It's the only reason why the ??? Combined with the "unknown tone" still scares the shit out of me.

    Dual Destinies spoilers
I actually had overcome my fear of Oldbag, until they mentioned a female witness in the last case, thank god that wasn't her.

... Oh no, I have a new location to go to in the DLC case, that's going to weigh on me

the idea that blackquill is such a good prosecutor they have to let him keep on prosecuting even after he's been convicted of murder is as far as i am concerned an all-time phoenix wright high
granted that's not what's actually going on

    it's still great

Black quill being a prosecutor broke the internalized "rules" for how their messed up world works.

Phoenix being disbarred is, if anything, less congruous with internalized Ace Attorney rules than Blackquill not getting disbarred. Because the internalized rules allow Phoenix to submit totally unverified evidence that he just so happens to have independently discovered all the time even though that should be super-illegal in all circumstances. If the court is that lenient, it doesn't make much sense for him to be disbarred because his hopelessly unverifiable evidence happened to have been forged by somebody else without his knowledge one time. There's no established precedent over whether or not prosecutors get disbarred for committing crimes not related to lawyering (other than common sense, but that's a wash in Ace Attorney land).

Phew. I finally finished DD and can at last come to this thread without worrying about spoilers..

Non-spoiler discussion: I think the backgrounds are some of the best use of 3D I've seen on the 3ds yet -- I spent a fair while in case 2 just looking at the little bits of animation, so pretty, and they managed to get enough depth to be 3d without making my eyes hurt. (also, the pans around the courtroom look pretty cool).

It was poetic justice. PW always flew by the seat of his pants, but he could verify his evidence one way or the other. This was evidence that had just been handed to him out of the blue, not evidence he had found. It makes perfect sense why he got disbarred for trying to introduce it.

    Spoiler-y discussion:
General -- it's neat seeing the 3d models from multiple directions and how well they match to the sprite versions. Also cool when
the various people we've only seen from the side are on the stand and we see them face-on.

Case 5. Maybe it's just because it's freshest in my head, but the case 4 -> case 5 transition and the way it all plays out is one of my favorite bits so far; there's a lot of awesome setup that really pays off in the end.
Pearls? Feh, I don't care about her, if you're going to bring someone back, bring Edgeworth.
    .
    about one minute later
    .
    Oh, hell YES.
I only worked out it was Fullbright about three or four lines of dialog ahead of the characters, embarrassingly -- I'd even gone through everyone in my head before to try and work out who it could be, but forgot that he was there 7 years ago so had eliminated him and thought they'd be about to pull a new character out of thin air or something.
    Finale:
When ??? took the mask off and it was Starbuck underneath, I was totally thrown off and started thinking "wait, did we ever see Starbuck and Fullbright at the same time? This is the most insane twist I have seen yet", until it turned out to just be a second mask. Phoenix -vs- Phoenix? was pretty awesome.

And I liked how in retrospect, as Fullbright, he'd always been over-emoting to a ridiculous extent.
I was totally hoping, under all the masks, it would be Larry Butz.
    Favorite moment from cases 4/5:
    Blackquill: Haaannnnnngggghhhh..

    Second favorite moment:
When ??? just gives up trying to keep his spoken emotions in line with his physically expressed emotions to a pretty sarcastic extent

Case 4: I actually replayed the end of case 1 to see if I'd missed anything from Tonate that would give more background as to what had been going on, because I'd forgotten that he was just selling bomb pieces to make money.

    Case 2:
I was initially pretty confused by how similarly-shaped Fullbright and L'Belle's heads were..
End credits, Filch claims to be an alderman -- I thought "hey, nice work, guy!", then..

This game was a lot better with the mystery element. Especially compared to the first game sandbagging and handholding you all the time, the system to allow you to ask for help and be able to proceed without it is fantastic.

If you loved the environments then the DLC case has some very nice ones.

    Justice for All, case 2-1:
Hah, Amnesia! The classic tactic to have a tutorial in sequels.

Hmm, "Victim wrote this name ergo they are guilty" again. It would be a helluva twist if that was played straight.

Maybe it's because I'm coming off AA1, but the Trial Music isn't very good, especially "Pursuit".

I just got to the bit with the two different cutscenes for the imagined versions of the theme song...

Just finished the DLC, and now there is no more Phoenix Wright for me unless I go back and replay the originals, boo.

Interesting snippet from a bit of dialogue where Athena says (something like) "Phoenix helped me out when I got into trouble in Europe", which hopefully means that case will be coming out as more DLC. And
    THE DISSIN' OF PHOENIX WRIGHT

is definitely one of my favourite final-confrontation-with-the-bad-guy sequences.

Okay, this is twice now that I've presented evidence on a specific statement and been given a penalty, only to find out later that it was the correct thing to do (from a guide or the consult option), and only then it works. Happened on case 3 and now case 4.
Presenting the ashes of a flag for "what moved the blood" and presenting the bomb report on the statement about taking the elevator.
Both times it was my first choice of evidence and statements, and both times it said no and then worked later. Maybe I'm pressing the button in a weird way that taps one of the other evidence icons before the objection triggers? This has never happened in any other Ace Attorney game I've played. Really frustrating.

edit: On a brighter note, the new Miiverse update lets you post screenshots. Just pause the game and go to the Miiverse page for the game, and you'll get an option to include the top or bottom screen from the paused game. I wish that had been an option a little earlier, there were a lot of great out-of-context moments I wish I had captured. Like Trucy talking about fresh cookies.

every time trucy refers to phoenix as her daddy i cringe

there's a part early in the game where she talks about filling her panties for her daddy and i'm just like, okay, do the japanese really not pick up on this stuff

While I agree that the panty jokes are dumb and creepy, I really don't see the issue with her calling Phoenix "daddy."

Like, he adopted her. That is legally what he is to her.

I really love how Phoenix has grown from the start of the series. It feels right for him to be a father/boss.

It's still way too jarring for me. Like, phoenix grew through games 1-3, but game 4 and 5 he's just become a boss all of a sudden without enough in between.

Also does the game become more of a "Game" at some point? I'm almost done w/case 3, and it feels like the game's just taking my hand and leading me around way more than past games.

    Finished the DLC case

    Big Spoilers
I think I was slightly spoiled on the two orcas thing before I started the case (and the whole 'Orla/Ora' thing from the start raised an eyebrow), but 'THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT ORCAS' was still a great moment, god I love Resonance of the Synapses sections. I think this is also the first case where the victim's death was accidental (3-4 still involves stabbing) and Rimes is rehabilitated rather than ambiguously given the death penalty. And his breakdown was great, too.

Overall I quite enjoyed it. I feel like less people got the DLC, is that the case? (Obviously don't quote this post because of the spoilers)

    So Case 5 stuff.
Everyone's been saying they thought it was Fulbright due to process of elimination. But until Athena says it was a man that she stabbed, there is definitely one other suspect involved with everything.

I was sure it was going to be Juniper in the ultra twist.

I know that you have the psych profile by that point, and Athena had already done her thing on Juniper, but I figured she could've been faking the emotions, since they didn't say he couldn't feel emotions until you're already cross-examining him.
