I just finished reading the first book and loved it! The second book is waiting for me at Chapters, fully paid. I have a gift card that will get me the third at the same time!

Well, Chapters had the second book but no stores in my area have the third yet. Damn it. I'll probably just order it online and hope it arrives immediately after I read the last page of Red Seas Under Red Skies.

The series is referred to as the "Gentlemen Bastard" sequence, starting with The Lies of Locke Lamora, and continuing with Red Seas under Red Skies. The Republic of Thieves is the third book in the series.

(The "bastard" in this case is an adjective, not a noun)

The series follows a pair of elite con men who steal from rich people in a city based on late medieval Venice.

It is technically fantasy, but I would consider it "low magic" fantasy. Not a lot of wizards and witches running about mucking with things.

I'm picking up steam on my American Gods reread.

aside from the dude who gets eaten by a vagina, it kinda starts pretty slow.

Also, I work with a lady who is the most rabidly agressive fangirl of this series.

I have never seen someone get so angry about someone else not liking a book before.

i didn't even know this series had fangirls. or fanboys, for that matter. it's so low-key and small scale compared to most fantasy series

This person is definitely compensating for any lack of fandom.

I'm in the middle of a House of Chains re-read. Man, doing a Malazan re-read makes the series so much better. I'm in the middle of the conversation with Heboric and L'oric about the Tanno Spirit walker and the Bridgeburners and finally get it.

And Strings is headed to the heart of the whirlwind.

I haven't really heard of the Locke Lamora series before. Is there any series it is comparable to? Even in terms of style or prose.
Though book thread recommendations have yet to steer me wrong.

Whenever I recommend it to someone, I start the countdown clock to "so, that part with the vagina monster..." and then I have to tell them to keep going because it gets less odd

I'm going to try and marathon read The Two Towers this weekend so I can get Return of the King finished before my A Dance with Dragons paperback arrives at the end of the month. After ADWD I'll probably start reading the second Gentleman Bastards book.

Oh and if Words of Radiance actually comes out in March like it's supposed to I'm looking forward to that.

why is this in a spoiler

    because it's important foreshadowing

soon the book thread will steer him wrong

and it will be all our fault

Also if I ever want to start reading the Wheel of Time series what's the best place to stop? My friend, who's trying to get me to read the series, thinks they are ALL great so I want a differing opinion.

Do not start reading the wheel of time series.

if nothing else, let my waste of time with those books help save another from the same fate
