Getting pretty close to finishing the mechanics for Phoenix Wright. Anyone want to give it a look, make sure I'm not going too crazy (Or crazy enough) with it?

You might want to check in with @MrBlarney , afterall he did Ace Attorney: Turnabout Phalla. He might have some good insights

I remember that game. Mine is tiny bit ambitious in a different direction and a few hairs closer to the source material.

Australian Christmas phalla has ended with a Vegemite cult & Nutcracker Bodyguard victory, just so that's official-ish.

    Who's got next?

Just had an idea for Chemistry mafia, where you're assigned a semi-random element, and the powers you get are linked to which other elements you choose to bond with each night, forming chemical compounds. If you try to bond with something in a way that doesn't work, nothing happens.

    Mafia are noble gasses.

    Hold on guys.

    This is a big one.

Just give the mafia a list of the elements that weren't used. And don't tell people what compound they make, just what power they get as a result. Boom problem solved.

You clearly need to decide whether you are doing the typical forming a new compound chemical bonding only or stuff like h-bonding, polar-nonpolar interactions as well.

Also, the soft networking chat of such a game would be amazing.

    "I'm carbon, baby.

I can bond whatever way you need :winky:"

The real winner of that phalla will be the team that manages to form THC or an amphetamine.

This is the key bit - assuming the mafia behave like noble gases, they will refuse to bond with almost everyone, while their claimed elements will probably have worked

esit: For example, are there even any Noble gas compounds not involving F or O? Other than HeH+

Well, I didn't put a ton of though into it. What if instead of mafia being noble gasses, mafia were Flourine, Oxygen, Chlorine and such, using their electronegativity to steal unsuspecting atoms electrons.

And you got me Baidol, noble gases technically make compounds. Except neon. Everyone's neon, nobody wins.

If I did another phalla, would people be more interested in the Harbinger universe, the Knights of Arcadia universe, or some new setting?

Hell, would people even be interested in me doing a phalla? Considering how much teeth pulling it was to fill my last one, I'm starting to doubt its popularity.

The phalla player pool has declined and designing a phalla of size 50 would be ambitious. You would probably have no problem with one of size 30, maybe 40.

I think this is more a function of us doing more minis at the moment. I'm strongly of the opinion that if you build it, they will come. We ended up with 60 for Blarney's DDS. That was the ONLY main that's been run in the last three months. If the phalla player pool is declining, I think it has as much to do with lack of opportunity as it does lack of interest.

Please host a main, Munkus. I bet we could attract more people back to phalla specifically because you did a main.

Honestly don't see why there needs to be caps. Sure you could shoot for low numbers but being able to scale upwards would help to keep from people being left out.

Also theres no harm in running less complicated phallas and inviting new blood into it.

  • Options
SaberOverEasySaberOverEasy Info Broker Registered User regular
Player caps tend to be used to help the host balance a game. Scaling certainly can be done, but it's not always as easy as it seems. That being said, having more games in the 35-40 player range would not be a bad thing at this point. Or getting more concurrently running minis.

The real bottleneck right now isn't players so much as hosts. Creating an hosting a game is a huge time expense, even for relatively simple games. Finding ways to reduce that, either with partners or something else, would go a long way to getting more games running.

I could have went higher with my game - but sign ups slowed down.

I think a while back we ran into a problem filling minis - and folks signed up that didn't actually have the time to play leading to quiet games.

Inactive slow games discourage hosts from hosting more - sad times cycle.

My personal opinion is that certain hosts and certain genres will always draw full games.

Munkus, Infidel, Blarney, Obi, etc as hosts and Vampire, Star Wars, DnD, etc for games.

I chalk my full mains up to genre rather than hosting ability.

Also, if you @ them, they will come.

Yeah, this isn't right even a little bit. You are clearly in the top rank of hosts; I think even though you don't always have the complexity of Obi's games or the ridiculous polish of Blarnfidel and to some extent the INANTP games, your integration of theme and mechanics is probably the very best. You should host more games.

The only reason my game got 60 players was because of a one-day extension of the signup period and a massive '@' call onto previous Phalla players to double the signup count. Otherwise, it would have been in the 30 range that other games have been getting. So yes, the regular player base of Phalla games has been shrinking in recent times. Having games occurring more regularly should help with that a little bit, since interest will be continuous if there's always a game going on.

I am so busy at work I don't even really play anymore.

Blame the death of phalla on me!

(Ok not really, but it would be nice to play/host...)

@Assuran what happened to discussing a game? :) If I co-host/code for a main, I could manage that time maybe and can justify it since (a) it should get a good sized main rolling and (b) it means I work on my reusable framework for more people to host statblock games.
