it, but they also had restrictions\requirements placed on them by cyanide. I think the core idea is really cool, and I would like to see them redesign the team with table top in mind without cyanide's restrictions. I would really like to see a crazy frenzy team get more acceptance.

Seemed like there was already enough frenzy teams. Khorne just kind of seemed redundant.

Someone explain the pros of choosing a Chaos or Dark Elf team; I'm just not seeing it. Chaos' standout ability is Horns, which is one of the weaker skills. Dark Elves...every other elf team has some advantage (high elves = armor, elves = cheaper, wood elves = leap) and DEs have witch elves, which in my opinion is the lamest unit in the game in terms of price and ability. An expensive low armor S3 frenzy unit???

  • Options
tzeentchlingtzeentchling Doctor of Rocks OaklandRegistered User regular
Well, Chaos also gets S4 AG3 AV9 players, and can take 4 of them, with no real downsides. Black Orcs are AG2, and Saurus are AG1, so this means that your Chaos Warriors are relatively mobile. Horns isn't a great skill on linebodies, but having S4 whenever, wherever you need it on a blitz (including even if you haven't moved yet) is worth it. And access to General, Strength, and Mutations for skills means that your players can be tailored pretty well to whatever is needed.

Dark Elves are a mix of the other Elf teams. Their linemen and blitzers are AV8, so more durable than pro elves or woodies, and they can take 4 blitzers, which no other Elf team can do. Frenzy and Jump Up are good combos on Witch Elves, and coming with Dodge means they need a single skill (Block) to become rather scary. Having a Frenzy player on your team cuts down on where on the sideline opponents want to play. Assassins can Stab to get rid of low armor, annoying players who might have Blodge and/or Sidestep. Dump Off on Runners allows you to play a little more loose and less cagey sometimes, though it's nothing to rely on. And of course, they're still AG4, MA7 on almost all their positionals - slightly slower than the other elf teams, but again that AV8 makes up for it. They're going to play a much more close-in game, if not necessarily bashy.

    Advantages of Chaos:

-Chaos Warriors are one of the best pieces in the game, for reasons tzeentch went into. Plus they have sweet helmets.
    -Strength Access across the board.
-Mutations. You can very highly specialized beastmen and I love it. Have a Claw\Po\MB piece. Have a prehensile tail diving tackle piece, and so on. At High TV they are a top team. (if not the top team).

To be fair, Chaos is definitely one of the hardest teams to play at low TV. Without Block on the Warriors, S4 means much less. As you mentioned, Horns isn't a great starting skill, and you still pay for it even though only one person on the team at most can benefit from it per turn. The team is pretty slow - MA 6 is the fastest they've got. Once they get going, they can definitely be tough to beat, though.

I've been thinking of doing a Slaanesh Chaos team when I'm finished with the Dwarf one. Use Daemonettes for the Beastmen. Use a fiend instead of a Minotaur. Warriors would still be Warriors. I think it'd be fun.

    BB%2520Spring%2520Training%2520First%2520day1.jpg

The first day of our Spring Training League went pretty well. The experienced players showed up with Lizardmen, Vampires, and Dwarfs (me). Our new players created a Chaos team, Skaven, and Ogres. I tried to talk the Ogre player out of it, but they were going to be playing them in Fantasy soon so were trying to get double duty out of the figures.

    BB%2520Spring%2520Training%2520First%2520day2.jpg

I managed to win 2-1 against Skaven but it was very close. It rained the entire day. On the Skaven's first scoring drive I botched a go for it roll that would have stopped them from scoring. On one of my drive both the Skaven player and my Dwarfs were trying to pick up the ball but kept failing. I think it was turn 3 or 4 before a Dwarf finally picked it up. I don't know who won the Chaos vs Vampire game but I do know the Chaos Minotaur learned block with the Star Player points he earned. I don't believe our Ogre player will be playing again.

    BB%2520Spring%2520Training%2520First%2520day3.jpg

We had one late comer with his Chaos Dwarfs so there was a Dwarf vs Chaos Dwarf game. Nuffle was not kind to me. I lost 0-1. Every time I got close to scoring I'd fail an important role. After the game I managed to get a lineman guard and buy a second runner; so even though I lost I'm mostly happy with the results. The picture above is my favorite character in the league. It's one of the vampire thralls. I don't know the figure's actually name but I've been calling him Old Man Jenkins.

They are really rough to use as a first team. It's not a good team to introduce someone to the game at all. Sucks that he won't becoming back because of it.

Every Ogre on the team still has Bonehead, which will strike when you least want it, and the Ogres are really bad at ball handling with only AG2. They also don't start with Block, so even S5 blocks are risky sometimes. The Snotlings (or Gnoblars, if you want to be OK specific) are S1, so just about anyone can get a 3-die block on them, and Tichy, which means if they go down they probably won't be getting back up. It's a very hard team to play, even at higher levels.

Yeah, I really felt bad about it, but I tried my best to stop it from happening. The player is welcome to try another team next week, so hopefully they'll be back.
