On thinking about it I am still incredibly uncomfortable with the notion of guns as home self-defense.

If MAD worked for the US and Russia it should work for me and that prick down the street. He knows what he did.

You should invest in a harpoon. They are much harder to accidentally discharge and you can kill whales with them.

Actually, I watched The Office’s season 3 finale on T.V.*, and only seen a handful of Earl episodes. I just like the humour in them, because it consistently doesn’t suck and is pretty original.

    * The rest being on DVD or the Internet

Earl's all right, but I don't do everything in my power to follow it. The Office, however, I've gotten hooked on. A girl I was seeing brought the DVDs over for season one and two a couple months ago and we watched the seasons. I caught a handful of episodes for season three on television, but not many and I think I missed the finale.

Yeah, because you know they're lurking like crazy to see what people are saying about them in their farewell thread.

Yeah, but I was thinking about how Manifest decided to make a thread saying that he is quitting as a mod and bitch about us, and all I could think of was "Who gives a shit? We will get a new mod and life goes on".

But that Slungsolow guy is pretty lame as well.
People gave me love behind the scenes for contributing to him taking off.

variable vs. room round one goes to variable. wooo. half an hour and we are "clean" and also have some posters up! now I just have to get some framed to complete the plan.

we have penny-arcade "you wouldn't get it", penny arcade cardboard tume samurai, a poster inviting to a hunter s. thompson signing and whatnot, and an American Psycho poster on the back of my door. to be framed (and gotten, I only have the first) batman begins, grindhouse, and movie to be named later.

round 2 consists of dusting and vaccuuming, and round three is the much lauded cable organizing fest.

    [chat]... I need advice.

I've been working with radioactive ore samples for 3 days now. We mill core samples into dust and put portions of it in envelopes for later testing. We use a 3M plastic mask with cotton filters, designed to keep out radon, a semi-thick cotton labcoat to protect ourselves from the dust and latex gloves.

But what about the effects from gamma rays? If I touched a sample with gloved hands, wouldn't the gamma rays still penetrate? I've had my hands covered in dust from ore samples. Should this make me nervous about longterm damage?

    Also...

As we're milling, the millstones and samples get incredible hot after a few rounds through the mill. I've been told this is simply due to friction, but I seriously doubt the people running this 'labratory'.

No one working at the lab has any previous experience with lab work or uranium mining, so I'm wondering if certain safety precautions are being sidestepped in favor of faster turnaround times and cheaper labour.

Aren't you required to wear the little film badges?

My understanding is that not a whole lot stops gamma rays, short of really thick lead.

Neither do I. All I can tell you is that gamma rays do not, in real life, give you strength to the degree that you can play 'see a person, throw a person'.
