When people talk about the new economy it is due to a moves away from the industrial production based economies.

In the US you hear a lot of rhetoric of training people for the jobs of tomorrow. This is because of the traditional jobs which were entrance to the middle class are disappearing and leaving skilled jobs which are requiring more specific skills (Programming, computer infrastructure work for example) and unskilled which are mostly lower paying service jobs.

This shift already occurred in a lot of place but a lot of places try to implement policies which would help with the previous economy of mass mobilization of unskilled workers for production is kind of gone. Because of that there has to be a shift in policy and how we approach welfare and presenting ways to deal with what will probably be an increasing number of unemployed who lack the skills that are needed and that there will probably be fewer people needed to do such jobs.

@Ronya mentioned something earlier today similar about establishing a welfare system that supports 10% or more of the working age population is important.

And no worries on the conclusions, I wrote it like I was writing an initial thoughts for a paper. Your assumptions are as important as your conclusions.

Also remove your @'s mate. ;)

    I cite drunken privilege.

Thanks for the response though. I take your point about what you are trying to achieve in the post.

Assumptions are of course important but should be in measure to your stated audience, imo. I'd sort of assumed what you'd said would be accepted as common knowledge by your desired audience.

I do apologise though, I'm a bit drunk and what you say is interesting but I'm sort in the mood for new ideas or conclusions and frankly being a bit silly.

With which, I collapse to rest

Those are both things they are intent on adding! There already exist some crazy bosses already, and they're working on both having some hand-crafted main storyline quests and loads of procedurally generated quests that you can chance upon when you find a city.

Cleanup that massive quote tree holy shit.

It is more I see it never passing without that. But I do not think it would be nearly as effective with out some sort of CoL adjustment in the US. It is a detail that is like the fucking devil's christmas list.

I just don't see it functioning for those dense urban areas without some sort of CoL adjustment.

But say you took the median basic income for the US and just doled that out it might work but the effects in some of the major densely populated areas like the East Coast and Cali would have significantly reduce returns.

The best thing in Spleunky is if you get knocked into the bottomless ice pits while you are gliding with a cape.

Gives you a chance to think about what you've done.

I am running late for my work Christmas party. Probably because it is my work Christmas party....

I should go though, because my boss always takes us to expensive restaraunts and pays for the bill.

    But blehhhh

Like right now there are tiered raid bosses to access the next level of equipment, and "boss" versions of normal monsters.

Not that Starbound is necessarily anything like this because I haven't even played it

But I hate when I like the barebones Beta version of something better than the finished product once they've added all the crap they pulled out of their butts to make it "better"

Also Starbound is probably one of the best indie games I've ever played, in my opinion. It just aces the feel of exploration.

Right now it mostly suffers from a lack of things to do other than aimlessly explore. In particular, until they have more of the "homeworld" content established (they plan to add things like NPCs and quest givers moving onto your planet) there's just very little reason to ever settle down and build something. Also, since you have so little space on your ship (they plan to solve this with ship upgrades), there's not much opportunity to build anything cool except for a few little display pieces to impress your friends. This is a real shame on account of how much awesome stuff they give you to build with.

That all said, there is no end to the joy you can get from aimlessly exploring. It is commonly the trend that just when you're beginning to think you've seen everything worthwhile there is to see, you stumble upon an ancient tomb/secret laboratory/dystopian city that you had no idea existed in the game.

    Winky on
