They've done a pretty good job just paying lip service to the ethical quandaries of human alteration and skipping over rungs of the technological ladder and then saying, "but seriously, check this phat lewt." I doubt that will really change. It looks like the primary decision you have to make is how to use the new rare resource.

That said, this expansion looks amazing. City UFO fights? Yes please. [shutup&takemymoney.gif]

Wait...what is this symbol seen in the trailer at 32 seconds as the council starts to lose the signal:

Might be a fairly common emblem in the game and I'm just being abit forgetful but I don't recognize it.

    You can via Paypal.

Edit: Nevermind, looks like The Bureau is region-locked.

Sure seems like Nuuvem just got a lot less cool, with the SR4 thing and now this.

I really want some sort of moral dilemma in regards to gene splicing and cybernetics versus good, old fashioned blood and bone.

I mean there's already ideas in my mind about forcing my troopers to sacrifice their limbs and their humanity to fight off the alien menace, but I want it to be acknowledged in the story and mission progression.

I'd put in a chance that people might reject the splicing/implants.
Not just failing to get them, but actually being worse off for having tried.

"We tried to enhance our snipers eyesight but it didn't take. Now his aim's 20 points worse than it was."

For added evil, the chances are better with higher-level troops, but never so low you don't feel incredibly nervous about putting your only Colonel through the procedure.

a Second Wave option that randomizes the skill tree for the chose-one tiers? holy shit that sounds like fun.

    but this is the best:
Oh, and there's now a Reduced Beginner VO option that will shut up Drs. Vahlen and Shen, allowing us to do our walk of failed Iron Man Shame without being talked down to.

free at last. free at last.

Random skillsets on soldiers is going to be freaking hilarious. Wonder if you can use Squadsight with rocket launchers.

I'm very curious as to how the whole enemy agents/another force thing from the trailer remotely relates to any of the revealed info on the expansion, considering they've said it doesn't add a new campaign.

If there is an option to make the VIPs on escort missions never say another word ever again, I am calling this the greatest expansion of all time.

All great news. I just wish they would just knuckle down and knock out a shit ton of maps cause the game needs them most of all.

Cult of Sirius? Was that an Apocalypse thing (which I never played)? I figured it would be like, the Illuminati or something. Kind of a rival XCOM organization out for it's own good (like that shadow organization from Stargate SG-1).

I always wanted randoms on maps to DO something. Like the VIP mission where the bodyguards are hunkered down near a car. They have pistols. it would be cool if they USED them.

On a sadder note, I bought The Bureau. It's... mediocre at best. I was hoping for a Mass Effect 3 style squad based shooter thing and it's about as underwhelming as it gets. BOO.

The Cult of Sirius was an organization of alien-worshipers in Apocalypse. They hated XCOM from the get-go, which made them a perfect target for raids and plunder.

I'm assuming that in this case it means there'll be the occasional mission where you're up against a human squad.

Nah, anything sectoid related has to end in toid.

I'm hoping they also add variations to the current enemy types. Like, in addition to the standard sectoid with 3hp (Classic), plasma pistol, and mind meld, they add additional troop types? Like, give a slightly tougher sectoid 4hp, plasma pistol, panic, etc. I think (for me at least), the early game ends too quickly. I could turn on marathon mode but then the end game takes too long.

I haven't really played enough of this to be authoritative, but it's sort of disappointing to me that their solution to "people are exploiting the stupid alien reveal system by inching forward so they don't trigger magical aliens" is "lol u gotta run forward scrub." Forcing me to trigger your shitty enemy group system if I want the orange magic genetic modification goop doesn't make me any less frustrated that the aliens hang around in packs waiting for the reveal to happen. I suppose now it all just comes down to luck, like, are any alien pockets within the sight range of the route you'll have to take to the Meld? If "yes," go get fucked. If "no," grab the Meld and then go back to playing ultra-cautiously.

  • lowlylowlycooklowlylowlycook Registered User regular
From that video UR QUAN posted, they seem to want players to bring back the idea of a having a Red Shirt to open doors or dash for Meld. I'm not sure that the squad size really supports that though.

If they increased that size by 2 then it might work well. With bigger maps, that is.

Ehhhhhhh. For 30 bucks, you'd expect a brand new campaign. Not just a lot more maps and alien enemies and tech to incorporate into the existing campaign.

And I'm not a fan of the timed canisters. These new items are specifically designed to encourage a more reckless style of play, but... this is XCOM. XCOM is about being patient and methodical, because the consequences can be dire. You should never feel like being reckless.

So has anyone else seen these crazy emblems on destructoid?

    GENEMOD_SEAL-noscale.jpg

Are these new branches that are going to come into conflict with our boys at XCOM? According to their file names it looks like two new divisions which go hand in hand with the new features Genemod = gene modification, MEC = mechanized suits.

Well I don't know the mechanics of the meld stuff but in bomb disarm missions, deactivating the power nodes doesn't remove stealth.

And rather than waiting for the enemy to take a shot before returning fire, Covering Fire will now take a shot before an attacking enemy, giving you a chance to kill them before they can even inflict damage!

I'd be fine with the first one as long as some of the white soldiers occasionally used it too.

Alternatively, I'd be fine with it if the white soldiers from the USA are all crazy rednecks.
