    Dear Abbymatter,

I need to write an analytical paper on Beowulf. What should it be about?

No, that's what they'll be expecting.

Do it on the movie Hackers.

Thanks. That really helps narrow it down, buddy.

I actually already made up my mind. It's a relatively short one, so I should be able to milk my "Beowulf is actually a Pagan Deity of Destruction and all of the Christian nonsense was added later" theory and meet the page requirement.

Mine in high school was based on Tolkein's translation, so... there's one angle.

I was going to do comparisons between Tolkein's writings and Beowulf (the fairly dark setting, the dual nature of having both Pagan and Christian influences, the frailty of man being a major theme), but someone else already did that, and this idea's more fun.

    Dear Abbymatter,

I need to write an analytical paper on Beowulf. What should it be about?

i'd suggest looking at modern day subversions and remakes and adaptations

Gaiman's Beowolf, Monarch of the Glen, so on

Gaiman's Beowulf was the CGI movie that came out a few years back, right?

    it was
he also did a sequel novella to American Gods that semi-adapted Beowolf

Huh. I'll have to check all of that out.

I know my professor was very keen on this book, and was all but advertising it. It's kind of fascinating how much stuff surrounds this legend we know relatively little about.

Do you know about the 13th Warrior starring Antonio Banderas?

That movie is Beowulf. It's based on a book, and the author readily admits it is Beowulf.

For all I know it's a former student of hers

She's basically a kindly grandmother to everyone in her class

This paper I'm writing? I've gotten like 3 extensions from its original due date, no questions asked!

    She's the best.

The book is Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton.

    The movie is better.

yeah, I definitely recommend checking it out

it's actually a really good straight adaptation that at the same time subverts the original story

That is a pretty solid list, Anti.

I'd put Turtwig a lot higher.

But Gen 1's in the top 5 is totally right.

I never evolved my pokemon until they learned all their moves.

Yeah they get better stats if you evolve early, but then you got a stupidly long grind to get hydro cannon or hyper beam or what have you.

    Patience pays off.

There is this amazing place in Bluff Dale that gave my wife and I a sample of their chicken and waffles with a spicy jalapeno syrup and I would kill someone for more right now. Their menu changes though and so I don't know if they currently offer it but if you're ever in the area I'd recommend swinging by.
