In addition to my day job and freelance work, I've also been asked to teach a course on basic concept drawing for the Industrial Design program at the University of Alberta this fall which isn't leaving me with a lot of "me time" but I thought I'd start a thread instead of just hiding out in the doodle thread.
I took a break last night to watch a movie and cleaned up/colored this sketch of Leonardo I did a couple of weeks ago:
Are you making any educational materials for class? I'd love to see any notes/slideshows/whatever you are using to teach the kids. I dont know if the university would frown on that though.
Either way, nice to see your stuff in one place. Its so crazy clean, I'm always impressed by the level of polish.
@earthwormadam My Draw Something 2 is all messed up right now. My games have all disappeared and don't show up when I start a new one. I even tried uninstalling/reinstalling.
Aw, you should save them in class! It would be great to tumblr (I want to tumblr it). Its kinda nice to see you do some softer shading, it seems like you've mostly done a harder edged style lately.
Yeah, the shadows (and the shading for that matter) are definitely simplified just to get the basic ideas across quickly. If I'd known I'd end up using that sphere so many times, I probably would have spent a little more time on it.
I saw that image on a tumblr blog and holyshit you sexy bastard! A) incredible images on this thread. 2) Great tips for coloring, any chance you'll make more materials like how you did for the specularity portion?
Thanks. I don't know if I'd say that foreshortening is a particular strength of mine. I have had to draw a lot of real world things from a variety of angles as part of my work which I'm sure has helped train my brain for foreshortening. I tend to construct my drawings, even cartoony bears, as basic 3-D lumps which helps figure out where everything is in space.

Makes me wish big companies would let talented artists do some concepting for their shows and video games.
Also, DMAC, you're drawsomethings frequently make my day.

I'm working on a lecture for the design class I'm teaching on color rendering in Photoshop and made this:
One thing that bugs me about the spheres is the lack of occlusion shadow at the bottom, but maybe it was left out for simplicity's sake
The vinyl toys I designed for Homestuck are finally hitting their online store in the next couple of days:
