I'm not super comfy leaving those raiders for Kat if they activate again.

  • Professor PhobosProfessor Phobos Registered User regular
Baltar could activate Communications and move the civvies, buying some time?

We could also take a shot with the Pegasus main battery while they're still in a space area without any civilians.

Nah, even if we do get another raider activation Kat can get over there and have a viper for shielding. We would expect maybe 1 hit, but between kat & lee we definitely have an EM to use. But if we want extra fuel then I need this turn and next turn and the turn after that to do it, and the pressure now is pretty light. We have the cylon leader volunteering, but we also need one other

    Phyphor on
  • Professor PhobosProfessor Phobos Registered User regular
I assume we're gonna want me to blind jump at some point?

  • PhyphorPhyphor Building Planet Busters Tasting FruitRegistered User regular
    Probably yeah, but not yet

Clearly, I you can't grab mine this turn, since I have to infiltrate onto your flying bucket. Kat can launch & CAG a viper to the rear, so that's shield. If Raiders do activate then Adama will need to Communications or Command. Hopefully he will have an XO he can use, so to trigger his ability.

I'm surprised you filthy meatbags haven't parked a character on Demetrius - Captain's Cabin yet. XO'ing a person there is a pinata of skill cards for everyone. Also, Cain should be busy brigging Hoshi... unless you humans are just planning to ignore that science lab on first turn thing...

Alternatively to me infiltrating - I can scout destinations via human fleet, though Cain will need to be XO'ed to make use of that - otherwise too many turns between scout and blind jump. Too bad Hoshi is the player after me.

    Kaneski on
  • PhyphorPhyphor Building Planet Busters Tasting FruitRegistered User regular
Move to Research Lab, borrow Hoshi's miracle token

Most likely to be a cylon. Plus if we do brig him and Cain executes him, I don't want the token to be wasted

  • PhyphorPhyphor Building Planet Busters Tasting FruitRegistered User regular
For those who haven't read the Daybreak execution rules, you discard all miracle tokens and don't get a new one

  • MrBlarneyMrBlarney Registered User regular
    Turn 3: Gaius Baltar (Phyphor)

Movement Step: Phyphor moves to the Research Lab.
Action Step: Take 1 Miracle Token from Louis Hoshi (Kirindal).

Gaius Baltar meets Louis Hoshi and engages in dialogue, calming the latter's spirit. Meanwhile, on Pegasus, Admiral Cain is asked to participate in a ceremony to receive an award for her continued leadership of the fleet. Such an action will certainly lift the fleet's spirit, but could also distract from more important matters...

    Crisis Card: Medal of Distinction

Admiral Helena Cain (Professor Phobos) must choose:
    A) +1 morale, place 2 civilian ships on the game board, and then Activate Raiders
    OR
    B) -1 morale

After Crisis: Activate Basestars, Advance Jump Preparation

    O.O

Our pilot is next though. I think we would've been fine with Kat and unmanned at the rear...

Yeah... We would have been totally fine with the raider activation...

  • TenekTenek Registered User regular
I... what the hell was that?

  • Professor PhobosProfessor Phobos Registered User regular
If the raiders activated, they'd be right at our civilian ships. Can't have that.

  • TenekTenek Registered User regular
    Explain yourself, Admiral.

  • Professor PhobosProfessor Phobos Registered User regular
They activate, move to the civilian ships. One more activation, all those precious ships are destroyed. Plus, two more ships on the board. The potential loss there is far greater than a mere morale loss.

  • KaneskiKaneski Registered User regular
Correct. But between this activation and the next activation, we would've had Kat + unmanned viper in the space, protecting them. Never mind difficult to take them both out, there are cards to help - after that we can either escort, move or shoot the raiders.

  • TenekTenek Registered User regular
Kat's next. She can dump herself and an unmanned viper at 3:00 to cover 2 of the civvies and the new ones could go at 5 and 7. You traded 2 morale for the risk of... what, Kat's first-turn "reveal"?

  • Professor PhobosProfessor Phobos Registered User regular
I really prefer to keep civilian ships off the board as much as possible.

  • TenekTenek Registered User regular
Actually, I suppose if Kat draws a 5- or 6- she could just Hotshot the FTL roll (unless I misread it, been a while since I checked the rules.)

  • KaneskiKaneski Registered User regular
Makes sense if we're planning to FTL a lot - population cost of the jumps means we can't take civ hits; but IMO this was too early to call it that way..

  • Professor PhobosProfessor Phobos Registered User regular
Wait, two morale? I thought we just lost one from that?

  • TenekTenek Registered User regular
The CAG and anyone in command can pull them off. Again, risk of ship loss vs. certainty of morale loss.

  • KaneskiKaneski Registered User regular
Wait, two morale? I thought we just lost one from that?

We did. Economic difference. instead of being up one, we're down one. Total difference of 2 between the two possible results.

    Turn 3: Gaius Baltar (Phyphor)

    Crisis Card: Professor Phobos selects Option B, -1 Morale (10 --> 9)

The Admiral declines acceptance of the award and cancels the ceremony, preferring to concentrate on her work. With nothing to break the monotony, days roll on and the fleet's spirit slowly decays.

After Crisis: Basestar attack hits. Phyphor, as current player, which ship (Galactica, Pegasus) will take the hit?

Geth roll 1d8 for Activate Basestars

    Activate Basestars:
    1d8 8 [1d8=8]

Well, I'll concede the point. We can make some lemonade out of this if Kat can hotshot an early jump.

(Does strategic planning apply to hotshotted rolls? We can pretty much guarantee no population loss.)

Negative. Nothing that affects dice can affect Kat's hotshot. Official FAQ somewhere...

My first draft of the post was "what does everyone think", but then I didn't want to slow down the game for just a routine crisis choice. I will solicit advice from now on in a very un-Cainlike manner.

  • KaneskiKaneski Registered User regular
Ruling Cain-like with an iron fist is ok, as long as you make the right choices :P

I'll volunteer my miracle token, its usefulness is pretty narrow anyway. More fuel would be dandy.

Is Demetrius supposed to be inactive? I is confused.

    blahmcblah on
  • KaneskiKaneski Registered User regular
I think the "Inactive"... space on the board screen is to indicate whether a mission has been attempted this jump or no. AFAIK the Demetrius is useable from Turn 1.

Ah, ok. Then yeah, we should use it.

I will verify that this is the case. Also, fun fact: I only noticed after the most recent map update that "Communications" was misspelled. It's kind of amazing (and a little sad) that after considering how many people have used my map template (which, in its most recent resolution, has been since the first Exodus game), nobody actually noticed that.

Can't really leave it anymore. Civs in Aft need escorting, or a jump with Kat's ability to discard.
