I had the idea to create a world-building thread, where the people of the forum can get together and create a campaign setting together. I posted this idea in the “Talk about this forum†sticky for advice, and someone came up with the idea of an in character world building thread, where the posters play as deities creating the world. The general consensus was that this would be awesome.
So, the Fish of the Universe has laid the Divine Caviar, and from it erupts the multitudinous gods. Each, seizing a scale from the Fish of the Universe, determines his or her sphere of influence. Domains start out broad and, as the world comes into form and portfolios start to overlap, gods can give up broad but ineffectual influence for a narrower domain over which they will have greater control and freedom of design.
I, seizing the brain of the Fish, take the role of overdeity; I will not interfere in the creation process except to resolve disputes between gods. Each player must name his or her domain as they seize a scale, and then set about creating a campaign setting from scratch - out of the void of the Fish.
This is either going to succeed or fail terribly.
Deities:
Orik picked the eyes, taking destructive energy.
Salt picked rough scales, taking elemental earth; he also holds hatred and grudges.
Scooter took the fins, taking travel and speed.
Karilmat picked the heart, for creative thought and emotion.
Aileron picked the gills, taking air.
SageinaRage picked a scale from above the eyes, taking contradiction, puzzles and riddles.
Rose took picked the loins, taking life.
Sander picked a scale from the belly, taking light.
Throngrarth picked a tooth, taking aggression, battle and war, and holds the bladder for water.
Cosmic picked the tongue, taking speech.
Gorgrol took the bones and the soul, choosing death, magic and greed.
Elbonian picked the stomach, taking control over the hearth.
Rankenphile picks the swim bladder, becoming keeper of balance.
Trenog chose the tail, taking fate.
Spi takes a dorsal spine, choosing shadows.
Devryguy takes the softest scale, for mercy and humanity.
Seebor takes the parasites, choosing pestilence and poison.
Soup chose the flesh of the fish, taking food.
Pil stole part of everyone else's stuff, for treachery.
Anonymous picked the veins and became the angel of death.
Shamus took a piece of the fish really late, and became god of sleep.
Robo picked the last piece of the fish, symbolising hope.
Wezil constructed his own scale, taking the domain of craftsmanship and law.
Horshuu picked the ear stone, taking solitude and forgetfulness.
Ǽther took nothing and is god of nothing, however that works.
Duo, born out of Orik's creation of heat and flame and is god of the same.
Thorpe, knowledge and logic.
Utsan, the moon and stars.
Anaximander, peace.

We'll also probably want a point at which open applications are closed and people have to apply with a portfolio in mind earlier on (IC, this is when the fish is, well, looted to nothingness, and most if not all new deities would end up taking a portfolio away from a broader deity.)

However *ahem* Do not fret, Lord of Stone, I have no power in your realm. You may have all of the Natural stone and rcok and the such while I get the naturally occuring (or smelted) metals? Does this sound agreeable?.
I shall take the Tounge, claiming the realm of Speech and all crafts that utilize it.

The only ones that aren't already taken are the bones, if i'm not mistaken.
Neither the eyes, bones, soul, death, or magic have been taken. I missed the gills in the post, but the rest are fine.
Are you the God of Lies and Deciet now? Would you besmirch your brother so?

No, there is no arguement. The un-named and amorphorus energy has been claimed and formed, made strong and whole in purpose and body. He is not gone, he is simply being used as many of our aspects will be used by others.
And the Light shone upon Gorgrol, and it became clear to all what had been done. For the first time, something living was made unliving, and the Light shone ill upon the first decay in eternity. And while many were content with the tiniest of pieces of the Divine Fish, Gorgrol took far greater a share. And the Light saw this avarice, and remembered it forever.

No. The scale is severed and out in the middle of nowhere.
The idea is that a single scale from the Great Fish is large enough to provide an entire world for the mortal races.
