Dude, you're gonna lose this conversation because Adventure Time exists.
Not all the kids shows today are crap. I find myself watching Kick Buttowski more than I'd like to admit. Never got into Adventure Time because I'm lost as to who is who but it doesn't look too bad.
"We're resetting," she said. "We're literally just resetting the table so we can bring it to more people, so we can use our collective Viacom reach in a broader way."
Man I can't wait for them to show up at my house with a rebooted table.
There is marketing speak, which I am fluent in, and then there is this, which is what interns get fired for.
Zero Punctuation is funny but 90% of the time I can't agree with him.
I can't even bother with him anymore after he shat all over TLoU. Goes against his love of HL2 and Silent Hill 2 in almost every way.
What?
I'm not quite sure what he's arguing with those games but he does have a strong level of hypocrisy in is reviews along with often focusing on just the bad for humor but still referring to himself as a critic.

Can you give some examples? Those games are pretty different from each other.
Character, atmosphere, combat. He forgives SH2's shitty combat but claims TLoU has too much, says nothing of how good it is, and says nothing of the outstanding atmosphere. Someone disliking TLoU is fine even if it's baffling to me, but the reasons he gives are rooted in misunderstanding and bullshit.
Those games are both like a decade old though. Game design marches on.
Yet game design has by and large only gotten dumber and catered more to the lowest common denominator. TLoU is a step up, gameplay wise, but almost a revolution narratively.
I'm not sure what step of of gameplay you saw with TLoU, it was like Metal Gear or Manhunt, minus the cool toys and/or the witty banner of your prey enemies. I haven't seen anything in TLoU, game play wise, I didn't see with my PS2 games.
There are some criticisms that can fairly be leveled at the game, however.
The same can be said of Bioshock Infinite. I find it kind of amusing that an attempt to address one of gaming's most hated features, the escort mission, can itself become a new problem. I don't disagree, but still.
Like, most of the review was about how the game was kind of up it's own ass and that's bad, but then at the end he's all "but it's nice to be up in the ass, it's kind of warm and safe".
Like wise his Red Dead Redemption review. He spends the entire review complaining about everthing but the atmosphere then mentions at the end that the writings great. It made #3 in his game of the year countdown.

The scavenging + assembling of items made every moment matter. The sound effects, the AI, the enemy's voice acting. Nothing truly new but the best kind of combat in the genre yet, it felt authentic and not meaningless.

Not really, I just assembled eveything before fights and often didn't have to use healthkits because food was instant healing and usually well supplied. Also, the A.I was pretty average, bordering on dumb from time to time. Oh, and parts of the plot were pretty trope or taken from the walking dead, ending was good though.

Was it a terrible year? The game wasn't bad but I felt lost after I hit Mexico. Kinda did with Undead Nightmare too until I when back and saw that I was 20 minutes away from beating the game.

Scavenging has been in video games for years now (and I found until end game that I usually had max items and I was forced to leave stuff behind because I didn't have room, then suddenly I was using all my items to get through that one area with the 2 Bloaters and I didn't have enough stuff.) The AI was about as smart as the enemies in Manhunt, Dishonored, and Batman Arkham Series (used the same tactics from those games to get around most of the human NPCs and the basic throw something to make noise over there tactic against the Infected). Enemy voice acting wasn't amazing either and there where times where I caught two guys with the same voice talking to each other. Combat felt like, to me at least, a bit of blind luck, especially as I died multiple times at that one area where you and that crazy guy have to fight a group of Infected, including a Clicker who seems to spawn behind you. Stealth was much of the same as any other game, and I was pissed off about the light which flickered and you had to shake the controller to get it to work. Fuck that shit. Use the super sound thing and you'll never need it. Plus, those Runners didn't respond to the light anyhow. Those seem like the guys who would, since they see you.
I don't understand why everyone wants to hold this game up as the crowning achievement of the Stealth Action Adventure game when it was outclassed by Tomb Raider's game play this year and Dishonored's everything from last year, imo, and showed the same ideas from other games of the genre, just with a bit of graphic polish and a story that everyone else found great but I found empty of purpose.
Nope, I can think of better things to do. If you didn't like it it's not my job to convince you otherwise. Instead I can just chuckle and nod my head at people who call it a PS2 game or think the ending has no purpose.
Whatever then, no reason to debate people with bad taste.
I'm sorry you feel this way but I've only stated my personal experience and opinions of a game. If you liked it, fine. I shouldn't be hindering your enjoyment of it. But when someone makes a statement that I disagree with, I'll say what I believe. It's up to you to either 1) Prove me wrong or 2) Take my opinions with the grain of salt you should and carry on. If you get hurt over it, then that's on you.
Unsurprisingly, this thread quickly goes downhill once the VGAs end. I'm just going to save us all a lot of heartache and give this thread the Ol' Yeller Treatment.
