Maybe, but I'm not willing to take that leap again unless it gets put on sale. I even went back last week to the PS3 to see if I was too harsh on it. I played it for a while, and nope, the game was pretty much as bland as I remembered it. But if you want to enjoy pop culture references thrown at you at a break neck speed, you'll enjoy that part of RCR.

I'm surprised it's not been said, but yeah, Nintendo Direct brought the goods:

Steel Diver: Sub Wars, a free-to-play first-person take on the 3DS launch title which features a $9.99 "Premium" mode to unlock more stuff.

    Inazuma Eleven: $19.99 Soccer RPG.

Coming soon are Pokemon Battle Trozei ($7.99), Rusty's Real Deal Baseball (a series of baseball-themed mini-games that's free to play, and you can haggle with Rusty to purchase other games for less money), and Weapon Shop de Omasse, which is coming next week for $7.99 and puts you in charge of running a weapons shop inside of an RPG.

Kirby games have generally been aimed at a younger audience and/or people new to platformers so you should have no trouble getting into it. It's been out in Japan for a month and reviews have been favorable.

eShop related - I just got an email from Nintendo that Best Buy will have the eShop cards on sale for 20% from Feb. 23-March 1. Last time they were on sale I cleaned up and grabbed like $100 worth (which I think at the time also gave you a gift card or something, which is crazy). Good deal if you plan on spending the money anyways like I do (I swear I'm buying all my stuff digital now.. not having to swap disks is the way to go!)

I posted this in the 3DS thread earlier, but Urban Trial Freestyle is still on sale on the eShop for $3.50 until 9 PT tomorrow, and in my opinion it's totally worth it, I got really addicted to it.

It's true that it's technically a knockoff, not made by RedLynx, just someone cashing in on the genre, but I feel like they did a good job here.

There's a review here if you want to know more about it first. I wasn't able to stop playing it though, replaying levels to get all the stars and searching for hidden money. The track creator is surprisingly good too in terms of options.

I forgot I had this game. It's actually pretty fun (since it's pretty much a copy of Guardian Heroes), but it's not as varied as Guardian Heroes in all aspects (moves, backgrounds, enemies, level design). Most of the levels, from what I can recall, you just walk straight to the right. I'd say it's worth 20.

Weapon Shop Omasse is really good at dialog and making fun of RPG tropes.

The forging rhythm mini-game is really straight forward and simple (so far) and doesn't seem to increase in complexity after adding a material or going up to level 2. Polishing weapons is even more simplistic as it's just a few seconds of screen rubbing.

The real star of the show is the conversations between the shopkeeper/blacksmith in training (you), the blacksmith and the customers. After they've rented your weapons, you get to hear how their quest (or lack thereof) is going via the Grindcast.

The Grindcast is basically Twitter. Everything the customers and others say pops up on your screen and the combat shows up as well. You can read single Grindcasts as your doing other stuff or focus on the Grindcast and speed it up, too. Multitasking becomes a little more difficult when you're trying to follow the beat in the forge, but you can go back to the Grindcast and read anything you missed.

I've only played about 2 hours, so hopefully things get more difficult. Or maybe being an RPG weapon shop owner is really this mundane. It is entertaining, though, and it has already made me laugh a few times.

EDIT: Oh, and there's an audience? You get cheers and applause and such frequently during conversations. There's also silly sound effects and some rather basic music to go along with everything.

Weaponshop is extremely worth the $8!

Its fun and the adventurers twitter feed is humorous. One thing to keep in mind when forging a blade is that you dont have to perfectly hammer the outline of the mold. Just tap any available spot on the metal and keep the rythm.

Before firing up Pikmin 3 tonight, I loaded up Punch-Out!! on the WiiU virtual console. I was inspired because I happened to be wearing my Punch-Out!! shirt and wanted my fiancee to play it.

Her first time playing, she mad spam punched herself into a decision loss against Glass Joe. She proved a winner in the rematch, but still was mass spamming attacks. Von Kaiser pummeled her flailing attempts with his jabs and finished her off with "ze upppercuts!" That was the retirement match so I started over and quickly whipped them up for her. After watching me dodge/counter, she finally understood how to play properly.

I handed her the gamepad and let her take on Piston Honda for the belt. She was immediately stunned at how huge his character model was and was wondering how she could topple such a monster. I said to look for his tell, dodge, and counter. She quickly found it and dodged away to a quick knockdown. Everything was going great until his Hurricane Punches flattened her to the mat. The bell sounded ending the first round.

Between rounds she got a pep talk from Doc Louis and some health back. Round 2 was all dodges and counters until he went down twice. He got up on a 1 count, which meant a single Star Punch would put him down no matter his health. She got the star just before the 2:30 mark, when the punch flurry would come again. He threw a hook, she dodged, and unleashed the Star Punch launching him across the ring for a TKO! I've never seen her get so excited and pumped after a victory.

I'm thinking she's ready for Punch-Out!! on the Wii. While I respect the original for it's awesomeness, she doesn't get nostalgic like me and will definitely enjoy the newer version a lot more. Can't wait to watch my little pugilist-specialist take on all comers for the VGBA Championship belt!

Never say never to RPG games

Prague, 24th of February 2014 - Cinemax, an independent studio with more than 40 titles published so far, today officially announced The Keep, an old-school dungeon first person crawler with real-time combat for the Nintendo 3DS handheld system. The Keep will be available in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS this summer.

The idea behind The Keep is very simple, to bring the essence and dark atmosphere of RPGs from the past to a new platform with touch screen based controls for newcomers and fans of the genre alike.

In The Keep you will embark on a quest to explore caves and mines filled with monsters to slain and puzzles to solve underneath and surrounding tower of evil sorcerer. It won't be easy, you will die. A lot!

The Keep is in development for more than 15 months and there is a simple reason for it. Cinemax are trying to pour all their love for old-school games into the game and proving themselves that they were wrong saying after the release of the Inquisitor: "We will never ever make a RPG game ever again!"

        Keep us updated! =)

Renegade is just the worst game. Like a really crappy first try at making River City Ransom.

        Wow.

Even for the WiiU VC that is disappointing.
