Friday night did not go as planned for Frank Giardina.
Around 11:05 p.m., police officers came to his third-floor apartment in Flushing, Queens, to check on a noise complaint someone called in to 311. The officers knocked on the door and, the police said, Mr. Giardina, 49, came to the door with a marijuana pipe in his hand, a telltale odor emanating. When asked about the smell, he replied, “Oh, that’s weed,” according to the officers.
First mistake.
The officers, seeing the pipe, requested his identification to write him a summons, the police said, and Mr. Giardina obliged, inviting the officers into his home while he fetched his ID.
That was a critical second mistake, because, the police said, when the officers entered the apartment, they took a look around and saw something significantly more interesting than a pot pipe: about five pounds of what looked like heroin sitting on the kitchen table.

Well not banging people with STDs is a good way to keep from catching one.
I was reading an English comic book and I need a few translations. 'Toddy' is a snog or a quickie? I thought a toddy was an alcoholic drink. 'Dishy' means beautiful in a showy kind of way, I think. No idea what 'Rimbaud' is.
I have a class that does not have mandatory attendance that I have only been to once, but I have no idea when the mid term is and the teacher won't tell me via e-mail. Grumble grumble
I see there's no homework next week on the schedule so that's a good bet

Hmmm, I'm waffling on the month of gaming thing. I should just sign up!
So a former Palladium writer is kickstarting a game about a post apocalyptic Earth where Breaches have begun allowing things from various dimensions in to harm and maim everyone. Also magic and pre-fall technology. Oh and it has Siembieda's endorsement for now.
So a Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead RPG? Sounds good.
In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence.

haha yes I am this teacher
come to class or don't come, I don't care
but don't expect me to reiterate shit we went over in class if you decided not to show up
(the mid term should have been scheduled on the syllabus really)
Tell me, oh magic [chat] ball, should I watch TD next or start with Breaking Bad?
True Detective.
I second this, only because you will finish it much faster, and you are more likely to be spoiled on it as it is still being freshly discussed round these parts.
Both are excellent choices.
is True Detective completely done now? I heard it was a total of 8 shows and that's it forever?

I feel TD is getting hyperbolized at the moment due to its freshness
It's great but I'm not so quick to throw it in the hall of fame, I felt it stalled out a liiiittle bit down the stretch
maybe i'm streaming terrible dj right now if i am its here

I heard it was supposed to be a kind of anthology series and that the next season would be by different people and follow different people.

I didn't watch it because no HBO.
I believe it's gonna be the same writer but will have a completely different cast and be completely unrelated, except for the fact that it will probably have detectives.

I like this approach because it will hopefully stay fresh and let them get heavy hitter actors because they don't need to commit for years.

i feel like the TORG game was really promising and i'm kind of surprised it A) didn't do better and hasn't been rebooted.
TORG had a bunch of issues. It's a really 90's example of metaplot gone horribly wrong, to the point where most published adventures have the PCs as audience for anything interesting/important. It also suffered from rule creep, where supplements would introduce major changes to rules systems that would conflict with earlier versions, along with the traditional power creep. And the metaplot would have given Lorc a massive boner because it was weirdly anti-Catholic. There is a company that owns the rights to it but they are a tiny publisher in Germany so I expect that TORG has gone there to die the death it so badly needed.
all this stuff is true - the bolted-on magic system especially was really terrible and complicated, some of the genres worked better than others, etc.
but it was still a bunch of firsts for me. it was the first time i'd played a multi-genre game, the first game i played that was really narrative-focused, the first time i'd played an RPG with streamlined combat resolution and card mechanics, and the first time i'd played an rpg with evolving world/ plot/ storypoints. it was i think the last tabletop rpg i ever played, and i remember it fondly.

It'll probably get renewed for a new season. It's meant to be a series, not a mini-series.

Upswing of motivation to figure out how the fuck to get a PMP so I can get the hell out of here.
Frustrated looking at some half-formed plans that I have to abandon because no change on job position means I can't. Things like being excited about the shorter commute, eating lunch at home and getting to cook rather than eating out, these things. It fucking sucks.
I guess I'll start looking for more stuff again this week. Everything around me at this office has a filter over it now that makes me just disgusted and also more than a little scared about getting back on the career track before I'm too old to make it happen.
How old are you?
are you calling him a big baby
I was just curious. It's not even a negative thing, or I didn't really have a implication to it. Just idle curiosity. I would have responded earlier but I got pulled into a teleconference with the contract administrator and a contractor. *Jerks hand wildly*

Yeah, I enjoyed the finale and thought it was a relatively satisfying 8 hours of TV, but I'm steering clear of the actual thread because I had mixed feelings about the series on the whole and anything other than wholehearted praise doesn't seem particularly welcome in there.
There are basically two reasons I prefer my Android phone (not tablet) over an iPhone.
The first is a physical keyboard. Not relevant to tablets.
The second is direct filesystem access. If I download a file - say, a PDF - I know exactly where that file is on my device and I can easily attach it to an email or open it up in the app of my choice. Whereas one of the top support questions I get from iOS users is, "I downloaded a file to my phone. Where is it?" Most people have learned the PC-esque filesystem paradigm and moving to the iOS paradigm where files are just a form of app data that may or may not be reusable across other apps feels like a step backwards.
The terminal is almost a third reason, but the functions I most frequently use there (ping, traceroute, telnet) are easily replicated via apps.
However, now that Androids are going away from physical keyboards, that kills one of those reasons dead. More sophisticated apps (eg, Goodreader, which is amazeballs) reduce the importance of the second reason.
I'm probably going to buy an iPhone for my next phone and get a Bluetooth keyboard case for it.
Feral on
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

I would like it if they kept it in the same setting and maybe came at the same problem from a different angle.
5REAL POSSIBLE SPOILERY STUFF
Maybe from the perspective of IA investigating the task force and others for covering up the kidnappings, maybe from a DEA standpoint investigating Reggie LaDoux, maybe a PI doing opposition research trying to dig up dirt on Tuttle and following his family tree -- and just kind of seeing how this huge powerful cult has hands in everything.
but I think they're just going for something completely different.

I'm thankful I never really have a bad reaction to caffeine... Because no matter what's wrong it's my first guess at a solution.
They will probably realize I am not an actual person and escort me off the premises.
