Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters has grown on me. I like the art but I thought it was going to be another post-modern take on superheroes, making them all gritty and political. It actually seems to be doing the opposite of that, taking characters stuck in politics and grit and making them heroes again.

    oh man

It was a good week for the Ultimate Universe.

I normally just read them in the store but I had to pick up USM 100 and Ultimates. Aunt May is looking mega creepy.

Daredevil was okay this week. The Poker bit was pretty cool.

Eternals is really starting to get on my nerves. I might have to re-read this one. The art is still totally worth it.

Frontline was badass. Reed's right, Speedball has changed... into a complete badass! Also, Ben Urich is the best fictional reporter ever.

I also picked up Amazing Spider-Man even though I got a scanned copy earlier this week. It really sets up the next issue, doesn't it?

edit - oh shit did I miss Invincible? Goddamn it.

I haven't bought the most recent issue yet. I'll pick it up tomorrow, perhaps more eagerly than I normally would now that there's an endorsement.

Yeah, last issue was kind of a waste except for the revelation that

Mini-reviews for what I've read so far. Letter/number grades annoy me, so I'll say :), :|, or :( to reading it

52 Week #21 - Making the story interesting. Surprising: Seeing Steel less than four weeks after his last appearance! More surprising: DC recognizing that Impulse existed! :)

    Batman #657- Holy crap. :)

Blue Beetle #7- You can tell that Giffen left. The writing is just...eh. The art on the flashbacks was all right. I mean, I like the style, but it only worked well for Blue Beetle, all of the other heroes looked hella weird. :(

Justice League Of America #2- Sets up a story for each hero. No real action or anything, all just story. Wasn't bad. Ed Benes tries his best to look like Michael Turner, which sucks :)

Supergirl #10- Supergirl tries a secret identity. The pacing is really weird in the issue, and the art is so-so. Kara and Wonder Girl look exactly the same. Supergirl tries to make friends with a fat chick. :|

Teen Titans #39- Shows off some of the Titans of the last year (Zatarra, Miss Martian, and Bombshell). Art is pretty good, as it's the only book that actually makes Robin look like he's 17/18 and not 12. :)

reviews of the other stuff when I read it

I kinda felt a little let down by the last issue, too. They thrust the new characters in with no introductions and very little actually happened, but issue 7 needed issue 6, so I'm okay with it.

The topic of your spoiler gets addressed, somewhat. (not necessarily one way or the other)

Ultimates 12 was underwhelming to me, felt like it was jumping around too much to do anything really well. It'll probably read better in trade, when I remember what happened last issue. I did really like Hank Pym's contribution, though. [spoiler:f5bc0efc08]Yeah, I was totally infiltrating the bad guys, dudes. I swear! It's not just because we were losing![/spoiler:f5bc0efc08]

Im going to agree with you on your :| rating. Supergirl, ever since the OYL shift, still has not had a definite place in the DCU, which hurts the book, not to mention Ian Churchill's artwork, which isn't right for this book. Supergirl and Wonder Girl are supposed to be what, sixteen? Yet he draws them like damn pornstars..which isn't too bad..sometimes..

I didn't think it was terrible, but I have pretty low standards.

Heroes for Hire was pretty good, and I'm wondering if they're going to resolve the cliffhanger in Civil War or Heroes for Hire itself.

In other news, this week's Captain America and Cable and Deadpool are probably my favorite tie-ins so far. I mean, damn.

Walking Dead TP Vol. 5: Best Defense-$12.99

FUCK. This is a terrible week for me. Not only am I three books away from my monthly budget, but my wife's birthday is in two days, so I might not even be able to get those three. :( Looks like almost all of that list is getting pushed back a couple of weeks (or months, even).

On the upside, if I can actually find that Walking Dead TPB, I'm going to surprise the hell out of my wife (who is a huge fan of the book) with it on Saturday. She's still thinking it comes out in December. :^:

I see a lot of people not reading She-Hulk. Is there something you guys don't like about it?
I have to say, it's consistently the best book I read any week it comes out, and this week's issue had a kick-ass retcon of the sort that makes sense, unlike Illuminati, or the Max Lord thing. As I gradually shorten the list of writers I can stand enough to read books by, Dan Slott's standing out as about the best Marvel writer working.

Honestly... I usually don't give derivative heroes much of a chance. Nothing personal, just a bias I have. Supergirl, She-Hulk... blah blah blah... the only one I ever enjoyed was Superboy's run on Teen Titans. Regardless, I'm sure it's a great book (but if you are arguing it's the most consistently good, then you clearly aren't reading X-Factor) but just not something I'm into...

Other than the name and the powers though, there's nothing remotely similar between Hulk and She-Hulk.

Yeah, She-Hulk had an awesome Thanos revelation in it this week. Everyone should buy this book.

I do read X-Factor, and you're right, they're neck-and-neck in quality. A shame people are missing it, is all.

Like I said, it wasn't a bias based even remotely on reality. And hell, she fucked Juggernaut, so she already has high marks in my book. I collect too many books as is, and it just doesn't appeal to me very much.

Way back in one of the X-Men books... when she was his lawyer after he became a good guy.

    Edit: Okay, Uncanny X-Men 435-436
