Concerning the last boss of Explosives 101, it there a way to stop all of the cover from being destroyed or was it just a symptom of being in a PUG that could not DPS the glowing generator bits fast enough?

It's entirely possible. Sadly it sounds like the DPS was lacking focus/understanding... which led to slow DPS... which led to the boss going apeshit on cover.

I don't suppose there's a date for that dlc, I'd like a more compelling reason to play then pursuits.

Picked this up on friday and have been having fun so far. Got much better once I started doing some co-op missions and arkfalls. Just hit 200 ego level.

How do people get like 50 bazzilion points on the weapon challenges? I run out before even getting to a 10th of their scores.

Sometimes it bugs out and lets you use your own weapons once the ammo runs out. If you happen to have the healing gun thing equipped you could potentially go forever. I know that's how some people did it with the Chicken challenge. Screw that challenge by the way.

Good news, a new batch of Episode Missions (that's right, I said MISSIONS) has been released. It takes about an hour's worth of time to complete and appears to take place AFTER tonight's current episode, so slight spoilers.

While it's not "ZOMG! An XPACs worth of content!!". It's still better than the past few weeks' pursuit-athon.

Edit: Also, and this isn't a spoiler, there is a hiccup with the last mission in the chain. You may or may not be able to interact with the "Episode Mission" star on the docks. If this happens, you'll really need to go back outside the docks and talk to another character. They'll be shown as a white star on your minimap. So if you can't talk to the gold star, just remember what I told you.

Just a heads up warning for others, it seems like even in this game where loot hardly matters there are still account hackers. Logged in this evening to find $400 worth of bit transactions for T3 lockbox purchases on my account and all unequipped weapons sold off.

So I finally got this to work.

It's pretty fun. So far the loot system seems slightly skewed. I have pulled one magnum, and everything else... a shotgun. I like shotguns, really I do. But you can only have so many blue shotguns with effects for two slots.

Only gripe with the game so far are the knockdown physics which occasionally shoot me 200 meters. And the dearth of shops

I'm not screaming doom, but apparently the (what is normal for most MMOs these days) post launch firings have taken place at Trion. The word is the Defiance team was hit the hardest, but who knows how much info is accurate since it's still early.

    Spoiler'd IGN article
Layoffs have hit Trion Worlds. IGN sources suggest that well over half the company has been let go, with some suggesting numbers as high as 80%. (Update: Trion tells us these numbers are "exaggerated," and we've reached out for more information regarding the extent of the layoffs.)

The San Diego studio -- where development of MMO Defiance took place -- is said to have been hit the hardest. A source suggests that employees are being escorted out of the building and that senior leaders from various Trion teams may not receive severance due to "undelivered services." (Update: A Trion representative calls both of these claims "100% false.") Another source tells us the layoffs were at all studios, "mostly Defiance support staff and dev staff" and that "team members and team leads for teams responsible for multiple projects, not just Defiance specific, have been laid off." In other words, "teams that provide game generic responsibilities and services have been let go."

A Trion representative confirmed the layoffs and provided the following statement to IGN:

"To best position Trion in a rapidly changing industry, we have reorganized our teams and are expanding our free to play offering. With Defiance, we delivered a great game that more than one million gamers registered to play and continue to enjoy. As we progress from launch to ongoing development of the game, we are adjusting our staffing levels to deliver new content and improved features. RIFT, and our other titles in development, were unaffected by these changes. We are very much looking forward to the free to play release of RIFT and are excited by the other new titles currently in development."

This is the second recent round of layoffs at Trion, following layoffs from the Rift development team in December. Earlier this week, Trion announced that Rift will soon transition to a free-to-play model.

If anyone with additional knowledge of the situation would like to contact us, submit a news tip.

Sucks whenever people lost their job. :(

This happens all the time. You need a substantial team to create an MMO, but once it is there you don't need as many people for semi-regular patches and 5-6 DLC packs a year. Doubt they'd rehire people even if things went well for them (and things might be going well for them right now as they hit 1 million registered accounts across all platforms), unless it was for a larger "expansion"-style DLC.

Dangit.... I've done ComCronk so many times and can't get the last part of the pursuit to trigger. Not one person died AT ALL during the course of the entire run, obviously including the ending, yet still no trigger.

It's literally the only thing I have left for the co-op pursuits. /shakesfists

Aww yes replaced my ego level 100 bolt action rifle with a ego level 350 that has drain or whatever the purple proc is called. I can once again 1 shot shielded mooks.

Not that the first rifle became completely useless, it just required a headshot and body shot. And my xp for it has been filled for a while.

Does scrip start rolling in eventually? I bought a car which set me back a bit, should be done buying mods for a while.

Scrip, for me at least, tends to come in droves when I stop breaking things down for ark salvage. I'm not sure if you're doing that, but I noticed it certainly helped me.

I've found that driving around and completing emergencies are also a fairly good source as well. These give a decent enough amount of scrip, but your best bet is still picking up everything that drops and selling it later.

Also, as a general tip... when doing an arkfall, I'd recommend spending a few extra seconds healing with a BMG. After reading about this myself, I can confirm always getting 5 keycodes at the end of an arkfall if I've done even a smidge of healing. Whereas pure DPSing there are cases when I get less. This might be pure luck though. With this game, you never know. Ha.

So whats the current verdict from those who've been playing from the get go?

I did a couple of co-op instances (or whatever the correct terminology is) and thought "wow this is what I wish Mass Effect 3 evolved into". Is the pvp any better?

What I mean is do you think people will still be playing this a month from now?

Verdict from me is essentially, "It's a fun but ultimately shallow and buggy game with a lot of questionable design decisions." There IS fun to be had, but for people who don't like the idea of an "endgame" comprised solely of grinding for XP or working toward in-game achievements, you'll mostly likely be done once you've exhausted the 13-18hr main story content.

My largest gripe is that, even before the recent layoffs, the support the game was receiving was frankly embarrassing. Bugs present in the game since early beta were (and are) still present. What few patches they've released with "fixes" for things have been reverted hours later, when the devs discovered their fixes are also bugged. The famed "linking between show and game" really has been nothing more than 2 quest chains (Nolan/Irisa crystal backstory and Rynn/mutated hellbugs), both of which were fun, but really short. With that said, I'd be perfectly fine with the game world just "existing" in the same universe. It's just that they built up the crossover so much, that I think everyone expected more.

And I'm not even going to touch on general design decisions. Someone else can jump on that grenade.

PVP is... Well... It's shooter PVP. The nicest thing I can say about it is you are not forced to do it to complete any missions. Pursuits, yes, but not missions. In it's current state it's essentially unbalanced and highly exploitable and I would recommend playing another game if you want a PVP fix.

In regards to your population question... For the PC, I'd say there will still be a small general population playing, but it's probably going to be very minimal going forward. I can't speak to the 360/PS3 population, because I just flat out don't play on those platforms or read their subforum. Sadly, with the short PVE content, broken/unbalanced PVP, lack of developer support and flat progression system there really isn't enough of a carrot for most people to stick with it.

I know that's a lot of negative, but I'm not a fanboy and I'm not going to straight up lie to people. The best thing I can say is I don't regret my purchase. For a few weeks at launch, there was a good amount of PA participation with the game, and that was enough for me to feel like I got my money's worth. Co-op'ing with everyone here was fun as hell. Sadly going forward though, I can't really see that being the case.

Awesome response @decoy thanks for the insight!

Im not really in it for the pvp plenty of games for that so if I get some co-op fun outta this I'll be happy enough with my purchase.

Things and stuff going on in Defiance:
    Where Game Meets Show

As we're sure you know, Defiance is an entire universe that extends beyond the TV show. The Defiance game allows YOU to experience and explore life in 2046. The game, currently available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, offers players the chance to play as ark hunters (that's Nolan and Irisa's job at the start of Episode 1) in the what was once San Francisco. And because show and game are set in the same world, they will be interacting throughout the season. Check out some key crossover moments below:

    EPISODE 6

    The Peril of Pol Madis

The shifty weapons designer Nolan encounters in Episode 6 works for Von Bach Industries, a name that should be familiar to Defiance players. Von Bach's corporate secrets could prove deadly in the hands of a madman.

    Rynn's Arrival

Last week, we saw Rynn go rogue after being released by Nolan and Amanda as a reward for saving their lives. Now, everyone's favorite Irathient spitfire will be making her presence known in the Bay Area (and the game), helping players deal with a new wave of attacks from mutated Hellbugs (and maybe challenging some skilled gamers as well). Courtesy of Rynn’s understanding of Hellbug biology, the game will also see the introduction of the Infector Grenade, which can unleash small hellbugs on its target.

    That's What Friends Are For

Eddie, Nolan's old soldier buddy, was also friends with Jon Cooper, a Lawkeeper in the Bay Area and a major character in the game. They were all members of the Iron Demons, a famous squad of Earth Military Coalition soldiers who took part in the Battle of Defiance.

    Small But Deadly

The Varus Soleptor that Nolan mentions (and Eddie threatens to turn Nolan over to) is a Liberata businessman from the video game. Some believe he runs organized crime in the Bay Area. Before Nolan and Irisa came to Defiance, Varus hired them to recover a valuable artifact known as the Libera Nova Gem. They recovered the gem (with a little help from the players), but instead of handing it off to Varus, they kept it for themselves and headed east. Nolan used the gem to open a secret compartment in a Votan Ark (remember? In the first episode?), which is where he found the terrasphere that saved the town.

    Matching Outfits

Notice how the Earth Republic outfits in the show and the game match? That's because the art departments at Trion and Syfy worked together to create the Earth Republic uniform.

    Across the Badlands: Episode 6

    Update 1.020: May 23rd 7:00AM PT - NA & EU PC, PS3 & Xbox 360
    Patch notes:
    ● Along with numerous improvements and bug fixes, this update also includes new content that will tie in with recent and future events around the Defiance TV show. This content will be released alongside new episodes. In the interest of avoiding spoilers, we’ve omitted specifics, but it includes new missions, new goals, and a new open world game mode called Sieges!
    ● We’ve continued to optimize areas around the game world to improve performance.
    ● Even more updates to improve server performance.
    ● Continued to optimize voice chat options and functionality. You should hear less robo-voice, stuttering, warbling, and slurring.
    ● The PvP map, Freight Yard, is back!
    ● The Dam Defense Hotshot is available again.

Gotta love how I talk about lack of support and later in the day they push a small patch and release notes for 1.02 and tell us it's coming on Thursday.

I'll be sure to use my powers solely for good going forward.

I know Squid linked the 1.02 patch notes but I just have to reiterate a few that make me happy
    ● Added additional rewards and increased the chance to get weapons instead of grenades from Major Arkfalls.
    ● Mods that show up as vendor specials will now be higher quality.
    ● Area and region names now appear on the map and fade in and out when zooming the map.
    ● Inventory listing will mark which items are in loadouts other than the current one
    ● New option in Salvage Matrix to reset weapon mastery points.
    ● Fixed ark salvage spam when exiting menus if you broke down a lot of items in the salvage matrix

Depending on cost, Reseting my weapon mastery is pure sex. Also, ark salvage spam was ree-donk.

Now for the bad... Why the fuck is the ComCronk pursuit not mentioned at all? Tonight I'm going to purposely die to see if it's something as silly as the "Shadow Wars: Wins are losses and losses are wins" type situation.

Yeah, I agree. It's the downside to adding something like this post launch. It's a great feature to have and I'm glad it's being put in, but tends to punish everyone whose been playing.

I really want to say I remember someone saying that episode missions will be coming back between seasons. Whether that was official, wishful thinking, or my tired brain... who knows. But if true then we should be able to get it back.

That's the thing though, when you re-do the main mission line you don't get the named items - just a lock box.
So if we're able to redo the episode quests, we might not be able to get the named items :(

It's not the end of the world, as you can easily get an AR with just as good stats, but it did look pretty nice.
Definitely going to hold onto my named and rare guns now though.
