    what the hell.

had less than 5 hours last night

I had 6.5 which is more than enough normally... but instead I feel drained and tired.

    6.5 really isn't enough

Not a flag nerd and definitely not a nationalist, but I still think the USA flag is pretty good. Graphic and easily recognizable, with enough going on for visual interest without being crowded. Of course, I might have felt differently if I had grown up looking at a different one, so all with a grain of salt.

US flag fails first rule of tincture; metal should not be put on metal, nor colour on colour - vexillologised!

Fun fact: The Vatican flag breaks the rules of tincture on purpose, because they only follow the rules of God.

    Glad you asked! :star:

"US" - abbreviation of the United States of America, a republic in north america
"Flag" - a piece of cloth, varying in size, shape, colour, and design, usually attached at one edge to a staff or cord, and used as the symbol of a nation, state, or organization.
"Fails" - to be or become deficient or lacking
"first" - being before all others with respect to time, order, rank, importance
"rule" - a principle or regulation governing procedure
"of" - indicates, component parts, or contents
"tincture" - any of the colours, metals, or furs used for the fields, charge,, of an escutcheon or achievement of arms in heraldry or flags.
"metal" - gold or silver colours, and their forms as yellow or white in flags.
"colour" - the darker heraldic shades, in flags all dark colours.
"Vexillology" - the study of flags.

The positioning of red and blue adjacent to each other on the US flag is generally a poor visual design, most flags separate red and blue with yellow or white to make it more visually distinct at a distance!

objectively the US flag isn't a bad one but i see it so much i get tired of looking at it

can't imagine how it is for people in America or if they're just conditioned not to notice it

one of the things i hate about the world cup is just flags being everywhere all the time

Old american flags were much cooler. Wheels of stars and crap.

reading the Ukraine thread I'm once again surprised by the popularity of Nazi ideology in eastern Europe

and i mean specifically Nazi ideology, the idolisation of Adolf Hitler and other senior Nazis

if they were of a general fascist tint with some of their own countries national traits thrown in there it'd make more sense

but they're idolising a man who considered Slavs and other eastern Europeans to be subhuman scum, real honest to god Nazis would have ethnically cleansed the lot of them from the face of the earth

i don't know what it is about the Nazi ideology that draws in diseased minds and people who have a specific problem with Jews, maybe it's just because it was the most "popular" and "successful" brand of fascism, but a lot of them seem unusually willing to look past the fact they were on the Nazi hitlist too

Nazi seems to have become the label for generic fascist

    and they weren't generic fascists

they had quite a lot of their own bullshit in there too like the Aryan purity angle

on that basis alone I'd honestly estimate that 9/10 people who self identify as Nazis today would have been lined up for the the gas chambers by real Nazis

Southern Neo-Nazis probably would have gotten on well with Hitler. Hitler was a big fan of segregation, and also explicitly planned the Aryan colonization (and elimination of the natives) in Eastern Europe on the model of the United States' Westward expansion and elimination of the native Americans.

Possibly the most exciting. At least for me.

    The place is

    and the actor is
    Paul McGann.

he may have liked their ideas, but he would probably have found their ethnic heritage unsuitable for membership of his thousand year reich

having said that, he supposedly liked the British, which is odd, because as white people go we're about as mongrel as they come, these islands have been invaded and occupied and it's people interbred by so many different invading groups over the last few millennia we cannot at all claim any sort of "ethnic purity" as Nazis would define it

I guess holding Nazis to their own standards is pointless, the ones from the 40’s were as full of shit as the ones today are

Jake that is great. He was brilliant in the ten minute short. There are also rumours of a
    new Master being cast.

The Peter Davison Five(ish) Doctors thingy with him, McCoy and Baker amply demonstrated why none of them are really suitable for reappearances any more, but McGann seems ageless.

Probably that he was created in a lab as a Soviet weapon of last resort to destroy the world in the event of the collapse of socialism to deny the capitalists their ultimate victory

Russian joke, popular among the generation that came of age right when the USSR collapsed, and which rings true to me:

While the British are super mongrels they were all 'good stuff' in Hitler's eyes; Scandinavians, Germans and Celts are all fine.

They made that sort of point because insisting on purity would see about 2/3rds plus of germans being unacceptable as well.
