With the forumer events thread going up, that probably means it's time to get a thread up for Prime parties. (Idea 100% stolen borrowed from the East Parties thread just like last year.)

If you know of a party/meetup, post the info below. I will keep the list updated here with time, date, location, cost, etc. so that everyone can have a single point of reference. Also don't forget to follow @paxparties on Twitter.

My band (coming up from SF) will likely be playing a show one of those nights...Hoping some forum folks can make it! I'll post an update with more info on the venue and such when it's available.

Here's one of our music videos, for those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRUsPC2LNsU

In years past, were the vast majority of these 21+? I'll be making the trek to my first con, and I would like to take in as much as possible as a 20 year old.

@travman93 I'd say yes. Last year about 80% of real parties required you be 21. The only notable exceptions I remember from last year were the curse party which should be avoided at all costs, and the Post PAX Party.

So sadly being 20 means you'll miss the vast majority of real parties, but you'll still be able to attend everything at the actual con and the concerts.

BTW when I say real party I mean something that happens after PAX hours when the expo hall is closed and there are no panels. There are still plenty of things going on before and during PAX. Last year if I remember correctly there were two breakfast get togethers for different companies Sat and Sun, but because they happened during PAX I kinda justi ignored them.

TLDR: Vast majority of after hour parties will require you be at least 21, but there are still concerts every night and get togethers during the day that don't have an age requirement.

@savovah You seem well versed in all things PAX. This will be my first PAX and I'm curious which night of after hours parties would you consider can't miss?

I would say about 50-60% are 21+ but not all. We went to the Double Fine afterparty and the CAH one, both were awesome and no age limits. Don't count yourself out yet, check the thread from last year linked in the OP. If there was an age limit, I made sure to note it.

Lol I'm not well versed at all. This will only be my second PAX everything I'm answering is just stuff I asked or experienced last year so I already know the answers. But I think Saturday had the best party pickings last year, but it was also the night where most required you be 21

The curse party (past midnight) was the sickest party there was last year.

It was held (4th or 5th floor) in the Red Lion. Early in the evening it was quite busy, but later on they were handing drinks out like water. Good music, better crowd, lots of people dancing, was a hot mess until it was shut down at 2am. They had a few computers setup for those wanting to game a bit, small vip area out of the way - which is nice as some vip areas are just obnoxious.

I usually follow @paxparties while I'm there as they will re-tweet all the info that comes in for the parties that weekend. Also don't be afraid to hit up a lot of the smaller parties as those (from my experiences) are usually the most fun.

@myx I think we went to different parties.

I showed up to it "casually late" and all I saw was them purposefully staggering entry to create a sense of exclusives. I was finally allowed in like an hour later to a dead party that had an empty dance floor, and low quality drinks being handed out in thimbles. I stuck around for half an hour taking to random people before everyone decided the party was crap and left for hotel room parties or the concert.

The best part of last years curse party was actually leaving it and talking with people as they left too.

And according to Twitter the East one was just as bad if not worse because in addition to the prime bs they also weren't checking tickets so people that RSVPd weren't getting it period.

@Orrik unless you're under 21 I'd say avoid the curse party like the plague. If there's the same number of parties as last year there will be so many better options whatever night it ends up being on. But honestly even if you are under 21 I'd still recommend avoiding it like the plague and just go to the concerts or chill in your hotel.

My BF and I tried to attend the Curse party last year and showed up on-time-ish. There was a mass of people outside the room the party was actually held in, and very few were actually being let in. I was asked if I wanted to skip the "line" and head on in because there was apparently a poor ratio between males and females currently in the party. BF and I agreed I'd go in first and scope things out. It wasn't until I got in that I found out the place was nearly empty despite it being over half an hour past when it was supposed to start. I played a bit of the game they had on the PC's in the back, realized they really weren't going to let more people in until way later, and left.

If that's the case then definitely avoid them. Last year during the curse party there was the Turbine, Riot, and Trion Worlds one. I heard they were all pretty good.

Assuming they do throw parties this year which I assume they will because they all have games coming out or recently did. I'd suggest trying to hit up Turbine, Trion Worlds, and TESO.

Apparently TESO had one of the best parties at east, Turbines was also supposedly good at Prime last year not sure about East, and Trion has been known to have alcohol rifts open at their parties.

Yeah we were there right in the beginning but hopped around a bit before coming back. The trick must've been 'after midnight' I guess, most parties usually don't pick up until 11ish anyways I find. Did anyone else check out the avicii .party last year? Personally I thought it was terrible, if you had a bad time at curse I can't imagine what you would've thought of that.

And I heard a lot of good things about the bethesda dishonored party last year so hopefully they'll repeat the success again! Just make sure you pick up/sign up for any invites/rsvps so you don't get left out in the cold!

Also get in line crazy early if you're going to something like the Elder Scrolls party Bethesda had at East. I caught a panel from 6-7 and was told there was a 2-3 hour wait when I went to the pickup spot in the BCEC (the shuttles started at like 5:30 or 5:45.)

It was first come, first served. Then one out/one in after it reached capacity (going by what people who went/waited in line said afterwards.)

Dang guess I'll have to line up early when they announce it. Hopefully they do it on like Friday or Sunday. MTG usually does theirs on Saturday.

Speaking of MTG has anyone been to theirs? Was going to go last year but some jerks ruined the under 21 so I ended up not bring e able to go

My BF, friend, and I went to the Ravnica one last year. It was AMAZING. Well worth the 1-2 hour wait in line. We got there early so we were near the front(ish) of the line. Definitely planning on going again this year if we can.

Hope I earn an invitation then this year and hope it's not on the same night as the TESO one because that's just cruel and unusual punishment to make a nerd choose between MTG and Elder Scrolls.

By all accounts, the Elder Scrolls party at East this year was outrageous. Generous with tokens, fun, well organized, and I heard nothing but good things from everyone who got in. They'll have a hard time topping that at Prime.

Doofenshmirtz: Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I was doomed by a puppet, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

Any party won't be as bad of a wait as the TESO party at east, shuttles are a major bottleneck.

As long as they don't make me choose between them and MTG they already topped it in my book

I would bet they will both fall on the Saturday. The RTR party last year wasn't as good as the Innistrad party the year before, but still a lot of fun. That is, until some asshat decided to pour water on his head on the dance floor, which I promptly slipped on and took out my knee for the night.

Well there are four days this year so I'd at least hope that the big companies wouldn't try and still cram them all into Saturday night. TBH I'd bet that they will spread them out a little more this year.

I can't wait for the MtG party. I really hope it's on a different day than ESO. *Fingers crossed*

I hope TESO does a party this year at PAX.

I was at the Avicii .party last year, and I had a total blast. It was probably the best party I went to last year, imo. Good atmosphere, and good crowd. It was more of a concert than anything though. To be honest, I might be biased because I am actually a fan of Avicii...

I also attended the Curse party last year as well. THAT was a terrible mess. Lined up at around 11, but didn't get let in until almost 12. My friends and I were only let in because of the poor female:male ratio. But as we got in, all we saw were huge lines at the drink tables, and hardly anyone dancing. Thought maybe the party would get better if we got a drink, but it didn't really because we had to wait about an hour to get anything... Left after getting the drink.

Missed out on the Dishonored party, heard it was a really awesome one. Won't miss out if they have another party this time!!

Kickstarter and similar (indiegogo, etc) links are actually expressly verboten by the overall forum rules.

    I'll link their video here:

$60 almost... open bar... maybe. I just hate to set plans in stone so early when something else awesome could easily pop up (such as last year's Metal Gear party).

Hey AggroCraig, this is Bill from The Indie After Party video. You definitely have a valid concern. We know that there will be events, game related or otherwise, that people want to attend.

It may be a bit early, but our hope is that The Indie After Party is something that you will be excited to commit to because making that commitment isn't just about going to a party, it's about creating something as a community. It's also why we thought that IndieGoGo was the best way to sell tickets. We want it to be clear that anyone who buys a ticket isn't only getting access to the party, they are actually making the party happen. They aren't going to a party, they are going to their party.

Sorry for the delay getting this updated (took a long vacation for the 4th).

Indie After Party linked in post goes to the video per forum rules. Everyone should be able to easily follow the link from on the vimeo site for pricing.

    Hi xbannor,

I'm impressed with this idea. Way to go. I hope this takes off.

Here's my concern. Other than that the music is chiptune/nerdcore, and that the attendees will be gamers from PAX, this really isn't a gamer party. It's just a way to dance and have drinks for $60 in a venue that will be too loud to even have a conversation with anyone. I always avoid the corporate parties for the reasons you mention in your indie-go-go video, but I'd still like to go to a party that is about gaming.

Here's my suggestion. Let indie game developers who don't have the money to throw those big parties help sponsor this party. Now the party isn't about the big name titles, and it's not just about drinking and dancing. Instead, it's about celebrating and supporting the plethora of small names. The sponsorships, which you would have editorial control over, could help keep the costs down while not interfering with the sprit of an indie-gamer-party.

Again, good luck on your venture either way.
