Same reason I heard that some Canadian shops are going to do a thing (I think. I half remember the CBC mentioning it last week). Because money.

Honestly, I played soccer with a teammate tonight who told me they had people lined up for Red Thursday. WTF?!

I assume red is for blood? Isn't that what the holiday season is all about: trampling your fellow man?

I'm guessing someone thought of this idea while throwing cards into a hat.

Looked at the cards and realized that they also had RED cards and should probably find a way to capitalize on that.

So is Red Thursday the new name for Thanksgiving? It certainly has more of a Bruce-Willis-movie feel to it.

    God damn useless fucking day.

It started with a reporter having called to get a statement from our side of a claim that we might be denying thousands in entitlements owing to a software bug. My software bug. In a completely nonsensical and technically improbable manner. Unless, you know, the clients in question were using the computer in a lightning storm or during a solar flare or in an unshielded particle accelerator or some similarly electronically unstable location.

But it comes via the fucking media so off we go to investigate it, you know, dropping all those real problems needing assistance and investigation of claims coming in via the actual helpdesk and the like to chase after this wild goose which is probably just some snot-nosed 19 year old trying to cover for the fact he didn't put an application in on time.

And that was really only the first couple of hours. It really only got worse from there.

One of those days where you wonder why I bothered even going in at all.

Most of the media is made up of silly geese. Like really silly. I think I mentioned the time they asked if a rather large fire had smoke and flames. Yes, now I have actual work to do like trying to monitor command and answering any requests they need.

  • Brovid HasselsmofBrovid Hasselsmof [Growling historic on the fury road] Registered User regular
Well we know there's no smoke without fire

But I don't think we've ever truly clarified whether or not there's fire without flames.

    I made it.

Black Friday sucked so hard though, but not for the reasons I expected.

From 2 to 7 there were a total of 9 customers.

I have no idea how I managed to stay awake.

So how much do you estimate that cost your company, including advertising? :D

I went to the nearby mall around seven and it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. I dunno if I missed the rush or what.

At work for 12 hours today, but it's not a retail job. Also, almost no one is here. Could be worse.

Out of about 250 people that work on my floor approximately 20 are here today. It is going to be very hard for me to be motivated enough to get anything done. Also they better let me go home early since the accounting department got today off.

Out of the several hundred if not thousand of people who work here approximately 50 are here today. The building is actually colder due to the lack of body heat. I insisted the chill was from the lack of officers blowing hot air. I'm plenty motivated to get things done, the problem is that there is nothing TO get done as nobody is at work.

Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.

    Build a fire.

Fires cause smoke, and smoke is only authorized in a little glass walled shack 100 ft from the building. It's even colder there.

Well hello. I evidently won the employee of the month award for my team due to a lot of technical reporting I've been doing. That goes nicely with the employee of the month award I got for my organization a couple of months ago. Not bad for six months in the department.

Set the gazebo on fire. There will be no witnesses but it will be clear that next time you fifty should be released.

Apparently some shops over here are having Black Friday sales.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving. Noone has the day off. It's just a regular damn friday.

Why would they think this is a good idea?

In Canada we do the same damned thing. Started last year, or maybe the year before. It's puzzling.

The reason why we have those sales in Canada are because the vast majority of Canadians live within driving distance of the U.S. border, and as a whole we generally reallly like to travel to the states to do our shopping.
Canadian retailers don't like that, and I'm guessing it's really hurting their bottom line, so they try and offer sales and deals to tempt people to stay here and shop.
    They're never as good.

I'm a "senior network engineer", though I do very little work with WAN. My boss keeps piling responsibilities on me and placing me on-call for other groups furing the evening. I was about to complain when I got a surprise raise out of the blue, along with some kind of "market adjustment", which I assume deals with local cost of living and inflation. It was $2,300 USD for the adjustment, plus a $1,400 raise.

So I am biting my tongue for now. But still, I feel overwhelmed at times.

I awesomed that because based on your previous post on the subject I assume this is a good thing. But if that "thrilling" was sarcastic, please disregard my awesome and imagine it is a bro instead.

it is awesome and I am happy about it, but the 'thrilling' was ironic because really, getting to do more work isn't shit you should be excited about. ... unless it's incredibly cool work I guess? which it is. oh shit we might be coming round to non-sarcastic again.
