Did you like this movie?

What about this other movie?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayTnvVpj9t4

Chances are if you have good taste, you said "Oh yes very much so, please tell me why you're making this thread though I ALREADY saw those movies you idiot."

Well I'm getting to that so shut the fuck up and sit down asshole, because this movie THE WORLD'S END is out NOW EVERYWHERE (dunno if this is true it's out where I live tho and that's all that matters to me)

Check this trailer:

I just saw the Cornetto Trilogy and it was INCREDIBLE. I loved every second of it even though I have seen Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead like 10 times each.

THIS NEW ONE IS JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER????

so see it i guess if you want to whatever

So here is a thing to notice
unlike the first two movies, I don't know that I can pinpoint this as a parody of any genre, except maybe the old relive-the-past type film with childhood friends yadda yadda

But I will tell you this

The movie absolutely uses a ton of epic conventions

12 pubs, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 books in an epic

The arming of the hero in the beginning

    The descent into the underworld

And one major thing about epic heroes is that they do not change, as characters... They retain the same qualities throughout, and either emerge victorious like Odysseus or die like Achilles, but the world does not change them, they change the world

To strive, to seek, to find, and never to yield, bitches

You know I was pretty chill about The Worlds End. I was mostly seeing it based on the people involved.

Now I am officially really excited.

I really liked this film. Not as much as the other two, but it's still a really good movie

  • AbracadanielAbracadaniel Registered User regular
World's End is a play on alien movies like invasion of the body snatchers and whatnot, just as Shaun is on the zombie genre and Fuzz is on action/buddy cop movies
I liked the reversal for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, as Frost has always played the fuckup, so it was nice to see him as the straight man for a change.

    Other things
They are gone for 20 years, which is how long Odysseus was away from home

They have a lot of battles okay yeah whatever they were awesome shut up

They get seduced by sirens (night club)

That shit gets burned down like Troy

The trailers for The World's End are doing nothing for me, honestly

But I love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz is...alright and I love Scott Pilgrim so

I feel like I owe Edgar Wright the benefit of the doubt

It wasn't quite the action movie parody I expected

It only became that towards the end

I've been meaning to watch it a second time and judge it more on its own merits but...just haven't yet

It's sitting on my shelf, I'll probably watch both before The World's End this weekend

That's actually what gives it the better rewatchability over Shaun of the Dead.

The night I saw it my friends they had a argument over wheather or not you would immediately kill your loved once they turned. It got so intense the driver stopped the car, pulled off the side of the road and made my other friend get out the car. They didn't speak for weeks.

Sometimes my friends are really dumb.
