i always invert except in some very rare cases in third-person games where the shooting or whatnot is not dependent on camera control.

    otherwise, invert.

Invert-Y is silly, I can see it's use in flying games, but in others i guess it's just preference.
I tend to think of it as moving the crosshair, rather than moving my in game head, thus pushing up moves the crosshair up, etc.

You mean, so that down is up, and up is down? That is the best way. Down is more like back anyway, unless you're holding the controller parallel to the screen, so having it make you lean back to look up feels more natural to me.

I even invert the y axis on 3rd person games, given the chance.

    Yes. This.

This is how normal people are.

    bongi you're just not normal.

normal people do not associate down with up and up with down

i suspect that the pod people have begun their invasion :<

In an FPS, the right control stick is basically your head. So if you're pushing it forward, you're tilting your head down. Push it backwards, your tilting it up.

    It makes perfect sense.

that doesn't make any sense, keith

"push it forward to tilt your head down"

there's no reason to be found in this phrase

Put your hand on the back of your head.

Now push forward. Your head looks down

Pull backwards. Your head looks up

    bongi are you retarded

if you're going to claim your head is pivoting then you have to invert the x axis too you bumface

    Inverted is silly.

When I look up and see the floor and down to see the ceiling, then Invert-Y will seem natural, until that topsy turvy world comes about, Invert-Y is smelly and silly.

    I meant down-up in the counter-intuitive sense.

    This is complicated to explain.

I guess it depends which way you think you are holding your controller.

Flat and horizontal = plane controls
Vertical and upright = stupid non-inverted controls.

What Sil is trying to say is that if your controller is horizontal, then you're not pushing up or down at all. You are pushing forward and backward. Forward to look down and backward to look up makes more sense and feels more natural if you think of it that way.
