My computer won't cache anything. [Resolved]

So this is a thing that's been frustrating me. I've been trying to just deal with it since I didn't see any easy solutions when I did some quick poking around but couldn't find anything. But enough is enough.

Okay. So like the thread title says my computer won't cache any data. When I load things from the web, they will display until I close / leave the page. Going back, I have to reload. Frankly, I hate redundant data loading. It gets better though - some games that require caching, like some MMOs (whether it be stupid in-game store data or character data for servers) also won't cache anything.

So there's the puzzle. I want to enable caching of data and I dunno why or how it was disabled in the first place (a friend setup the computer for me, but he's busy with plenty of shit and I don't want to bug him). It's a Windows 7 machine, though it dual-boots some sorta Linux that I actually don't use.

Whatever info is needed to further address it I'll add here. I actually don't know what's relevant to post here. I'm just hoping it isn't some base feature of Windows or some shit because I will throw smash my head into the wall.

I'm not super knowledgeable in this area so this is just me throwing out a possibility. Try specifically running a program in administrator and then seeing if it caches? Could be that wherever the data is saved you don't have default access to modify, even if you're on an admin account. Like my account is the admin on this computer but unless I run this chat program I have as administrator, it won't log any data to its folder in Program Files.

Even if it was that for you, though, it's still odd that it's happening with things like web data.

Have you tried using a different web browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc)?

I'm gonna agree with Adus. Sounds like might be a permissions issue. Right click on your user folder and check and make sure that the account you're logged in as has full control on it, as well as being the owner.

You mean the User folder on the Windows drive? In the security tab it says I have full control and all.

I'm wondering if maybe something was done via the Linux setup to make this happen. Which would be annoying as shit.

Okay, I found the browser behavior problem. Private Browsing.

I was never able to see the damn option to disable it because it was hidden underneath Firefox's "History" section in the Privacy options. I always had it set to "never remember history" because I hate leaving my browser history on computers (bad habit from when I was a teen looking at porn I guess). When I set it to custom settings the option I needed finally appeared. So yeah there's that. I didn't know private browsing was really a thing. Neat for a work environment though. Browse porn as much as you want while at work!

But okay resolved. I dunno about the MMO behavior, maybe it was never meant to permanently store the data it loads every time I log on. But whatever.
