In game it looks quite cool, and yeah I dont really see what the big deal is, you're asking me if a mutant turtle looks weird
There's a difference between "weird-cool" and "weird-steaming-pile-of-dogshit".
But if you like it and the game is fun, good for you.

I've been a fan of the turtles since the 87 cartoon, and while I haven't really liked every iteration I've seen, I can say that my complaints about the game designs is less "It's not what I like" and more "It just looks really really horrid"
Also, the 2007's movie's biggest flaw was horrible marketing, because the trailers made it look really corny and dumb and it was a lot more mature than they were passing it off as. It's actually pretty enjoyable, and basically grew up the turtles in the same way this game seems to want to do. Except it didn't make them look completely hideous in the process.
The "deep cover" and "larp" turtles sound like a return to the really great/dumb gimmick action figures.
I still have that Donetello somewhere. But he lost his right hand. I glued a big orange knife in its place so it was ok. 9 year old me assumed a knife hand was the best thing for an undercover mutant detective

I guess I can imagine the 1987 cartoon didn't have it, but I feel like every version outside of that has had some sort of focus on Raph's shell being rather beaten up compared to the others.
How is this show doing? I remember liking the pilot quite a bit.
I just finished the first season.
It's still really good. Other than some very lackluster "henchman" villains (Bebop and Rocksteady are far more memorable than dog thing and fish thing), the Splinter/Shredder rivalry is handled really well, the Karai/Leo stuff is good, and the April change has been really cool.
In fairness, Bebop and Rocksteady had a LOT more time and exposure to endear themselves than the new guys have had.
I think my favorites are "fairness," "a seven foot staff," "mercy," and "compassion," among others not shown, like making Mike leader or about ninjas hurting someone.
In fact, I like him more than any one Turtle this time out-- a first.
Cockroach Terminator is one of the better Raph episodes, just because Raph is completely hilarious when he's scared shitless.

There is no way that is Casey's voice, that is generic excitable male child for cartoons targeted at boys that has been kept in cryostasis except when Nick or Disney needs to bust him out to record a commercial.
