Find the time eight and a half hours forwards from this post, to the closest hour. The first deadline is 24 hours after that. The next deadline is 24 hours after the first, and so on.
Also, are we limiting correspondance to email or can we use IM, etc.?
As for retreating, I don't really have any experience, however if we don't use conditionals, I don't think another entire 24 hours would be needed - something shorter could be used as retreats are not meant to be discussed anyway (at least according to the rules).
In the interests of fairness I suggest you limit your correspondance to email and this thread.
The problem with retreating is that it would need to be resolved shortly after I worked out the effects of the turn, which is during the small hours of the morning for most of the players.

Good point; well, I'm in favor of trying the conditional retreats and if something goes horribly wrong, we can always try something else.

So, is anyone else checking their inbox every three minutes or is that just me?
edit: That would probably work a lot better on a grey background.
Essentially; GMail auto-refreshes so I just have it open on another Firefox tab - if I get a mail, when I happen to glance over I see the "(1)" or whatever.

Orders are sent. I do hate how I'm the only power that can't immediately start seizing territory on the first turn, but such is life on the grand Island.
Edit: Okay, Italy is in the same boat, so nevermind.
So far I think I've had the most fun competing with another player to see how many period slang terms for another power we can come up with.
Spring, 1901. The Italian countryside. Peace reigns as these simple folk go about their daily lives, farming, trading, living life to its fullest. However, soon, a wave of discontent washes over them. The entire country looks at each other and realizes, WE should be the kings of the earth. The spirit and glory of Rome at its height rises up in their bellies, and ignites a fire that spurs them on. They take their ploughshares and forge them into swords! ITALY! Arise, and meet your glory!
The Turkish centers of industrial production have roared to life, pumping out arms for the newly raised armies and fleets of the Turkish Empire. Turkey calls on all able-bodied citizens to serve - tensions are rising across Europe and we must face agression and would-be subjugators with a strong will!
The Turks remind the other great powers of Europe that our country is not unreasonable and lends an open ear to those who have something to say.
Updated'd. In answer to your questions, the deadline remains 9 a.m. UTC regardless of what time the update is made.

Well, the only person who did exactly what I thought they would was Turkey. This may require readjustment of my master plan.
For reference, I assumed you guys would be more aggressive, ya pansies.

Yes the first turn was not to aggressive, but I see a lot of preperation for assualts next turn. I'm guessing this game is going to turn violent fast. I'm more curious at where the first betraryls will strike, especially due to the fact I don't know who is allied with whom. Does France's unguarded border with Germany mean they are allies, or does it mean the Krauts are going to Blitzkrieg a war early?

As a note, the forum runs on whatever time you tell it to run on. :P
Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but we're talking Wed. September 27 at 5 a.m. EDT, correct?

(Never played before)
I don't know you, SageInARage, Kayne Red Robe, or Neaden in any sense at all.
An intriguing rumor that will do little to fluster the Turks.
EDIT: Let the speculation and rumor-mongering begin!

Uh oh, does this mean that someone's state secrets have been given away?!
Yeah that's not good at all.
Question, why do some of the accounts show like "Emperor x of y" and others just show the standard e-mail address?
Edit: Here's the standard of Russia I had sitting around if you want to use it Neaden.
I´d like to see you all pulling your strategems and betraying one another.
A friend of mine (shortly before our first game of Diplomacy) said:
It´s a game you play with people you either know well or don´t see ever again.
also anyone who sent me gmails got a reply

Germany's industries spring to life, in order to produce... things with purely civilian applications.
War? What? Germans hate war. We're pacifists. Always have been.
For reference, I assumed you guys would be more aggressive, ya pansies.
As for aggressive, though, Italy and France look like they have some border tension to deal with...
Lucky for you!
