The Frostlands first came into view at about midday, after you had travelled for several hours. The first thing anyone saw when they approached the city were the parapets of the high walls, an ancient remnant of the time when barbarian tribes still claimed most of the northern lands as their own. They were the highest walls in the world, by all accounts, though the Frostlands had not been directly attacked in centuries. The city had once been surrounded by trees, situated towards the edge of the Greatwood. But years and years of human settlement had required lumber for housing and land for farming during the few months of the year when the weather could support it. Now the Frostlands was in the center of a huge clearing, surrounded by the aforementioned farmland. It took about an hour from the first sight of the city to reach the gates, at which point you hopped off the cart that had carried you this far, and began to make your way towards the city center.
If you did not know any better, you would never guess that the Frostlands was the capital of a House at war. The streets around the central market were bustling, though you would be hard-pressed to find any men of serviceable age among the throng. Still, passers-by could see city guards, most of them relatively young men, patrolling regularly to maintain the order. Children gathered on the lawn in front of the Temple of the Triumvirate, where they laughed and sang and played games, as if their fathers were waiting for them at home, and not waiting for their deaths at the hands of their bitter enemies. It was considerably easier to support the costs of war when it was your side that was winning.
And the House of the Gray Wolf was winning the war. As far as the citizens of the Frostlands were concerned, there was but one reason for that. It was a name that was on everyone’s lips, as each day brought new reports of another victory for their House. And each day those reports praised the leadership of one knight in the service of their Lord: Sir Furic. Two and a half years ago, when this war started, there was not a person in the Frostlands who would know that name. Sir Dalar or Sir Talusid, venerable warriors who had long been regarded as the leading military minds of the House, would of course be more recognizable. But it was Sir Furic, and his eponymous battle plan, that had been winning encounter after encounter. Now it was Sir Furic who was being called the greatest hero the Gray Wolf had ever produced, though few people, if any, knew anything about the man other than what was spread by rumors.
Those rumors had reached your village soon enough, and a patriotism you had not seen in your lifetime swelled up among your fellow villagers. Men left their families to go join the army in what was quickly becoming a great war for the glory of their House. Everyone wanted to share in the victory of the Gray Wolf as it progressed in its war against the House of the World’s Edge. And that was what brought you to the Frostlands as well. You’ve lived your life in obscurity, an age of peace where only those born to wealth had any chance to make a name for themselves. In this war you saw your chance to be a part of something greater than a small village a few hours ride from the Frostlands.
In the central market was where you first spotted the poster. An image of a knight, Sir Furic no doubt, beaming with patriotism as he stared out into the crowd. His finger thrust out, not accusingly, but as if Sir Furic was choosing you personally. Below the likeness of the knight was his message to all the House of the Gray Wolf:
Will you join the cause? Will you fight for your House? Will you, along with Sir Furic, realize a glory that will be everlasting?

Not the high-fallutin’ court intrigue parts, but the down and dirty battle parts. If you wait until the game thread goes up, everyone is getting an individual role PM. Just to be clear, this is not an ASOIAF phalla. I just borrowed and changed some elements from it.
