Well E3 has drawn to a close, so I thought I'd dedicate this [chat] to an upcoming console...the Retron 5!

Yeah. The Retron 3 had ones based on the Six Button Megadrive controller. Dunno why they ditched that.
I think the console makers don't really care anymore.
Console tech is covered by patents, not copyright. You provide the games.

Yeah, copyrights seem to last forever, but fortunately disney never got into the hardware biz so patents are still relatively short.
EDIT: Although I'd think the GBA was still covered -- could just be that they really don't care.

I was really excited when one of my friends gave me two or three huge boxes of old Genesis / CD / 32x / Master System games and hardware about years ago. Unpacked and hooked everything up...but I only used it once or twice and once I packed it up to move I never unpacked it again. It's down in my basement somewhere in a rubbermaid tub.
Maybe I'll hook it up to a TV in my daughter's playroom when she gets bigger.
